The peppersalami is mostly used on sandwitches and the like the viltsafari is viltkött=wild game meat, the salami is nötkött=beef and griskött=pork mixed. :)
As someone probably pointed out, Åland isn't their own country, but an autonomous "province" of Finland, even though they speak Swedish, and learning Finnish became optional a few years ago. The reason they are a part of Finland, is that there are some hundreds of small islands between Åland and Finland, and in between of Åland and Sweden there are very few islands. Also, that Genesis-reference though. "They say there's always magic in the air."
Don't worry about the competition between Sweden and Finland. It's a long story and pretty much part of our every day life. We just love to compete against each other in any way possible especially in sports (ice hockey, athletics, you name it).
Here is some info about the products, the meat is from a safari we have, we eat the salami raw :) marabou is a Swedish brand. We have a taffelfactory on Åland and that is the most popular brand of crisps here.
Great vid Barry, I saw you on the Sainsbury's advert the other day and I was like "Barrryyy!" and then my mum walked and and thought I was having a fit.
Okay. This video is quite old now so I don't expect anyone to see this but I'm posting it anyway to clarify some things for you uneducated fools. Åland is an autonomus region of Finland. Taffel is the only snackfactory on Åland. Sips is just the name of the snack. Minipussi is Finnish for mini-bag. Marabou is Swedish, but we get their candy here on Åland as well. Panda is a Finnish snackmanufacturer, they cooperate with Taffel.Pandas mascot is a Panda. Svartbröd is a very dense sourdough bread, great with butter and cheese. Havtornsmarmelad is a marmelade made from a berry called havtorn (or common sea buckthorne in english). The candy from Panda with the angel and the santa are candies made for christmas. Bubblig means bubbly. Dahlmans is a meatcompany on Åland. Medwurst is salami. Pepparmedwurst means pepper-salami. Hope this clears things up a little!
I used to live in Åland; it is a part of Finland but people generally speak Swedish there. That was always very confusing as I'd naturally start talking to people in Finnish and most people would start staring at me blankly.
Could you be able to do a cooking video on chocolate fudge? I'm a new subscriber so I don't know if you already have & I love the enthusiasm in your video!
i absolutely love your sayings Barry, when ever i watch your videos by the end im crying with laughter. this one has got to be my fave " spank my buttock and call me peter pan." where do you get them from ahah!
Barry, watching this and I couldn't help noticing your daughters art on the fridge. That one with the chef hat. 😆 Maybe on the next treats from around the world you could get Mrs Barry and the girls involved (obviously if it's a kid friendly package)!
Pepparmedwurast is Finnish beef and pork, cold smoked and edge seasoned with finely ground black pepper. It is a German sausage. Viltprodukter seems to be reindeer meat, and from the looks of these packages, is curated into a 'Summer sausage' and Bratwurst-style sausages.
I'll admit, I did not know this place existed ! It's only a couple of hundred miles away too ! Wow ! A Swedish speaking Finnish Island ! Every day is a school day !
So I Just watched 5 video's from 2012 and back to 2015 and came to the conclusion you like to break your kitchen and build it back up! Haha Very interesting approach on 'The Virgin Kitchen'.
Haha enkeli is finnish for angel! And minipussi is finnish for minibag or small bag! You should try Fazers chocolate it's finnish and marabou is actually swedish! Here on Aland we have alot of good awardwinning cheese aswell, kind of dissapointed you did'nt get any of that! But you guys should visit the Aland islands in summertime! It's really beautiful here, i promese you would love it!!
I'm half-English born and raised in America and I really like aerated chocolate when I can get ahold of it. My mom doesn't get the point, and my dad and I are just over here like "THE BUBBLES MAKE IT LIGHTER AND SOFTER AND MELTIER. HOW IS THAT NOT AWESOME?"
Because you pay for air as well. Would be cheaper to get chocolate without any air blowing into and not wasting your money for AIR. Hope that clarifies how your mom feels about it.
Marabou is actually a Swedish company, and they've got quite alot of other products aswell :) I sort of want to send some of my favorites, as I can't remember seeing more than one or two of them in the previous scandinavian videos..
I am from Åland Islands. And MiniPussi is Finnish for Mini Bag. And if anybody wonders anything about Åland, Ask me. Any question. By the way, that black bread is from Kökar, that is where my dad's side of my family is from. And Maribou is Swedish, but its also sold on Åland.
Not sure if it's been stated yet, but the name of the first chips you had, the Sips one, it's from a finnish word 'Sipsi' that means chips. Or crisps, like the English say.
I'm new here to this channel. Came for the tasting Finland/Sweden/Aland treats videos (I live in Ostrobothnia, Finland), but will probably stay for the rest of the videos where you taste sweets and stuff from different countries. Didn't the letter come with explanation or translation of the products when you didn't understand the Finnish and Swedish? Not any info of the meat/sausage package either? The Aland dark bread with sea buck-thorn marmalade are tasty indeed. But it's exciting you got Viltsafari meat! :D I've never eaten their products myself (never had the chance), but I'm guessing it's game sausages, smoked deer and/or wild boar meat. That's the info I found on their webpage. Which one is which of the two of the packages you got, I have no idea. Despite I haven't eaten their meat, I've been on the safari train ride twice. It's a nice little trip with close-up meeting of deers and ostriches. The safari shop also sell ostrich eggs, but I assume they couldn't ship it safely to you. Too bad. You look and sound hyper as well - maybe a bit much coffee before you started filming? :P Gonna hop to the next video now.
There is a chocolate bar by Marabou that you can get in the Co-op, wits the best thing ever. There is a dark chocolate one with black cherry jam (not sure what to call it) and there is a milk chocolate one with the same stuff but it is strawberry. they are like full sized chocolate bars like galaxy or something and they taste so frickin good!! recommend them if you see them!x
+AggeBagge Did you forget the war against Russia where you lost 1/3 of your land to Russia? I suppose I would want to forget it too if I was Swedish, as it was very embarassing for you. And considering it was the last war you ever fought, I don't think anyone thinks of Sweden anymore as a mighty empire nor a country of badass viking warriors.
AggeBagge The commanders were Swedish, and the armored cavalry with the best weapons was mostly Swedish. When we fought the Soviet Union by ourselves, we lost a little less.
The marmelade was made with seaberries, aka sea-buckthorn berries. I've always wanted to try some, but I've no idea if there's anywhere here in the States where they grow, nor if they can be cultivated over here. Also, "fraise" (pronounced frez) is French.
Hölläily means "chilling". I'm little bit suprised. Taffel is the biggest snack company in Åland and in Åland they speak Swedish but most of the things you got have Finnish on them. I know they mostly export to FInland, but I still expected them to have Swedish packaging for what they have for their own markets.
All the finns gets triggered asf when Åland finally gets an international shoutout.Really pleased to see Barry get a sample of the blackbread and the sea-buckthorn jelly, as well as the local sausages from Eckerö. The candy was just randomly selected finnish and swedish stuff, but foodwise we have a lot of fresh produce to offer. I´m a big Barry and Ashens fan btw :) When it comes to crisps, myself, just like Barry, prefer salt and vinegar which sadly our own crispfactory cant get their head around producing.
I haven't seen any comment about the meat. I'm from Sweden and I'm guessing that "vilt" means the same in Åland as here. Vilt is "wild" meat roughly translated and is the groupname of all kinds meat that comes from our local wild animals like deers, elk, wildboars and animals like that :)
Any way you could turn on some kind of white balancing? Or turn down the brightness, something feels very odd about the video quality. If you notice for instance it's very hard to read the MVK sign.
I don't know who sent you this stuff, but whoever it was should have sent you only locally produced stuff, no marabou or panda, those are both produced outside Åland Islands! Im suprised they didnt send you anything from our local Beer brewery 'Stallhagen', they make lots of great beers!
Barry Lewis Ostrich burgers are one of the things I look forward to most about going to Download Festival definitely worth a go (doesn't have to be at Download, but you would have a blast there) hmmm maybe some burgers that arent just the usual beef could be a nifty idea for an episode?
i would like to know and ask you guys- what are typical crisps / potato chips in sweden and finnland? since Barry had the usual salt and cheese flavor i wonder if you have weird exotic flavors too. By the way, Barry- i hope you get send lot´s more food since i love watching you try it!
Åland isn't an country. They are a part of Finland but they are pretty autonomous aswell.
I thought the Aland Islands was a Country?!
Barry Lewis The League of Nations granted them their own government and laws, but they are under the sovereignity of Finland.
Barry Lewis It belongs to Finland, but they speak mostly Swedish there and they have their own flag, post marks, etc. 😜
Barry Lewis The Åland Islands are an Autonomous part of Finland.
Its like that greenland is actually a part of denmark...
I know it sounds a bit dirty, but Minnipussi means small bag in finnish xD
Thanks for clearing that up
Barry Lewis Also barry , Åland is not a country , it's an Autonomous part of Finland.
Ford Fan 2904 yep the same way that the faroe islands are to Denmark:)
Minipussi not minni pussi
Noob Gamer
isnt that what i wrote? :P the problem is when you say it it sounds like minni pussi and if you are not finnish it sounds funny^^
The peppersalami is mostly used on sandwitches and the like the viltsafari is viltkött=wild game meat, the salami is nötkött=beef and griskött=pork mixed. :)

Great video Barry! Love these 'round the world treats videos
thanks I have lots of packages to do still :-)
Omg Taffel is like the best thing everr
Just so you know, your enthusiasm over candies made my day.
Enkeli is Finnish and means Angel, so it's not a baby on the package...
And suklaapatukoita means chocolate bars in Finnish... ;-)
wow that's a cool word!
Barry Lewis Yes, it absolutely is! :)
I think, it sounds a bit like some kind of Japanese fighting-move... 😂😂😜
Finnish is such a strange language, all the other scandinavian languages are simulilar, but finnish is way out there :D
Kunno suomalaine
Martin Barkaway Nielsen True, you'd think the Finnish language was made up by a nation of alcoholics, if we didn't know the teetotaling Finns better.

:-)
Ye!!!!
I used to live in Åland; it is a part of Finland but people generally speak Swedish there. That was always very confusing as I'd naturally start talking to people in Finnish and most people would start staring at me blankly.
Yup, I love these videos. You are by far my favorite person to do these "national snack foods taste tests."
Well done for over 150,000 subs Barry :) I'm glad I've been with you from the start
Could you be able to do a cooking video on chocolate fudge? I'm a new subscriber so I don't know if you already have & I love the enthusiasm in your video!
Great call i'll put that down to do soon
Barry Lewis Barry question. Why are you doing an imitation of Walter Brennan when you get excited?
I've been to Åland and it was one of the nicest places I've been to.
Minty Rolos? Sounds like a dream come true! I got to get me some of those :)
I enjoy these treat taste test vids so much :)
You're so entertaining to watch
i absolutely love your sayings Barry, when ever i watch your videos by the end im crying with laughter. this one has got to be my fave " spank my buttock and call me peter pan."

Barry, watching this and I couldn't help noticing your daughters art on the fridge. That one with the chef hat. 😆 Maybe on the next treats from around the world you could get Mrs Barry and the girls involved (obviously if it's a kid friendly package)!
Yes! Those cheap salt n vinegar spirals are my favourite crisps ever too! They're like 25p a packet it's brilliant!
I love the Ashens statuette on the shelf :)
You can get marabou in Ikea, don't know if you get flavoured ones, but you can get the plain chocolate ones and they are SO good.
I love this show! Reminds me of Emmy Eats.
Thanks Tobias I like it when I get sent stuff
These videos are my favourite!
Wow, I took a break from youtube and I really missed your videos! Wow, your channel has grown a lot!! :)
Omg you make me laugh so much you are the best cook on RUclips

Wow you were really hyper on this video lol! But that made it even more fun to watch. :D
The taffel crisps remind me of the main crisps brand in Denmark called Kim's they have the same flavours and names

Åland belongs to finland.
Finland doesnt belong to sweden.
If you think that,
Sweden belongs to trash
+ViltzuGhost Olen samaa mieltä...

Taffel is from the Aland islands. Here we got the "sips" fabric.
9:58 It's French. fraise - strawberry, framboise - raspberry
Åland is part of Finland.. anyways.. I love hearing you read Finnish, makes me laugh like crazy. Too funny!
Aland is actually a part of Finland and all those snacks are actually Finnish, they're produced on Aland however...
+Bowsa92 They are made from deer living in a safaripark on the westernmoast edge of Åland. I shuld know since I work there.
+Jakob Rosenqvist oh that's cool! :D
The sausage u ate from "Käringsunds Viltsafari" is acctually deer meat with wild boar fat, It's my familys company :)
Mint-flavored Rolo...
**proceeds to drool**
Marabu:Sweden
Taffel and panda: Finland
Any way you could turn on some kind of white balancing? Or turn down the brightness, something feels very odd about the video quality. If you notice for instance it's very hard to read the MVK sign.
The bread reminds me of what my dad makes.
I don't know who sent you this stuff, but whoever it was should have sent you only locally produced stuff, no marabou or panda, those are both produced outside Åland Islands! Im suprised they didnt send you anything from our local Beer brewery 'Stallhagen', they make lots of great beers!
They have a "wild game safari" thing in Åland (been there once) and I wouldn't be surprised if one of those mystery meat products contained ostrich
oooh it did taste a bit gamey
Barry Lewis Ostrich burgers are one of the things I look forward to most about going to Download Festival definitely worth a go (doesn't have to be at Download, but you would have a blast there) hmmm maybe some burgers that arent just the usual beef could be a nifty idea for an episode?
Barry Lewis They have ostriches, deer and wild boars there so one of those (or a combination).
i would like to know and ask you guys- what are typical crisps / potato chips in sweden and finnland? since Barry had the usual salt and cheese flavor i wonder if you have weird exotic flavors too.
By the way, Barry- i hope you get send lot´s more food since i love watching you try it!
6:56 😂 when the treats are that good!
* LOL * cooking a sandwich topping... so funny!
You pronounce "Å" ou (not exactly but idk rly how to write) but a and å is huge differences (even in the alpha et a is first and å is third last)
PlaYtime aka NitroN666 in the Danish alphabet å is last
Idunn Gorham Danskjävel xD
Loved the vid barry :-)
