    To be fair I don't even think DFV himself knew the stock would go that high. He got his contacts when the stock was trading below $5. The news about Michael Burry having a stake in it drove it to $10. The redditors putting out DDs of a short position moved it to $40. Chameth and the fomo crowd took it beyond his expectations. It's why DFV didnt sell his options when it was around $300+ per share, he ride it till expiration and even though it came back down some at the time he made off well. Could've been $60M but almost $40M is no joke. Not once did he said anything about a short squeeze or dark pool bs.The reddit community just pulling things out of their ass, DFV at that point was just sitting back to see if the stock can go any higher and if not he already made bank anyway so it didnt matter. I'm willing to bet he knew once it past $40, it was a fomo train and he rode that like a pimp

    • @shawnjavery
      @shawnjavery 9 месяцев назад

      Idk if Fomo train is the word I'd use, this was more of a public movement than that. Mass hysteria? I feel like his position went from relieved to confusion as the stock just kept going up. He def knew enough to get out while he could.

    • @xmixaplix
      @xmixaplix 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@shawnjavery I think the term is pretty accurate. When you have reddit which encompases the majority of retail posting on a near daily basis of "I'll show my tits, tattoo on my ass, etc if the stock price hits x smount" while it's already floating around $100+ a share, you know its susaf and even more ironic is when people clips the big short movie but they forget in the same movie you have strippers buying houses with no collateral and likewise you have self proclaimed strippers on reddit saying they're all 👀😳 now I wont even get into other people's DD because then it's going into 1000% speculation with the dark floats and all but they post it like they're math experts and everyone suddenly became a stock guru overnight. DFV never say a word during these time and its smart, why would you shoot your own foot with such momentum. As a value trader himself I think he knew where the wind was blowing but he just hold onto the end to see what happens.

    An idea.
    Picking stocks has little to do with understanding value and more to do with understanding factors that shift the general consensus.
    People are bad at estimating the future in general, therefore if a price of something which heavily rely on the consensus rather than the fundamentals are likely to have more dramatic shifts in consensus.
    This was partially the case for Gamestop even before the degeneracy occured. The price of the stock was based on a negative outlook rather than the fundamentals if the company which presented a ripe oppotunity to strike.
    Now somethies the consensus won't really change that much, and there is in general no certainty lf anything in the market, but for big oppotunities i would look for strong influence of consensus.
