a true balance between luxury and technology. we should all appreciate the Lincoln division for introducing the newest conveniences and tech that soon became available on all Ford vehicles.

Great upload. I remember knowing a couple of people who owned these. One had a 1988, and the other had a 1995 I believe. Both Continentals were very problematic for their owners as I recall. During that time, I would occasionally rent a brand new Town Car from the local Lincoln dealership. Absolutely LOVELY vehicles. Very reliable and a dream to drive. I’m a diehard Cadillac person myself, but even I have to admit the Town Car beat anything Cadillac made at the time.

Thanks for watching! Yes, Continental was certainly the technology and experimental platform. Town Car was more traditional and consistent with what the driver could expect. Together Lincoln offered a pretty great balance for the personal luxury car segment.

I sold these at a Lincoln dealer in early 2000's. Unfortunately too many problems for too many years. We had 1998 in our family that had tons of repairs needed at under 80K miles. Later, I saw car after car coming in at our dealership with air suspension failure. Town cars conversely were bulletproof and in high demand. 10K off sticker for a 2002 and we still could not move them They were gorgeous inside and had clean lines but failed the buyers in terms of cost of ownership.

thanks for the feedback, very interesting to know. yes these were beautiful to look at and always ahead in technology. unfortunately the Continental suffered so many problems for unsuspecting customers. i appreciate you watching and please view my channel for so much more.

@Greg Bloomfield Well spoken. I drove an 89 Taurus company car. It was an impressive durable machine. I thought it would not hold up but it cruised CA fwys at 100 mph with ease. The small v6 was
well-built and the general workmanship was great for the time. I basically used it much like a police cruiser (hard use) as I was an outside salesman covering 3 states by auto.

I remember being so enamored by the the 4-wheel air ride suspension offered in the late-80’s Continentals, but as I recall one owner’s experience, the issues with the system weren’t confined solely to the hardware, but also the microprocessor which controlled the system. As for the Panther-derived Town Car of this era, they were stunning vehicles. Whisper quiet when driving over the roughest roads, and yes, I remember the rear air suspension having zero issues. As I recall, the Continental also had severe issues with the vacuum luminescent display on the dash, as well as issues with the climate control system. Wonderful technological advancements. Very innovative for the time, but enormously difficult to maintain. Thanks for the upload. The music alone takes me back to a much simpler time in my life when my folks were still alive and I could go home when I needed comfort, food, or money 😂

    Lieber Stefan
    Hans-Peter
