It's always best to instantly tap when you're caught in one of these. I've seen guy's ego's get the better of them and they've ended up not being able to walk properly ever again. There's a reason as to why people won't compete in BJJ tournaments if heel hooks are allowed.

nowadays people like Craig jones say that a proper heelhook attacks both. depending on where u are more flexible it will break
