Multiple Use at Work: Placer Mining and Stream Reclamation in the Fortymile

Placer mining is an important industry in the state, providing 1,200 seasonal jobs and $40 million in labor income. Healthy streams support a large and high value sector of the state economy, basic private sector economy, as well as fishing-based outfitter and guide tourism employment.
There are approximately 120 permitted placer mine operations on BLM-managed lands in Alaska, clustered primarily along several road-accessible mining districts.
