22 Hard Things In 2022 | HOW I MADE MY LIST

  • When I was making my list of 22 Hard Things in 2022, to combat depression and feel better both physically and mentally, there were several things I wanted to consider. I wanted to set myself up for success and give myself opportunities to DO things instead of focusing on the effects of doing the things. With so much out of our control, it made a lot more sense to me to do things that would help lead me to the life I wanted. That means some old goals were off the table.

I literally kept pausing this, taking notes! It's been an honour following your IG. Your explanation of how you made your list is so so helpful! I'm looking forward to making my own for next year. Honestly, thank you so much! Biggest takeaway, my list should encourage not create pressure. 🥰

Thank you for posting again. When I found you about a month ago, I made a list of 5 daily things to do…simple things like get outside everyday, wash up and change clothes…I’ve been adding to that list and changing up the daily goals. I’m now going to the gym and working out 5 days a week. I was able to apply to jobs and landed one…and I actually feel strong enough mentally and physically to go back to work…Katie, your life is creating ripples. I’ve been contemplating what things I might put on my 23 hard things in 2023 list…and for the first time in a couple months, I have hope again and am looking forward to the future.

I love that distinction- focus on what you can do (what's actually in our control), not on the outcomes (often out of our control)

Watching this was so weird, because I think we're living the same life, but I'm a year behind. From our ages to weight loss/gain stories to struggles with depression and crawling out, it was like watching a video of what could be me at the end of next year. Thank you so much for sharing your story! Now I'm off to start my list 😁

And in the finding of yourself, you helped and inspired so many others. An unexpected side effect of your public declarations. First, I am proud of you. So proud and inspired. What you have done is amazing and for many so attainable. You showed us how to break down these hard things in to smaller bits to get through. You understand that getting through the fire of depression is a personal and solitary experience. My own list of 'hard things' has 13 items so far. Many include going through the mounds of stuff left by my husband after his death - paper, items, clothes. Keep going Katie. You've shown us all a path we didn't know existed.

You came up in my IG feed one day a few months ago. I normally don't look at suggested accounts, but your smile was the first thing I noticed and it was so warm and genuine. I've really enjoyed following you these past few months. Congratulations on all you have achieved and all you have worked for. I look forward to seeing 2023 in action!

I started following you on TikTok a few weeks ago. Your story is similar to mine but I am steps behind about goal setting. Which is a goal for 2023! What I loved best was "Your list should encourage you, push you, grow you..." Wise words to goal-set by! Thank you!

Hi Katie, so good to see you again🥰 I've already said, multiple times, that you're such an inspiration for me, and I think that the fact that I found your instagram account some months ago wasn't a coincidence.
I struggle with anxiety and pretty bad fear of failure, and that's why I've always been a perfectionst and usually also a people-pleaser; at the end of the last year I wasn't feeling good, many self-destroying thoughts and very little hope in a better future, even if I was accepted in the med school of my dreams, just a couple weeks before. As you said, despite all the good things I had in my life, I couldn't really see them, cause I wasn't feeling good with myself...
but at the beginning of 2022 I decided I didn't deserve any of the bad things I said to myself, and that in order to be a better person, I needed to start showing me, the exact same love and respect I've always shown to others. It wasn't simple, but I did it and guess what? I did pretty scaring things, definitely hard things, this year, that 2021-me couldn't have done! So yeah, I definitely can understand what you say, and I can't wait to see what we both can do in the future!!😍
