I haven't seen the 992s but I do own two of the 990s. One in black and one in blue. Very supportive and comfortable. I also think the Metatarsal support sole you have the option to add has value too. I have them in mine. The standard Ortholites are good too. Good review.
Not a question about the difference between the two sneakers but about the grey vs navy 990v5. I originally wanted to get the grey but got the navy instead because it seemed like the grey would get dirty faster but now I am kind of regretting not getting the grey first. Not that I am regretting the navy. Does the grey get visibly dirty faster than the navy?
I’m sure they do. My old gray ones looked dirty after a few months of wearing them and I cleaned them up but couldn’t quite get the original color back. Will apply a protectant/waterproofing spray on my next gray ones.
I love both, but I think V3 is the one that hits the sweetspot between comfort and looks.
But it doesn’t come in Narrow width.

992's are the ones. They discontinued them in 2010 though. I think New Balance will bring them back soon.
