That thing sounds amazing. Swapping out the frets like it was easy. Respect!
Thank you Dan🙏🏻✌🏻
When the saw came out I got nervous!
Matt makes it look easy! I wouldn’t want to try it - especially on something as old and lovely as that Esquire!
The sound is so good.
Sound Great. It's also how you play It. Your touch it's smooth and nervous at same time. i I like it. Seems like you play in a different way as the guitar ask to play, I suppose.
Damn you're brave to refret this old lady by yourself ! I would have been so scared ^^'
It's a boy. Guitars arent girls
I just want to say I love you Matthew. Your videos are so laid back yet so well put together, they give me a vibe that no other RUclipsr has. Also I've been really addicted to your song "mirrors". Please don't stop making music, you truly are a gift.
Miles, that means so much thank you. 🙏🏻✌🏻
i can say the same about Matthew!! his videos gives me a vibe that no other channel has
im 15 years old, im learning by myself how to play this syle of music....im a huge fan from Brazil!!
I am impressed with your skill level both playing and managing this classic piece of American Art and history. Thank you for the videos!
You should let stumac know what you are up to. This could be one of their promos. They'd probably shoot you free tools.
Ah I wish😫 that would be so cool, I've already spent so much there🤣
With all your knowledge of, set ups, re frets, neck setting and guitar maintenance, have your ever thought about building your own Guitar? It would be my ultimate goal to build my own Guitar.
@@MatthewScottmusic If they don't go to LMI instead. They will!
I'm always amazed by how much effort is there in these videos. Top tier stuff as always!
Believe me it took many hours🤣
Videos like this... really encapsulates what I love about this channel. It's about playing guitar, but also about working on the guitar, which is a big part of the fun with these instruments.
Was literally just looking to see if you posted anything new yesterday and then low and behold you bust out this video moments ago.. Your talent amazes me man, very inspiring. No favorite as they all sound sweet to my ears!
The refretting sequence is top notch. Well done.
Fabulous sounding!!!!! Great job
That sir was awesome. You are one seriously talented player. With great taste in guitars to match
That Bridge tone is all you need. Outstanding video as always. Thanks for showing the refret!
One of the best sounding teles i ever heard. I want one now!
I love that guitar and your playing is the balls.
What a nice guitar! Great to see people like you keeping these old guitars alive.
I've wondered why people can't mod the too-dark sound on that switch position, and it turns out they can. And it sounds great. I also love that super-bright bridge position sound. Slices your head off, but in a good way!
Absolutely! Very nice! Thanks for sharing.
Everything about your content is pure class
Love the warmth of tone you’re getting
10:35 what a lick!
btw the fretwork is so satisfying to watch
I really appreciate your taking us thru the refret process. What a guitar, sounds great.
The Dark Circuit sounds great! Can you please post the stats on the components used for it? Also a diagram for the wiring?
Another great video! You breathe new life into these vintage instruments! Thanks for sharing!
Esquires are underrated!
Esquires are the best
No truss rod?
@@lllULTIMATEMASTERlll There's a truss rod. It was installed into the maple neck prior to the rosewood fretboard being glued on. Hence, no skunk stripe on the back of the neck or telltale walnut plug above the nut. Important to note there were variations over the years, but for the vast, vast majority of pre-CBS Fenders with rosewood fretboards, that's how it was done.
I love my tele bridge pup through the Marshall 800. My favorite addiction.
@@anthonyc1883 Oh thanks for letting me know. I was under the impression that all Esquires lacked a truss rod. This is good news and makes me like the Esquire more!
Dude, you just bring vintage Guitars back to life. Cool videos as always, brother!
Awesome restoration of an awesome sounding guitar! I was very impressed with your careful and skillful workmanship throughout the process. Very nice work!
Esquires are like Leslie West's unknown Mountain JAM
Brilliant video, brilliant playing and sound!! enjoyable watch
Thanks for uploading Matthew, you’re my favorite channel on RUclips 👍
Ridiculously cool guitar! Here is a tip you could try for removing frets sideways. Take a dremel tool with a small engraving bit and cut a tiny notch down into the fret near the end. This gives you a tiny ledge for your punch to "grip" or bite onto while knocking the fret out. Much less chance of your punch sliding off the top of the fret and puncturing the board.
I always light up when I see a new Matthew Scott video. Keep it up, man! Thanks for the awesome content!
The bridge straight out sounded a lot like Brian May’s Red Special. Listen to Queen’s It’s Late from News of the World. What do you guys think?
Was thinking the same thing.
Not really.
Very nice fret work! Love the look and sound of the esq. Great playing too!
Great video and playing! just curious, why do you apply solder to the old frets rather than just touching the soldering iron to them?
yeah i wondered that
That has got to be my fav guitar yet you have had on here..
Man, that work on the dark circuit was incredible! It just sounds amazing.
What capacitors did you use?
This guitar deserved to have such a good player ! Hope you’ll make more videos with it and have fun as well thats what it’s all about !
I've been wanting a Esquire for a long time. Thinking about the Brad Paisley Esquire or modding a Fender.
@Boris Johnson lol
@Boris Johnson well said Boris
@Boris Johnson wise words haha
Do it. An esquire is different than a tele. You'd have to modify a Telecaster to get these sounds.
All Esquires to me have a hybrid hot Tele / LP Special /SG vibe to me. Had I closed my eyes during the dark circuit runs, I probably would have not been able to tell if you were playing an SG, a P90 Gibson or a Firebird. Amazing for a one pickup guitar! And so durable! Leo was truly a genius.
Once again a great video! Thanks for letting us be a part of this journey!
Sounds amazing. Especially on the clean tones
Yes! I’m early to a Matthew Scott video!
And??
Nothing like great frets on a fantastic old instrument to bring it up to speed. Well done!
Great Video, Guitar, and Craftsmen... Rock-On !
good job . Rock on , Keep the music alive .
Amazing job! A dream guitar for sure
What a great old guitar, good job with the frets.
Nice to see you working on this sweet Esquire. You play it like it's been with you for years. Strong work, Matthew.
😁👍 Time for me to search for a video of Fender side installing frets. Great job, have fun with this one.
You did a great job with this one. More tones than I thought possible with one pickup.
Loved the video! Great sound and always fun to watch.
Looks and sounds amazing!
That dark circuit sounds so good, amazing guitar and great work you did on those frets!
Great Respect on the fret work Matt!
I'm a drummer, but a drummer who LOVES guitar tone and also goofs with guitar on the side. GREAT sound!
Sounds fantastic, interesting stuff watching the re fret and stuff
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤘🏻🎸🎸🎸🎸
That is a very cool guitar! Good to see you doing stuff like re-fretting as well, instead of giving it to your service dude to do.
You have come a long way on the road to guitar repair, doing amazing work there Matt, thanks for the video.
Great....great ......work!!!!!-----love this.
Great playing and the patience and skill it had to take to replace the frets all respect cheers
Another awesome build and repair Matt! WTG
Love the dark circuit!
This being the best video to show how to do a fret job.
Great work! Sounds better now than it did in 1959.
Thanks Matt. ⚓️
What a beautiful guitar. I wish you could interview the person that played that guitar so hard for all those years.
lovely job on the frets
Gorgeous sound.
Very satisfying!!
Seriously sick guitar and tone from a single bridge pickup. Nice work Matt. Great playing and tone as always.
Great skills, both on the guitar...and repair bench. Respect.
badass! thanks for the cool instructional on the frets
brilliant to be a repair guy and a great player… wish i was both .. more repair here 😀
That fretboard is JUICY.
Great video as usual. Great sounding guitar and great playing. I love the sound of a Tele!
Peace ✌
One off your best videos dude brilliant
I love your videos! Thank you so much
Brother, I think and I'm sure all your other viewers will agree, you play like an 80 year old blues man. All the vintage equipment you have proves that. You are awesome. I'm new to the channel and I won't be going anywhere.
I am 14 years old and look up to you and your playing I love it man keep it up.
Thanks man keep playing! 🎸✌🏻
@@MatthewScottmusic 👍✌️
Well done Matt. Sounds great.....
Wow, you're a brave man to refret that. Props to you though, looks like it came out great! Sounds even better. 😎
Love to see these old guitars getting the care and attention they deserve. Sounds awesome!
The rosewood PLUS white scratch guard on a butterscotch '59 Esquire; that does seem quite rare. I haven't been able to find an image of another one like it yet.
That Guitar is mint man👍🏻👍🏻 Thanks once again 👍🏻👍🏻
Sounded awesome, great fret job.
Amazing restoration work man, you can make some magical sounds come out of those amplifiers
Love it Matt. This may be my favorite guitar you've shown us!
I agree, this guitar has the classic fender sounds, nice fret job. I used to buy/sell guitars in the flea mkts in the Sacto valley for yrs 1992-2015
Sounds awesome!!!
Absolutely brilliant!
That is THE TONE I’m chasing on one of my Esquires!
that's one of the sweetest tele/esquire tone I have heard...
Love this tone... the real wear and look only add to the vibe and overall package!
So gorgeous to hear her all spiffied up!!♡♧♡
You are great man!!! Very talent. Congrats!!!
A few thoughts: StewMac sells a fret saw with an adjustable depth stop, eliminates the need for the glue/dust filling after the frets are in. I cut a 1/2" piece of fretwire, file the nubs off one side of the tang and lay it against the sawblade to set the depth stop. Practice on a piece of hardwood first to make sure it's set correctly.
My '59 Tele has a top-loader bridge and factory ferrules on the back (!) One time I strung it up using the top-loader and played it that way for 2 minutes before I cut the strings off and loaded it from the back. The tone was horribly different. I wouldn't advise drilling holes in your guitar, but if it was mine I wouldn't hesitate for a second if I was sure it would be my 'forever' guitar.
When I got mine in '82 somebody had routed the body for a Tele bridge pickup in the neck position but removed it and put the original back in. I've often wondered what it sounded like. I've never seen it done before or since.
Great save!!
Sounds amazing. Would love one of these earlier Esquires.
Nice to see the refret!
Great job man another great guitar lives
I didn’t think I could get more exited than I already was when clicking this video, then you started to play a segment from Communication breakdown!
Sounds killer and great work on her!
