5:40-6:08 Mario's a generic character, free of (almost) all gimmicks (such as a sword, shine, tipper), furthermore, his combos are very versatile, whilst not invalidating their target's stock (such as Ken Combo, Shine Infinites, Rest Combos), and all of his recovery options are useful, yet simplistic (no stage-grappling, teleport stalling, shine-stalling, etc.) Everything Mario has is effective, yet predictable; Aside from Cape-Gimmicks you will seldom get surprised by Mario's moveset, within a few minutes of gameplay you will have the same fundamental knowledge of Mario as your opponent, creating a sense of transparency that other characters lack (YL, for example has secret gimmicks like Air Glide-Toss, Fox and Falco have Shine-Cancel technicalities, etc.)
Mario requires the usage of almost all of his tools (of which are all rather basic), and thus cannot be deemed "cheap" like other characters whom's viability depends on spamming one or two moves (many Smash 4 characters suffer from this, as well as a few Melee ones).
The most balanced matchup in the game isn't simply a ditto, it's-a _Mario ditto._
How do you feel about Ultimate, since characters spamming their 3 good moves is the meta?

First off peach’s common neutral tools are down tilt, float cancel nair, float cancel back air, float cancel dair, float cancel up air, and turnip.
Her advantage tools are fair, Down air, side b, and float cancel nair and back air, and up air.
That’s a lot more than 3 and for just one character
Pikachus common neutral tools are: fair, back air, t jolt, up b, nair, up tilt, f tilt, down tilt, and up air.
Pikas advantage is based mostly off: fair off stage, thunder, t jolt, back air off stage, up tilt, nair and up b.
Pt’s common neutral tools: Squirtle: Nair, fair, down tilt, back air, down air
Ivysaur: fair, back air, side b, nair, f tilt, up air,
Charizard: fair, neutral b, nair, back air, down tilt
Advantage tools
Squirtle: neutral b, fair, bair, nair up tilt, and up b
Ivysaur: up air, dair, fair, bair, up b, side b, down tilt,
Charizard: side b, upsmash, up air, bair, fair, up b, neural b, nair

After the other commentator made a point about how "any lowtier is honest" HMW seemed to regret his statement, and it's not like HMW had all day to make a sophisticated argument about which characters is the most honest. He kinda rambled on a bit too long when he tried to make a point about Mario not being cheesey, and he seemed to realized his statement didn't have much merit to begin with, which is probably why he said "i dont wanna look like an idiot on stream" and continued talking about the match. I can see why Fendy tried to change the subject, and it was more of a slip on HMW's part

You can't have commentators that agree all the time. His rebuttal is what's needed when it comes to two commentators.
HMW was right. Other low tiers aren't honest because they tend to rely on the *very* few good attributes they have. Zelda wins by Bair/Fairing you. Roy wins using his Dtilt combo starter. Mewtwo wins with Nair spam and DJC Fair. To contrast, all of Mario's moves are fairly good. He wins by outplaying the other player in all the categories.
Only Mang0 can blow a 3 stock Mario lead.

I THINK it powershielded from behind him??? That's why it looked all wonky.
the laser isn't one big hitbox, but actually a series of smaller hitboxes. The ledgedash gave Axe invincibility for the first few hitboxes, and he immediately powershielded. The powershield reflected one of the last hitboxes from the laser. The reversal animation begins wherever the first hitbox in the chain is located, so the laser spun around from the tip. It's especially weird to watch it in slow motion
Axe won in our hearts for that 3 stock comeback.

Feels kinda odd that Mango's Yoshi Story pick ends up backfiring far more often against Axe as of late, yet ironically, Axe's Fountain counterpick bites him in the ass in the other side.

Brendan Keim the only way I could see any depth to the "honesty of mario" statement was if he mentioned how mario's range and speed compared to all other characters is so bad so he actually needs to suberbly outplay the other player to stand a chance. Even then I wouldn't use the term "honest" so much as I would say he just has a very shitty neutral

Cape isn't much cheese compared to every other character's gimmik. Hell it's not even guaranteed with edge guarding since it covers a weird diagonal hitbox while Doc's covers a whole tower of a hitbox.

There are very VERY few occasions I root against him and thats only when its someone like amsa who deserves to win a major finally or some other underdog.
