Printing ink would be better. Something it takes a few prints to get a good one as the lino has a slight coating on it. A roller to apply the ink and a clean roller or brayer to push on the back of the stamp to make a clear print. I believe printing ink has a longer drying time than acrylic.

So I kind of did a similar project in one of my art classes in high school and also made mine Beetlejuice! We used a linoleum block and used it at a stamp and we stamped into in between taking the different layers away. It was a really cool project and honestly want to do it again! I like the idea of this style as well using the linoleum block!

  • @Lure-Light
    @Lure-Light 7 дней назад +3

iv done linolium befor and for maximal printing you have to sand the stamp lightly so the ink can stick! Also warmed linoleum carvs easyer then room temp, even keeping it under a hot water bottle for a little as you go can help so the big tools can actually be used becus otherwise yeah there way too hard to use.

Sarah you did a terrific job. I was a middle school Art teacher for 39 years. I think you would love to create the same image using a copper tooling foil and a black India ink wash and wipe off over the raised image. The ink will make it look vintage and help to show the picture. You can find the foil at a teacher supply store. You can use a pencil or ball point pen to trace your paper image onto the foil and then go over lines with your pen and work from both sides of the foil and work on a newspaper to make images deeper in the foil. We backed the final product on a piece of poster board. keep up the great work and fun videos and have a great week. Cheryl

Your videos make me feel that Halloween is supposed to be spooky special. Thanks Sarah 👻. Sadly, it feels so different this year . My house is the only one in our block that is decorated for this boo-tiful season 🎃. I am starting to miss the Happy part of Halloween 😢

This came out SO GOOD!! I vote for framing just to give it a little more protection for all the work that went into it. And I would totally buy one! I think it would be cool to even try a reproduction of one of the vintage ones with a classic Halloween motif 🎃

After thinking about it, I wonder if you carved out one in reverse (the lines, instead of around the lines), and pressed them together, if that would make these faster to mass produce? probably using a weighted press, similar to what they used for newspaper printing back in the day? Not that you need to produce more of these! But you could! I think that I would have gone with lime-green instead of orange, so maybe have one in that colour? maybe even one in purple?

  • @heydianawillett

So cool! I would definitely try block printing ink for the stamp, but the method of putting the paper on the stamp is correct thats what we did in school and pressed the paper into the stamp with a spoon. we applied the ink to the stamp with a roller to make it even. you could also use the stamp to make shirts if you use the right kind of ink/fabric paint! i think speedball was the brand of ink we used in school but i think blick has its own branded block print ink.
Thats such a cool design though! I'd love to see more art projects like this!

OMG Sarah I have to say YES about Betteljuice. The intro would have been amazing. WHERE was Ms. Argentina? Also agree, way too many plot lines. It was like it was just a bunch of cameo's... I was disappointed. It was an ADD fever dream. Why didn't they ask us? @Midgemunster had an amazing plot line idea that I would have loved to see. Anyway, back to your video... I'm only 14:22 min in

@@LexW5 That's really sad that she is no longer with us. Bringing back such an iconic character would have been really cool. It would have been so fitting to open the movie up with Bettle juice still sitting in the waiting room 30 years later.

Oh it turned out so good! It’s been a looooong time since my high school art class but I remember using ink-like paint for Lino transfer prints. Something more watery than acrylic should “stamp” better

Aaa it looks so dang cool!! You went in HARD with this one. 😤 This linocut is huge, especially for a first attempt at puzzling out a process. It looks super promising, but I hope you refine it with smaller carvings before you attempt it again!
P.s. That linocut you have should transfer print just fine with a brayer & ink - the tooth of your paper could be affecting how much ink you’re picking up too.

  • @TerryFedora

I think that this came out very nice! It had a classic Halloween vibe that I appreciate as someone who prefers more vintage aesthetics. I like that it is unique and I enjoyed watching your process in making it. I hope you make more in the future because this is delightful. I personally would probably want to get one, but I would put mine in a frame for fear of it being too fragile.
Also, sorry people talked the entire movie, that is annoying and you're right, it makes no sense that people would pay upwards of $40 for an experience and then talk through the whole thing.

I ended up seeing Beetlejuice opening night and the behavior of people wasn't really any better. Teenagers were throwing popcorn, several people making comments out loud while the movie was playing (which is fine if it's occasional but in this case it was not), and the theater was trashed! It's crazy how people behave these days. Hope you had a good time regardless. I LOVE how the diecut came out!

I think the Mickey Mouse pumpkin hat is cute! I know what you mean, that you are disappointed with how it feels, but it looks cute! Also, the one thing we learned in art class was to not carve linoleum towards your fingers, it's like playing Russian Roulette, watching you carve towards your opposing hand. ahhhh

We don’t usually have too much problems with people talking but one awhile back, there was a group of 6 sitting not to far away, talking thru the whole thing. They all had gotten food, drinks, candy. I can’t imagine the amount of money spent just to not watch the movie LoL
I liked beetlejuice but also felt there was too many plots going on. Overall kinda felt a little disappointed.

If it makes you feel better the "stamp" wasn't the issue at all, it was the paint! If you want to make a nice print get yourself some printing ink: it's pretty inexpensive and it coats the block more evenly without drying out as fast as acrylic paint

  • @shananigans0117

I feel like a lot of people have forgotten how to behave in public since Covid, like, you aren't streaming a movie in your living room, you're sharing a public space.
Your criticisms of the movie were spot on. The ex-wife added nothing and that was a disappointment. I agree that a lot of fan ideas are greater than hollywood these days. The problem is that often it's too many cooks in the kitchen and these studios start the process with "we own this IP that made money in the past, how can we milk it for all it's worth?" instead of risking their funds on new ideas. So originality gets pushed out the window.
    Your art came out beautifully!

okay your comment about people speaking at the movies is so REALLL!! i went at the latest viewing starting at 10:30PM!!! and there was a huge family WITH BABIES!! LIKE INFANTS!! CRYING IN THE THEATRE!! I was losing my mind because we paid extra for the dolby theater and had the movie ruined by BABIES at a PG-13 VIEWING!

That's just crazy! I feel like I'll just wait a month or two to see the movie at home when we have an infant. & I remember people bringing like 3 year olds to a late viewing of the Avengers Endgame moving. And in the middle of the sad ending they started leaving and the little kids very cutely were singing "donuts donuts donuts" which really ruined the moment in a funny way haha

You’ll need block printing ink it dries slower and I would suggest rubbing the paper with a wood spoon. You could maybe get away with stamping ink but that also dries fast so only really works with smaller stamps.
I enjoyed the movie, would watch again, but totally agree with the critiques way to much going on.
