I thought it was Tyler’s video lol
Not a BMW
Ha ha
Ha, same
I was hoping so. I'm not a huge fan of Ed.
@@dashcamcalifornia5003 wash your mouth our, sir
As they say... if you can't afford a new AMG, you can't afford a used one.
This is probably most true with the S, SL, CL, and early E versions, but the SLK55, C43/55, and C63 (post-2012) appear to be pretty reliable!
VersanGetryx are you only saying that because you own one?
@@slideways8022 I've had 3 C63s, but look them up. No air suspension like many of the others, C55 is supposed to be even more reliable. They are the most "simple" as far as systems go versus the others.
But ironically, this is exactly the type of cars poor people buy, at least where I'm from. The expenses then help to keep them poor, and so on
Thats utter nonsense. I own a 2006 s55 and its been nothing but good to me. Like any car though, you buy a junker you buy a junker. You buy a good car you get a good car. How people think AMG are unreliable goes to show how many people don't know how to inspect a car.
12 PAGES OF WARRANTY WORK!!!!
The funny thing is. the vast majority of that list can be easily fixed by anyone in their own driveway with a few basic tools. 12k repair bill turns into something like 1.2k in parts and a weekend project. I'll take the car... lol
Thank you very much
THAT!!! I️ just fixed my transmission shifter cable in my driveway 😂
1500k labor turned into just a 30 dollar part
Watching a 10 minute ad on ceramic coating
Ed some how just got me to watch a 10 minute ad for Avalon King. Lol he’s too good.
My 2002 S55 has 255k miles and runs great and has none of these issues. ABC works great and no leaks. Change fluids often on these cars.
Do you still have it? What maintenance did you do during your ownership?
The S55 lives to die another day.
Is it bad to say I’d unload 5k for the functional stuff and not care if I had heat 😅and ignore all the cosmetics
I know you're aware, but if you do the work yourself then these things are piece of cake (other than ABC suspension). Among the easiest German cars to work on. Not very expensive for parts. My Lexus is more in parts cost.
Kill it soon...post the pics lol
MrCarGuy20
What the fuck kind of cake have you been eating.
Why did you mention not being able to enter Canada with such a stink? Are you offended by the fact the border is closed?
I put 10k miles on my S55 in the last 11 months since I’ve owned it. If it wasn’t for the 3.5 months I wasn’t working, I’d have put closer to 14k on it! Totally reliable and a joy to drive!
Until the Boingo Boingo Sensor goes... and the Locusts come to claim the end of the world.
@@SlidTossedPissed and when that day comes.... Coilovers
Jarrett Beier we put coilovers on ours with 180,000 miles and it’s a great car
Come when your at 100k please
Now I want to know what all the warranty work was on the GL63
Yes.
+Ed Bolian
It'd be great to have Ed's wife here to tell that (and other) stories
He figured out a way to get a brand new engine, transmission and anything related to “drive train”. I’m hoping
MB tech chiming in. I would put money on Cylinder heads. The M157 engine has history for valve guides wearing, AMG most of the time wants both replaced.
Hey man! After you destroy it, can you sell me the Diff? My S55 has one that’s bad and I can’t find a used one!
take a look on german ebay
Shipping a diff international is ridiculous LoL
If I was gonna do that, I’d just source a new one, as you can tell from this video I’m doing the stupid thing by trying to keep a 2006 AMG alive, but I’m also trying not to spend a small fortune lol
@@TraxxofAOT that's not stupid. It's awesome considering in 10 yrs there's going to be nothing but 1.3L hybrid Toyota Carollas on the road with top speeds of 40mph
Well I appreciate that, It is a M113K so it is the supercharged version, but this one mixed with my SLK 55, it’s gonna put me in the poorhouse LOL I’ve had this S 55 for no more then a month and already a catastrophic failure. My E 55 was never this bad so I assumed the S 55 wasn’t going to be that bad either
If you really hate someone, just gift them a cheap german car with over 100k miles 😂😂😂
Joe Alex My 300k mile TurboDiesel begs to differ
nicholas b That’s the entire reason I bought a MK2 lol. I paid $800 running for it so I’m seeing low long I can ride this motor out
I have a 2000 e46 manual welded diff who wants a word. Its has 255k lol and i beat the shit out of her hehehehehe
I guess that's why my dad got me a 1990 vw corrado g60.
I replaced SOOOOOOO many parts of that car, I should have been legally able to retitle the damn thing as a 2012-2013.
At least the top-of-the-line version for sure.
The base versions of Mercedes and BMW are more reliable, and cheaper to maintain, if you do your own work
You should bring it to Oz Ranch in Texas and do a collab with Demolition Ranch on the tank range.
Ceramics are considered crystalline to amorphous solid. I have always wanted an explanation how these liquid coatings should be considered a ceramic. Could you have the vendor come on and give a scientific explanation? Since one of my degrees is in material Science this has been a curiosity. Thanks Ed, big fan of Vin Wiki.
*cough* Marketing. There's your "science". You're welcome.
Unfortunately Avalon king is one of the lower end coatings compared to many of the other diy coatings.
These coatings are made from silicon dioxide aka quartz which is generally thought of as a "ceramic". I believe they then transform the solid SiO2 into a liquid with various solvents and when it dries it leaves a thin layer of the silicon dioxide behind. This makes makes for a super hydrophobic coating that repels dirt & water etc. This stuff was cutting edge material science about 15-20 years ago when I was in school.
Finally Ed is back waiting for too long
What would Alex from LegitStreetCars say about this estimate!?!?
Yeah, my wife and I are in desperate need of a 2nd car and I would have to pass on that AMG regardless of our desperation lol. Can't wait to see it flying off a cliff somewhere lol.
I would actually really recommend a 5th gen Honda Accord Wagon if you can find one. Bulletproof, and really spacious. And if you need a manual, doing a manual swap isn't that hard (mainly because it's a Honda and Honda's from that time period are literally legos)
If you want a car solely for moving A to B in a reasonable manner, decide on the type of vehicle (sedan/wagon/SUV) and get a Honda (or Toyota) and you'll never regret.
Go watch the Car Wizard's video from yesterday about cars under $2500

I'm so happy for new Ed videos
I just made an offer on a 2007 S550. However, after being reminded of how expensive it can be to maintain an aging Mercedes-Benz, I will abandon my original plan to purchase a 13 year old vehicle.
I love your channel and look forward to every video you post. You usually educate me while you're entertaining me. Today, perhaps you saved me a lot of money and headaches.
Thank you.
Did Ed take a breath in this video? Sounded like an auctioneer.
Man i really appreciate this Channel , so many great story’s , you just never can get enough of it . Really thankful for that
Repair bill levels
1) 60$ oil change
2)300$ Tire change
4)3000$ transmission maintenance
5) Ed Bolian
What happened to level 3
@@Qi4 china stole it.
You lucky to fix that trans for 3k
@@Qi4 level 3 is the friends we made along the way
Much rather pay $3,000 for tranny service on an amg model than the $3,000 I would've had to pay for another (bad from factory) vsa modulator on a 2010 TSX I got rid of. Difference is, nothing else besides the vsa would probably ever fail on the tsx. Would still rather have the amg.
"We topped off the coolant (obviously we used water that's what we do around here)"
Lmaooo
Why do people see 12k for such an amazing machine too expensive?
Finally ed bolian is back.
All are good until the real negotiater comes back.
Ed I missed you so much 😀😀
Do check out my channel you might like it
Honestly that would make a good hobby car. The parts arent too bad, its the labor on everything
I have a 2003 e55 and it's been great because it's had one previous owner and has been well taken care of
Same here with my Cls55, very reliable cars. Are s55’s that drastically different that other 55’s?
@@insayn7995 Yeah. M113 = Bad, M113K = most reliable performance engine
An 11:17 commercial. Well played shrewd negotiator.
Lol. Giving an old AMG car to someone who was having trouble affording a beater car would be evilllll. End up abandoned in some parking lot
I actually have pictures... of THAT ERA car ^^^ sitting abandoned... in a lot. Airbags completely boinged. Car resembled a wet bag of farts.
An s55??? If so, where?
I'm sure he won't see this but I did use Avalon King to coat my E60 M Sport after seeing it on this channel and it looks amazing and after several months of daily driving and sitting in the weather it's still very water repellent and looks like the day I coated with only a wash. It's well worth the money in my opinion.
Did a double take when I saw the channel wasn't Hoovies
I love listening to Ed Talk...
He is a Incredible Speaker.
All the love for this channel
Work with a guy who thought he beat the system buying an 07 S-550. Got it for a good price but it has 225k on the clock. It looked amazing. Whoever had it obviously loved it. But in the two years he’s had it, it’s cost at least $1200/mo to keep alive
"Absolutely positively will be destroyed" Gotta have goals.
always a good day when vinwiki drops a new video
I don't think I could destroy a car I'd lived with for even a short amount of time. I'd get too attached and feel terrible about it 😔
The winner needs to live near Legit Street Cars garage and all will be fine.
The very least you can do for that poor s55 is save the monoblock wheels that are on it.
Ed you are the epitome of the type of car buyer I want to be. Getting the prices you want, being super knowledgeable about the cars you buy, and taking all the bad transactions in stride. I can not wait until I start making more money so I too can own and enjoy cars I find appealing and doing business without getting taken to the cleaners. Hats off to you my man.
I have an 02 s55 and its a great project car, super easy to work on. Its a million times less expensive to work on yourself than to pay a shop. Ive done the ABC delete, swapped power steering pumps/lines, sway bar install, etc.
Cameron Huber did the same in our 03
is it? might buy a 03 with 67k miles today, gotta ABC delete is that easy
@@chickentava yes. I did it in a few hours with 0 experience
Jus bought a 02 need to see how to do that delete too
Could drive the car through a sandstorm
Sandstorm should be the new testing standard for all the coating people.
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dundun dun dundundun dun dun dun dun dun dun dundun ...
Budget Rental definitely agrees that sandstorms are not good for paint.
That car wouldnt make it through a bucket of farts.
You had me at "Launching cars off of a cliff". Please follow through.
There is seasonal ferry from Bellingham, WA to Alaska thru September.
My friend moved to Alaska on that ferry a year later he moved back to the lower 48 by the same ferry.
@@copwcuffs5415 lmao
Ed’s the type of guy to print out text messages just to read them 😂 all love though, keep it up
at least save those AMG wheels from the scrapheap
Good to see Ed in front of the camera again
Sounds like my daily driver. We live like that everyday. Can't repair our Uplander, but luckily it keeps going
You could have driven through Canada to Alaska. Many have during this crisis. But we Canadians are appreciative that you did not and took the situation seriously.
Yep, lots of transit permits are granted. The rules are that you don't "stop and mingle". Consider your passage as a self-quarantine. But I am uncertain if you have to have an Alaskan residence to be allowed through. Did you consider a boat?
Ed, I’ve heard that ceramic coating will blacken/restore the faded plastics on cars, such as the cladding or fender flares on late 90s, early 00’s Jeeps....and I’m sure dozens of other cars. Perhaps that’s a test for the Avalon King product. Get some 2 pieces of cladding, coat them, and set one in the Georgia sun and rain and one in the garage and compare them after a few months.
Ed, as long as you are travelling to Alaska, you can drive through BC as long as you don't stop in BC except for gas. Not sure about the other provinces.
Is the avalon kings ceramic coating supposed to take the place of a wax? Can I clay bar, then use the ceramic instead of wax?
Went to the museum. Loved it.
what museum is it that he's refering to?
Finallyyyy eds back
The "death" of every older, yet 'cool' car - the prices for parts-and-labor to get maintenance 'caught-up' for such machines far exceeds the book-value of the car. Euro Luxe-Barges are notorious for being cheap to buy, expensive to address the mountain of deferred maintenance on them. Porsches and Ferraris are no-different. A $30K Ferrari 308 can EASILY generate $60,000 in maintenance bills with a decent mechanic. NO JOKE.
Damn I live in Alaska that's probably the only way I'll ever meet Ed, shit that would be the coolest frekin day ever! Ed's a damn legend and I've never met anyone that famous! Look forward to hopefully seeing the man out there one year!
howdy from Alaska guys 😀
Bring ur GlassParency!!!!
Even in August in Alaska it gets surprisingly cold at night, you're 100% going to want heat and probably coolant to be safe
This would actually be a very cool concept to use for a future cartrek ngl, find three cheap but still drivable cars to make it to Alaska and drive off a cliff lmao
Ed’s preparing his next car for cannonball 😂
These 5.4 Supercharged engines fetch a really good price on the swap market (a good enough condition one can go for north of 8k. These engine takes boost really damn well, are reliable, and can push 4 digit power figures with very little work needed on the bottom end. Even if it's not in good condition parting it out is still much better than shooting it off a cliff since many owners of these unreliable cars (i have a E55 so that's why) can definitely benefit from these parts.
In other words: Shoot a PT cruiser down a cliff in stead.
3:59 car trek season 2 confirmed
We already knew this but good catch
@Clif Bradley I got bored with the "what would you buy" episodes real quick, so I pretty much only seen the first 2
Hoovies Garage : Oo sorry wrong channel, Right content!
All AMGs of this vintage can't all be this bad.
It sounds like it was neglected and beat on.
The drive up the ALCAN highway will provide a true torture test for the ceramic coating and you could add the Denali highway in the mix if you really hate the car.
Send that over to me in India Ed. My vw polo fights through dust all over, acid rain, mad roads that lead to daily paint chips and scorching 48 degree heat all summer long.
I have the same exact car in my driveway catastrophic coolant leak melted aluminum engine I've been looking for that exact same car also need front bumper and back bumper if there's any way I can get ahold of that car I'm in California🙏2002 s55 AMG I always work on this car myself and yes you are right that if you were to just give this car to somebody that does not know anything about it they would be stuck with a massive repair bill for any little thing even just putting brakes on it with all that said I leave this message with an old saying a closed mouth does not get fed may God bless you all help us get through this pandemic and may God keep you all safe🙏
Ed...go to Bellingham, get on the Alaska Ferry. You can get there- mom's family is generations deep in Alaska makes it easier to "Get around" and find things up there
There was a TV show a while back called Truck night in America where they put peoples 4x4 trucks through a very cool off road course its some place near you so that might be a good choice for it if you can find the area it wad filmed and would be fun to watch
What's the saying "The most expensive car is a cheap Mercedes"?
Just take a screwdriver to the paint and when it still scratches, call it a day. If you’re set on launching it Vulcan has a few quarry’s around Georgia and a pretty large one by Cobb county airport in kennesaw.
Glad mines not as bad as yours... Love mine.
make sure you announce when you bring it to alaska, i'm local here and would love to show up.
Also, WOW, does the coating also work for headlights? Does avalon offer a headlights only kit?
2021, can't wait.
Send the car down to North East Texas, the spring storms are brutal, it hails most springs
A good alternative to throwing off a cliff might be to chain it to a beach while the tide comes in.
Might not be as spectacular, but it'd definitely put the ceramic coating to the test.
✋🙋♂️ just found your channel amazing by the way. While i was looking for info on s55's. As i want one, if by chance you are goimg to destroy that car i will take it and bring it back to making it a daily driver. I would hate for that car to be destroyed. So if your getting rid of and have no use for it id gladly take it off your hands. Thanks. Im in California
What musuem is that that you showed? The one with your cars in it. It looks similar to one I went to in St Louis.
VinWiki x Demolition Ranch crossover when?
But the radio volume control kicks. Let's go.😁
I totally feel you on how unreliable these cars are. I have a s500 that I’ve been trying to figure out what’s wrong for over a year now. 💀
Your battery is shorting out how many times
MB technician here, recently did an inspection on an S55 and quoted over $14k in work.
JUST GONNA SEND IT!!!!
destroying cars while screaming "murica, fuck yeah" and shooting fireworks was never Canada's specialty, you guys have Alabama for that
@ed bolian, have you tried asking a drifting shop what it'd cost them to put coilovers and LS swap and new ECU on it?
The truth is W220s are probably the easiest German cars to work on. That's assuming it isn't a model with ABC.
Just like lego, prob the easiest car I've worked on in any of my ownerships of cars.
I stopped listening when I heard "Cartrek 2" and now have to wait for the good stuff!
Growing up my parents were always leasing bmws. This was because of their amazing warranty and repair policy on leased vehicles.
I thought you were allowed to drive to Alaska from lower 48 so long as you are transiting through Canada directly without diversions.
Ed Bolian should find a trackday NA volvo 240 and throw that on 24h of lemons with his fellow show people as drivers, with the avalon kings coating. If it isn't badly scuffed after 24h on a rubbish track, then its kinda excellent.
We have a dirt runway that abruptly ends at the tail end of the Grand Canyon . Its about as tall as the one in Alaska . Id love to send my bike off it.
Ed,
Use it on a OTR truck..not a day cab but an over the road truck. I guarantee anything that survives 1 month on a truck will last 6 mos to a year on a car.
Hey Ed, any chance of getting VINwiki in Australia soon?
Check out knob Creek machine gun shoot. Don't know if they still do it but they used to put cars out to shoot at/blow up
I am from the future. Sad to report that 2021 isn't any better.
If I can afford shipping can I at least please save the alloy wheels as very desirable here in the UK, otherwise I think the off a cliff AMG is definitely the best use for the rest of the car. Keep up the great work guys
This is the first time I’ve seen Ed starring into the camera... WOW
Great! Now they will all say to give it away and add $12G to fix it.
