Wisconsin Football Brutal Schedule! Hard to See Improvement in 2024

  • Wisconsin football may be better in year two for head coach Luke Fickell but improvement may be hard to see if they do not win more than 7 games following a 7-6 season in 2023. Their schedule is brutal. And, here is the kicker; They do not have to play Michigan or Ohio State and things are still going to be tough. That is life in the newly expanded Big Ten for the upcoming college football season. Instead of the Wolverines and the Buckeyes, Wisconsin will face Penn State, USC and Oregon.
    CANNOT MISS ON QB AGAIN
A lot of success for Wisconsin football in 2024 will come down to quarterback play. Tyler Van Dyke comes to Madison via Miami and he will be ready to sling the ball all over Camp Randall. But, based on his track record in South Beach, he is very inconsistent. He can light up a defense with multiple touchdown passes or he can throw the game away with multiple interceptions.
Luke Fickell needs to hit with this transfer QB because last year Tanner Mordecai was a swing and a miss.
HOW MANY WINS ON THIS SCHEDULE?
We will do a game by game deep dive into the Badger football schedule and see how many wins we think they can earn.

Catch Alabama at the Camp early in the season for the upset maybe, surprise USC fans in the Coliseum early in the season hopefully, then win at least one out of Oregon, Penn State and Iowa. Like said, tough schedule.

Anytime someone says Tanner Mordecai was inconsistent, I feel I have to mention that he was playing with a center who was really a guard, who couldn't snap the ball. Also, the WRs couldn't get any separation, and (fact-check me on this) led the B1G in drops. Some of the blame is on Mordecai, but he also won games for us without help from them. TVD is going to benefit from a better receiver room; a more athletic defense should get off the field more, so it really is all on him. Recruiting is really heating up, and I think the Badgers improve radically in Fickell's 3rd year.

Wisconsin does not have a better receiving room than Miami last year. They are returning the highest production of any duo in the entire country. Miami receivers were 2 and 3 in yds leaders in the entire Acc. Our third wr had 500 yds. Wisconsin WRs will not save TVD, it’s all in between his ears.

I don’t know. Alabama, Oregon and Penn State will be challenging but Oregon is the only one I don’t see Wisconsin having a shot at. They get Alabama early enough that the new coaching staff might not have things figured out. They could do all of College football a favor by planting doubt in DeBoer’s mind. Penn State has recently been good but they have never been great under Franklin. USC will find out early and often that playing defense is important in the Big 10. And Wisconsin gets two weeks between Bama and USC. They can calm down and refocus whether they win or lose against Alabama. Most of the rest of the games are wins or coin tosses.

I actually think their season will be similar to last year but it’ll be due to TVD not always being great. I think Wisconsin fans will look back on the schedule and think it wasn’t as hard as they assumed it would be and lament the missed opportunities.

USC went 7-5 with the number one pick at QB. Nebraska will be starting a true freshman at QB after having a 5-7 season. Rutgers will be staring Athan Kaliamanis at QB next year. If you look at PSU there best win last year was Iowa. I don’t we are going to beat them but you have to think that in Bama’s first year after 17 seasons of Nick Saban there are going to struggle at least out of the gates and Wisconsin is also there first test for the new coaching staff who are definitely a very good staff but it’s there first year with the players.

The goal should be is to beat the teams we should beat. 6-6 is realistic and anything better is great gravy. Uw losing to Rutgers? I don't agree with that. Also the Badger defense small silver lining is scoring defense. I don't know where Shemon is getting his stats saying we were good against the run. His details for the team last year is inaccurate. Tannor was running for his life, poor center play and WR room (other than Pauling) was weak. Overall yes the team would be better and record could be worse. Time will tell.

    @davidp6839 Месяц назад +1

LOL, dude has them losing every game against a halfway decent team. The line is understandable given the unknowns for the uninitieated, but you're not considering unknowns at all the other places. What has Iowa done to improve their offense? oh yeah, new coordinator...same players. Neb is relying on a freshman QB, at least as many questions there as for the badgers. QB questions all over the league, at least we know Locke is decent (played admirably as a freshman when thrust into action) and should be improved from year 1 to year 2.
    Most reasonable is:
Likely losses O, Bama, Lose 2
Slight edge to PSU/USC (PSU at the camp at night, and many questions for USC as well). Lose 1.
    IA/Neb... Lose 1
Maybe drop another one that they should probably win. Course could also win another instead..not crazy to have them beating IA and Neb.
So 7-5. I'd say given what we know, 8-4 more likely than 6-6, assuming folks stay healthy. Center, RBs, OL and WRs will almost certainly be better this year. Defense should be improved as well as they've overhauled. I have them hitting 8.
Ah the offseason...we'll know soon enough!
