Some of you big 10 fans have the comp right in front of your face and you simply are not paying attention. The Nfl's Baltimore Ravens are widely considered to have one of the best defensive schemes in the business as they don't usually have alot of stars on their roster yet still produces the top defenses year in and year out. Lets go back to 2020, the Michigan Wolverinnes were ranked the 84th defense in the country, and then big brother John Harbaugh(Baltimore Ravens head coach) helped his little brother Jim Harbaugh by giving him Mike Mcdonald who then was a linebacker coach from that Baltimore Ravens defensive coaching tree. They went from 84th to the 8th ranked defense in the country in 1 year. Mike Mcdonald left after year 1 to go back to Baltimore as the defensive coordinator, and he was replaced with Jesse Minter, also from that same Baltimore coaching tree as he coached defensive backs for the Ravens for 4 years. Well Jesse Minter left and went with Jim to the Chargers this year and Michigan replaced him with yet another Baltimore Ravens defensive coach in Wink Martindale. Well lets see, D'anton lynn (USC 1st year Defensive coordinator) in year 1 took UCLA from #89 to 10th in total defense in 1 freaking year. Guess where D'anton Lynn coached safeties before he went to UCLA?? You guessed it, the Baltimore ravens. See where I'm going with this. You take Lincoln's offense with a significantly better defense and you have to draw conclusions because MIchigan has never had a offense like USC!! There is a reason USC fans are at least optimistic because we do have talent on the defensive side of the ball but Grinch's system was so bad it would have made Michigan's defense look bad too last year.
I love how the cheerleaders for the BG10 always push the great defense narrative. I mean, how hard is it to play great defense in a league known for average offenses and average QB play?

They also have a rich alumni base, and once everyone starts paying for talent like that school in Columbus with a stadium shaped like a toilet, they will. Not this year though.
Hi Craig! I think for the most part you were fair about the Trojans. OL is young but will play good. Defense will play better, the question is how much better? If Coach Henny can get the DL playing physical and flying around, then it will be a great season. I see Penn St being only loss for SC at home. Lastly, I believe the mid and lower tier teams in BG10 will be on their heels against the offenses that the former Pac-12 teams will bring. Trojan fan here! ✌️

Their linebacking corp is the question. Their DLINE though needs depth but the ats only on experience. They do have the body and an absolute lethal pass rush. Their offense is out of this world.

The strength and conditioning program during the offseason seems to have worked, the players are bigger all the way around. The new defensive staff on paper is top notch, but it’s new, and it usually takes a season to get a team use to the new system, but there should be a noticeable improvement on the defense. The offense will put up points. 9-3 is most likely but 10-2 is a possibility. If they go 8-4 but the losses are by single digits and the defense shows progress, Riley will be ok going into 25. If they go 6-6 or 7-6, which is very unlikely, and if they would have those records, that means the changes didn’t work and then Riley is on the hot seat in 25, and would likely be replaced at the end of the 25 season. And remember folks, people forget Los Angeles is actually in a desert, and playing at the Coliseum in September and October is the equivalent of playing in the Midwest in November and December. It is baking on the field (100+). The 1998 USC Purdue game in late September, it was a 110 on the Field, and the Purdue players and fans were miserable.

USC is soft. D hasnt been good since Porter Gustin. O has had moments. Line play is sloppy, although in fairness, Caleb sure hot dogged it back there the last 2 years. Doubt the Trojans will look better against better teams.
