🔶 ABOUT ME 🔶
I am an ex-motor dealer and motoring journalist. For many years I ran a classic and sports car showrooms and auction house, selling modern, classic, vintage and veteran vehicle of every type imaginable. You name it, I have probably driven and written about it.
My lifelong passion for motor cars has never waned, so even after leaving the trade and a few years later finding myself divorced, rather poor, and living a quiet life in an old cottage in the beautiful Peak District the desire to play with multiple cars remained, although the budget to do so was minimal. Hence the £500 concept came into being, born entirely of financial constraint!
I’m not entirely sure what I’ve set out to do, but the aim seems to have become to buy hopefully interesting sub-£500 cars when funds allow, and with zero mechanical skill or inclination and virtually no budget keep them on the road. Taxed, insured, MOT’d, and most of all, enjoyed.
The channel also seems to be evolving into something of a personal vlog, as I believe they’re termed by the youth. I very much enjoy sharing other passions and aspects of my life, so I do hope you’ll forgive and perhaps even enjoy some of my exploits in the kitchen, wine-fuelled musings and rants, quiet times home at Windy Bum, road trips and adventures.

Brilliant video Boats, I caught the train to Derby and back from there in the summer just for the train journey 👍 me and my son loved it. I didn't know the oasis link until then when someone was there taking photos and explained. I am an oasis fan and what a tune that is!
It is a gorgeous line. It’s a shame you didn’t do the whole bit, when I was living in Matlock Bath and we got the train to Derby from Cromford we always got there a bit early and hopped on when it was going the other way to get the Matlock Bath and Matlock section as well. We never got charged for it. It is mostly tunnel through the cliffs though. The section from Cromford to Ambergate is gorgeous, I’ve walked all of that. It’s worth taking the heritage deviation to Wirksworth too for the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and Steeple Grange Light Railway too. Plus of course there’s Peak Rail covering the Matlock to Rowsley stretch, and then the amazing Monsal Trail which I’ve walked many times…
@@Mr_Boaty I did think about staying on on the way back to go to Matlock but I hadn't paid for the journey so I was worried about getting in trouble! Do love a train journey though whether it's a heritage stream train or a regular train. Especially love underground trains and trams! I've been to Crich tramway place too. I'm a total nerd to be honest 😂 hopefully there's more instalments of Boatys stations!
Oh God yeah! There are the rest of the Derwent Line to start with, then the Hope Valley Line starting with Grindleford. I need to get my bum on the old Woodhead line, you know how obsessed I have become with Broadbottom Viaduct of course, and that’s all without the need to travel! I’m aching to do the Cambrian line and the North Wales coast. Then next spring I can get stuck in to the funiculars and trams…😉
Another enjoyable video like to see these were you are getting out and about and it's like we are with you.
That was sort of my idea I guess, that I take you along with me. And rather than it just be you watching me doing something, I give you my view so it’s like we”re experiencing it together. I’m really glad you’re enjoying them, and I’m really grateful for the feedback and support! 😊
Superb 👍
Thank you so much! 😊
Top notch Boaty.
Thank you! I am quite chuffed with this one if I’m honest…😊
I grew up in Matlock and, as a teenager, in Lea, so Cromford was my local train station. I was a big Oasis fan at uni so you can imagine my surprise when I found out about my little station being used for probably my favourite Oasis song's cover.
I only found out recently! My ex and I moved to Matlock Bath, but the Cromford side, opposite Masson Mill. So Cromford was ‘our’ station, which we used as she didn’t drive so used the train if she needed to get somewhere when I couldn’t take her. I fell in love with it, posted some pics on Facebook, and somebody told me about the cover. So when I started this RUclips thing, five years later I did some research and made this…
Great video boaty, beautiful place. Great photo's, great editing 👍
Aw, thank you! 😊
I was so pleased with the way the edit came together. It was all a bit fiddly and time consuming, but I think it was worth it. I absolutely love the play out…😊
@@Mr_Boaty definitely worth it
Interesting story ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👍👍👍
It is isn’t it? Kind of the last thing you’d expect of a quaint Victorian station on a rural branch line…
Very interesting, enjoyed that
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it…😊
Amazing how someone ( oasis ) popular with the younger generation can flare up interest in history with a simple song cover. would get the kids interested in history at school lol
Yup, it’s a great idea to try and engage kids using current culture. When I was at school the German teacher got us interested in the language by playing the original German version of 99 Red Balloons, which was a hit at the time. I still know the lyrics!
Thank you all,and GOOD NIGHT 😂👀👍🇬🇧!!! Rockin out with the Boatman 😀🛥️🛳️🚤🛶⛵⛴️🚢🇬🇧👍! Lol.
Pretty good play out wasn’t it? I was still rocking round the kitchen to it at 2am! 😉
I absolutely did not know anything about the link between the station and oasis but there you go I do now thanks to you Mr Boaty, by the way won't the music get a copyright strike? 🤔
No, I used it with permission. It’s all good! 😊
@@Mr_Boaty I was wondering if you had got permission because other channels always mention copyright strikes with background music that may be audible, anyway, another great video👍🏻
@@g.uu. thank you…😊
