Truly wonderful images, Andy! Really impressed by your professionalism and the composition, lighting and quality of the images. It's also a perfect demonstration of why professionals do not need to carry bazookas and FF camera systems anymore!
You certainly showed the full potential of the OM-1. Your photographs (I hate the term "captures") are so satisfying to look at. I've watched so many vids from experts whose photographs really aren't that good. Just because a picture is esxposed properly and is in focus does not make it a good photograph. All but one of yours (the lone lioness with a turd on the ground to her left) were museum quality. I'm now a new subscriber!
Hello Andy, thank you for your great video. I love your pics and vids you showed us in this vid. Great quality and lovely pics, I am impressed. I wish I could make some pictures like yours in the future as I am just starting now with wildlife fotography. Please keep going, I love watching your vids. Greetings from Germany Michael🤩
Guten tag Micheal. I am sure that you can and will. Just shoot in your own way and in what you believe. And I'm going nowhere, which of course my critics will hate!
this is the first of your talks i have seen and i shall be watching a lot more in the coming weeks. i only got my OM1 last week having been using Canon for over 50 years I am still at the being overwhelmed stage. Thanks for my first insight on what can be done by a photographer and not being talked down to.
Wonderful images ! Great info. First time watching one of your videos - excellent. Since I'm in the process of selling off half of my Sony kit to get the OM-1 and a few lenses (sadly not the 150-400) I've subscribed.
I would love to have a go with the OM1. Been using the Lumix G9 for many years and what loses me the most images would be the autofocus *hands down!* That Crab image is ASTOUNDING!
Holy Crap! Those photos are freeking gorgeous. My OM-1 mark ii arrived yesterday. This isn't my first foray into MFT's but this time I am committed to figuring it out and making it work. I only just found your channel Andy, and I am very glad I did. This is golden. This video is the last push I needed to get an OM-1. I've been on the fence all the time because of the FF talk and the so called worse performance of a smaller sensor. Your images are stunning, and they truly motivate me to get out making pictures and spending time in nature. As for lenses. What is your primary lens? I can imagine either the 150-400 mm F/4.5 or the 300 mm F/4? Thanks for this video.
I am shooting wildlife with the Eos R6 paired with the RF 800mm F11 .. the OM system looks so promising... planning on snatching an OM camera with the 100-400 😏
I love all your images and the simple straight forward no nonsense way you describe everyone. I’m new to Olympus from Canon FF and really scared of all the noise. I use Topaz but an in depth tutorial on how to reduce noise in LR and PS from high ISO images would be great.
For me the noise is less than I experienced with other models. I simply reduce using Photoshop enhance and it’s great then. Nothing more complex than that as the file is pretty noise free provided it’s exposed correctly. Just try it and you will see. I do one to one sessions too which might be of interest if you check the linktree in the description below
Gr8 video. Photos r superb and am about to get me OM1. I wish the photos had exif data to know what lenses were used. Can you please clarify? Subscribed and look forward to watching more
Hi Andy, great video as always. Can you clarify one thing for me, please? You speak of using Pro-Cap with tracking, is that the normal CAF+TR as opposed to CAF with subject detect? Thanks
Apologies for the idiot replying he has been blocked. Yes that is right it works so well if the setup js right. Checkout the description as there is my linktree in there as I have an OM-1 course that details this.
Fabulous photos and advice! Thank you. When you say pole, do you mean monopod or tripod or some other device for shooting off the side of a boat, for example, or from a vehicle. Can you describe the process?
I use a monopod for that nothing more complex than that, with a trigger cable. It's very 1970's but it's reliable and it works. Best to stay old school and basic I find
Thanks, Andy. I'm going to give that a try. I'm often in a kayak and have a low view, but always want to be even lower. :-) I might just need to use my lcd more! I forget about it often. But now with bird detection, it's really possible, as you point out, to get the eye in focus without worry or fuss.
@@Wildmanrouse Andy, you might want to give the RM-WR1 Wireless Release a try. I bought one and simply love it since it works with the built in wifi, and you can still use it with a cable with other OM/Olympus cameras. I haven't had a single problem with mine -- it has a 15 ft. range.
I'm curious now that the G9 ii is being released, have you tried one out, and how does it compare? With your experience using the OM-1, I hoped you might have some insights.
Great stuff Andy I really like the OM-1 and also have Nikon Z8, But the only thing that bugs me is the 20mpix for birds you can never get to close and buy the time you crop the image the way you want your pixels are for facebook posts only I believe.
Not my experience at all. I hardly crop my images as I get close enough for my photos. Also the images take interpolation very well. Just my view of course as a pro everyone is different.
@@HotGates We can all be selective in how we compare. The pros still rely on the DSLRs and they use Nikon D4 (16MP), D5 (20.8MP) or the Canon EOS 1DXiii (20.1MP).
What is the system like for noise levels when using high ISO and having to crop like we often have to do for wildlife? What other would system would it be comparable to in this respect?
It’s not just ISO number. It’s how much camera sensor will have to compensate between 6400 iso and given lighting conditions. If you shoot dark football field on Friday night with 1/1000 SS with 6400 or 8000 iso you’ll see the camera struggles. If you expose your image to bright sky while shooting BIF, you’ll find unrecoverable shadows at iso 800!! Take it easy with your excitement. The camera is good but people should know it’s limitations..
I saw your reply under someone else’s comment, and you said you were aiming to get the Sony 70-200, 300/2.8 & 200-600. I have the 200-600, and it’s fair for me to say that it has & continues to exceed my original expectations when I bought it. However, I have been contemplating getting the 300/2.8 recently. Seeing your comment that you were planning to get the 200-600 & the 300/2.8, I was wondering what your thoughts on these two specifically were and why you were looking to get both. Is it just so you are covered for those low light situations, or is it the shallow DoF & the subject isolating bokeh it brings? Just wondering what your thought process was, maybe, because I’m struggling to justify having both these lenses myself and wondering if I’ve overlooked something.
Thanks for replying. I know have all the me lenses I need and the 200-600 exceeds my expectations everyday. My friend has the 300 2.8 and loves it, he is a pro too. In fact he was shooting alongside me in India last week, I am still here now. I've had the 600 f4 as well and have been loving that but it's a big beast. Not heavy to hand hold just big in the confined space of a jeep. One of my clients here has the 400 f2.8 and has loved using that. So that's an interesting choice of next lens I have to consider and I will.
Now to the second but as I couldn't read it when answering the 1st paragraph. I think that the lenses compliment each other and have different uses. I love f2.8 and am addicted to the effect. So that will justify it for me I think but the 400 2.8 is interesting too especially as the 1.4 is so sharp.
@@Wildmanrouse I did hear a rumour that they might be redesigning the 400/2.8 next. Don’t know how try that is though. I’m only a ‘hobby’ shooter, but the 400/2.8 has always seemed the optimum choice in many ways to me….longest focal length at 2.8, you can put a 1.4x on and effectively have a 600/4 option, negating the need for the 600/4. You can put a 2x on and have 800/5.6, and you probably don’t need to go much longer than that, especially with cropping and the negative effects of shooting through more atmosphere at ever more distance subjects. The 400/2.8 also pairs well with a 70-200/2.8 too, if you need something between the 200 & 400, you could always put the 1.4x on the 70-200. However, there are two, possibly three areas where the 400/2.8 is not optimal. A) its cost, b) its size, c) its weight……the 300/2.8 address those, mostly.
You are aware that the ND function is not a real filter? It takes multiple pictures, like 4x1/8 to simulate a 1/2 exposure. That's why you got the effect on the flamingo picture. Very clever though, not sure why they all don't do this, it's not rocket science, though you need a very fast sensor read-out.
I am aware yea but it's not something I need to say. It's the results that count bf for me as a photographer not how it works. I care not as long as it does!!!!
As a nature/wildlife photographer I've been quite disappointed in the OM-1, and would not recommend it. I mostly use my EM1.2 still. I hope my comments aren't deleted because I'm not a cheerleader. I'm just a photographer who doesn't have a relationship with any company (nor do I want one).
