It was another peaceful morning. I found out Riki's weight at the Ueno Zoo and compared it with Kintaro's. Riki is one year older than Kintaro. At nap time, Momotaro and Kintaro were napping together near the sub ground. Genki was also by their side.

Father MOMOTARO ♂(2000/7/3)
He is hesitant in new situations and is a loner.
His father died before he was born, and he had never spent time with a silverback.
He had already turned into a silverback by the time he was 10 years old.
He is struggling with unfamiliar child-rearing.
MOMOTARO's father is BIJU.
MOMOTARO's mother is MOMOKO
Mother GENKI ♀ (1986/6/24)
She is 14 years older than Momotaro and has a role to support the whole family mentally.
She has had a tumultuous and eventful life.
She has returned to her birthplace, Kyoto City Zoo.
She had never been blessed with a baby but after meeting Momotaro,
she had two sons.
She is a very maternal female gorilla.
GENKI's father is MAKK.
GENKI's mother is HIROMI.
First son GENTARO, male (2011/12/21)
He was separated from his mother Genki soon after he was born.
Genki's milk production was not very good.
He was raised by his keeper for his first10 months.
Because of this, he is very fond of humans.
His face is so expressive, and everyone enjoys watching him.
Second son KINTARO ♂ (2018/12/19)
He is just very strong-willed and independent.
He has big eyes and long eyebrows.
The way he plays a lot with his brother Gentaro makes everyone smile.
We can't wait to see what kind of gorilla he'll become!

Riki is a big boy for sure. Humans grow at different rates, too. Gentaro always seemed on the smaller side, but then exploded and bulked up these past couple of years. I expect the same trajectory for Kintaro. Healthy gorillas are most important. Luckily, via videos, we get to watch Gentaro, Kiyomasa, Riki and Kintaro become mature silverbacks, whatever their size.
It's cute how Kintaro has his favorite ball, just like human children have a favorite toy. Even when the toys get all worn out, they still love them best!

Wow ,kintaro is a very special kid ,his intelligence is out of this world ,the way kintaro always makes sure that he is being filmed ,when he sees the camera he extends his cute and adorable acting,remember he does hold the record with being the fastes with the video counting game ,yes he can bug bug bug his mom ,I believe that this wonderful family is very special ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇯🇵🇺🇸🇯🇵🇺🇸🇯🇵🇺🇸🇯🇵❤️🇯🇵❤️

Kintaro may be a small silverback, but then again, he could fool everyone. Genki is mid-average. Rikki and his siblings are big and tall. I will always call Kintaro my baby even if he’s short, average or tall. ❤❤😊
Kintaro is PERFECT! He may be a little smaller because his mom Genki is a petite gorilla. Also he may very well grow into a huge gorilla. He has plenty of time for that! When I see Ricki I confuse him with an adult sometimes !! But he’s still very much a baby too.

I think visitors don’t refer to Riki as a baby gorilla because Sumomo, his little sister is the baby of Haoko’s troop. Kinny is the baby of his troop. I didn’t realise Riki was already so big! He will probably be as big as his dad.

I feel sad for Kintaro now that Gentaro doesn't play with him as much as he used to. He needs the stimulation, being as young as he is. His father isn't the playful type of father either. This is why I feel sad for my favourite Gorilla of them all. I've watched him grow from being a baby & this time now isn't great for him.
You can tell Genki knows shes loved by her zoo keeper and that Kintaro loves his father

From a human perspective, one of my grandsons was born prematurely (3 months early). He weighed 1 lb, 12 oz, He was small as an infant, toddler, and young child. When he got to be a teenager, he started to “catch up”. He will be 21 in December and, to look at him today, no one would ever know that he was premature.
Kintaro may end up catching up in size to Riki as he gets older, or he may not. For most primates, it’s all about genetics!

All the members from the Haoko troop are big when compared to some from another troops. Sumomo is only 2 but she looks older due to her size.😊

I feel like it has a lot to do with Momoko. Momotaro matured quickly and all the kids in Haoko’s family are bigger than Shabani’s kids. That’s what makes me think it’s her since Shabani and Haoko have the same mother and father

Riki look so big at current age though.
Kintaro could end up being a pygmy gorilla. Smaller than average. First gentaro was smaller than momotaro at the same age. Now kintaro is smaller than gentaro was at the same age. So they seem to keep getting smaller.
Theres nothing wrong with kintaro. Hes just a smaller gorilla. They vary just like people do. Not all silverbacks are over 400lbs lol. Some are smaller, some are huge.
My brother is 6’1”. Up until the time he was 13, he was smaller than average. He grew 8” the Summer he was 13! Give Kintaro a chance to grow. He will be fine.
Wow, my Kintaro was only 45 lbs not that long ago. He's becoming a big boy. Riki is very big for his age, but then Haoko is a big silverback. Nice seeing my favorite troop again. Love you Momotaro troop.

Someone else commented on one of your previous videos about how big Riki’s feet are. I’m glad i’m not the only one who has spotted this. Riki’s giant feet are a fascination. He looks like he has fancy dress costume monster feet on. Thank you GL for the detail on the weight of the gorillas.
Yes, that’s one of the first things I noticed about Riki was the size his feet! I remember thinking is it just the angles on the video and then rewinding to double check 😂 His feet are huge.

Well, I hope and pray Riki and Kintaro get to grow up and be full mature Silverbacks and not be castrated like they are doing to the poor blackbacks in Europe.Poor Shufai, he comes from such strong genes,having a huge dad with the biggest head like Ouimbe has. He would have been magnificent.😢 And then Mosi, with those extra long arms,he would have been one unique silver...I guess we will never know😢

Momoko es una hembra bastante grande y a eso hay que sumarle que haoko es enorme, Riki sin duda será un buen sucesor del gorila más grande de Japón actualmente.
Al parecer Riki por como se esta desarrollando, se podría convertir en silverback a los 10 años.
Kintaro es de más bajo peso, por que es muy selectivo con la comida, lo que más le gusta son la golosinas de hielo.😂😂

Gentaro con la edad que tiene que intaro ahora era bastante más grandote que Kintaro, pero lo importante es que estén sanos aunque si es verdad que agentaron se le ve muy grandote y a Kintaro se le ve todavía muy pequeño, ❤

I think gorilla's just age differently. A year ago Kiyomasa was larger than Gentaro, and then Gentaro hit a growth spurt and he looks like a full Silverback now while Kiyo still looks like a black back. They hit growth spurts and then slow down.

I never thought there was such a difference in weight, for one thing Kintaro is a little muscle house. He has been climbing, swinging and hanging since he was a year old. His arms, legs are nothing but muscle . He is super strong I am sure. When Gentaro was 3 he wasn't as muscular as Kintaro as they just got that equipment then or shortly after.

I wonder why Momotaro doesnt play with Kintaro as much as he did with Gentaro. They wrestled and played tag all the time. Gentaro would iniate play the same way as Kintaro did with Gentaro.

GENKI is his mom he just didn't nurse right away so zookeepers took care of him for several months and then he was returned to his family
No Gentaro was born in the Kyoto Zoo. Genki did not have enough milk so he was hand raised until he was 10 months old.
Gentaro is Genkis. Gentaro belongs to the Chimo zoo because they are the original owner of Momotaro and the deal was they get the firstborn of Momotaro .
@@JETSETJP If I might add, Gentaro tried to nurse but Genki did not produce enough milk. After 3 days, the keepers noticed something wrong. At that point, Gentaro was near death. It was then that they removed him, and he was placed in an incubator for a time.

I'm not surprised, The diet of the Momotaro family is deplorable. They eat mainly grass, which has very little nutritional value.
I have to disagree. In the wild they would mostly be eating plants,bark, leaves, grasses, berries, insects, maybe some fruit etc. They would not have access to carrots, tomatoes, eggplants, lettuce etc. I think the Shabani troop needs more greens. The Cleveland Zoo also provides mostly greens for their gorillas and their gorillas are extremely healthy. They also supplement with other healthy foods and drinks.
Also the Kyoto zoo goes give them carrots, beans, peppers and small amounts of fruit from time to time. Most fruits are high in sugar and causes tooth decay. Genki has had many cavities and dental issues so they limit her fruit intake.

@andreaschwartz9886 I agree with you Andrea ,they do receive at this zoo the diet that most resembles what they would get from the jungle. People are so use to seeing other zoos feeding them tomatoes,celery and fruits they think that's what they are supposed to eat, when in fact Kyoto zoo is doing it right. They are the healthiest looking I think plus muscular due to equipment made to create more room and exercise. Genki looks like she found the fountain of youth recently lol
@@GrandRegentSScratch In the wild, gorillas also eat some insects, including termites, ants, and the likes. They also eat soil in small quantities. It is believed to help regulate their digestive system. I recall a video showing Kintaro eating ants that was crawling on the bark of one of the little trees in the enclosure. It was about a year ago but can't remember which channel.
