  • Small circles are easily cut on a table saw. This video shows you how, and I show a practical application.

I really like how you created such a fancy lid using an estate sale find! Thank you for sharing the bucket lid tutorial. I don’t have a table saw, just a 9” bench top bandsaw, but I think the lid could be done on a smaller scale for mason jars or maybe tin cans.

You did it again , Big smile when you mentioned the longevity of the pails.I have some from back in the 70s when I did a lot of painting .to me their another tool ,haha….when I couldn’t wash them out properly , I fill them with water and let them sit in the sun for a day then dump em out upside down in the sun for another day . I’ll bet you peeled a couple out in your day….!

Absolutely awesome man. There is nothing worse than Jonesing for a bowl of cat food late at night only to find it has gone stale sitting in the bag for a month.
I’ll be looking for you on Shark Tank soon with this. LOL JK.
My guess on your plywood circles is you are going to make a barrel (or two). We’ll see!

Nice video. I have a portable table saw that sees very little action. If I can build a sled I might use it more often.

Planning a cat food bucket for years...that sounds like me.

My first thought is that the blade could grab the material and make a mess. That doesn't seem to be a problem though. It sure worked well for you.

Wow, I love reusing old buckets to get a double or triple life out of them and had some for MANY years. But I dont think I've ever gotten anything close to 27 years out of one. But at least 15 out of a few. Of course I'm pretty hard on most of my buckets, carrying tools in them, or using outdoors on the farm, which really shortens their life span.
About 12 years ago I scored a great deal on getting a bunch of pickle buckets, very sturdy. But my neighbor, who worked on my farm and seeing that I had plenty saw fit to just abuse beyond reason. Hes a big man and would turn them upside down to stand on them for a stool or sit on them and literally broken them the first instance of that every time. So a week or so later he'd do it again. I was like, dont you see that these cant handle using like that. They just bust and are useless after that (at least for my use). He responded that it was "expedient" and that i had plenty. Oh, it was infuriating that he didnt appreciate the value of them and help to preserve them.
They should have lasted me until now, but I only have 2 left since I'm an asshole about protecting them against stupidity like that.

Thanks. I need a circle for a scale. Now if I can figure out how to start the saw. It's an estate sale saw that sat around until a friend showed my partner how to start it. They were both virus victims so it's up to me.

If the saw does not start when the power switch is turned on, it may need a new start capacitor in the motor. If it is just a matter of locating the switch, that may take some careful inspection. Usually it will somewhere reachable from the normal operator position without reaching around or over the saw blade. Sometimes old saws put the switch further away or a repair in times past relocated the switch. Be careful. A table saw can do a lot of damage very quickly.

The wife keeps the cat food in a closed lid tote, but that lid would have a thousand uses on a former paint bucket. What I really liked was notching the lid so the handle still works....

I get 90% of my antique hand tools that I restore from estate and yard sales. It's funny I somehow can tell within minutes if I'm going to find gold.

Right. Not all of them are great. But the ones that are keep me looking for the next possibly-great sale and going when I can. 👍
