- Catching Big Flathead in Port Stephens using very light gear was a blast! Fishing for bream and flathead using the Bent Minnow and Daiwa Spike 44 I manage a few big flathead while fishing from my kayak.

awesome vid mate. I live in lemon tree passage and im lucky enough to walk my kayak between where you were and the marina. Flatties are thick at the moment and theres always plenty of bream as well. Thanks mate

@@ChrispyyWings yeah live stream on the water. My go pro 10 streams via my phones hotspot. I'll be doing it for sure when I get my yak, will be a change from streaming pc games lol.

Hey Peter, I was using the sugi Berry colour in this video. I really like this colour especially in Port Stephens.
I honestly like a very slow retrieval. This lures doesnt need much to get the action going.

Hey, yeah I have been out fishing as much as I can, which seems to only be once a month at the moment. Life has really changed the last 12 months.
Had a really good session couple weeks ago, finally catching that 40cm + bream.
Managed a 40cm, 43cm and a new pb of 46cm bream all within 5mins of each other. Wish I was recording.

Hey mate how deep should the water be to fish that lure?
I like to fish between 1m and 2m of water.
In this case I think it was around 1.4m and the lure was bouncing off the bottom at times
And how deep does your lure dive in that video?
The daiwa spike dives down to 1.2m to 1.8m I believe
Any tips for fishing off the bank up there?
I was back fishing here on weekend, all flathead were caught in less the 1m of water.
I found they were taking 3inch plastics covered in scent

@ChrispyyWings I find them hard to tie on light leader to light braid. But was a first for me. Got 3 today though so all g 🤙

I invested in the fg whiz to help tie the knots.

Hey, you can catch flathead everywhere, just need to make sure you lure is on the bottom as that's where they are.
The samaki vibe always catches me a flathead.
In behind Swansea is a good spot for flathead
Hey mate so about 3-5 metre of water,what lure should I use to chase Bream?
If I was chasing bream in that deep of water I would be throwing blades. To be honest
I never have luck catching bream past 3m of water.

You will still catch fish mate, throw the samaki vibe in 70mm fork tail and flathead and bream will smash it.
Soft plastic with a 1/8th or heavier jighead will also work. I would throw a bait junkie minnow or zman slimswim in 2' -3' inch size
I usually fish 3m or less with light soft plastic as that's the style I like to fish. I haven't mastered deeper water fishing yet so i couldn't push you in the right direction confidently.
