My ceiling fan was making some clicking sounds but then I drank a 6 pack and I can barely hear it now. Joe any recommendations for which beer to buy next?
Hay, I was all stressed out about having to buy a new fan...more stressed out listening to some guitar solo on someone else's "fix the fan" video. Yours was just fine. So with a smile on my face, I got a ladder and fixed it, Thank You, Mary
Glad u are here. V.J. ! I'm tring to fix the light assy. on an older TAT Deluxe..I will look around before I bother you directly. I bought a new fixture but it wont light up either. Love the older fans!
If you are still around then check my other ceiling fan videos to give you more ideas for yours. Go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to ceiling fans. You there?!!
LMAO....I guess you missed the fact that I had been hearing this clicking ceiling fan for weeks prior to attempting to fix this particular ceiling fan & it had damaged my sanity! LOL
Not sure what could be causing your issue but one time I had a noisy motor & got up there & sprayed some silicone spray down into the vent slits on the motor & the noise went away. It might be something as simple as that. don't overdo it though & let sit for a few minutes before turning back on. You don't want to fry something since you just sprayed something wet in there so I wouldn't do this unless all else fails. Joe :0
Joe, Your videos have been very helpful, thank you. I got a job with a property management company a couple years back. We manage over 40 units at Aina Nalu. I did maintenance work for many years on the main land . As you now, tips and tricks are always helpful. You saved me many hours troubleshooting issues at that property. The first time I came across one of your videos I was doing a kitchen faucet replacement at Aina Nalu. For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out how the thing was attached. I was quite surprised when I RUclipsd it , and found a video shot at the exact same property I was working at, , in the same model condo. I appreciate the assistance, and hope to bump into you one day at the property.
Dude!! So sorry you can't work at this property anymore! But you can still learn more things by watching more of my videos. The best way to find things on my channel is to go to main page then click on playlists & scroll down to the many DIY topics I have waiting to save you money! Hope you are still working on other properties that didn't burn down. Let me know how you're doing & thanks for the message over 4 years ago!
Hii Joe... actually the screws you asked for tighting aren't there at all in my fan. Just that putting in buying?! Will fix this issue?? I have sleepless nights plus unable to focus on my studies...
So sorry for not responding to you sooner. Sounds like the screws have loosened up over time & came out?...or the guy who installed the ceiling fan years ago forgot to install them?..If the ceiling fan is a really old school old rickety looking ceiling fan it might be time to remove it & install a new ceiling fan. You can get pretty good ceiling fan these day for around $150 but then again you need to go about removing & installing a new ceiling fan. I have all those videos on my channel & you & a friend could do it or you could get a friend to watch the videos I have so they can do it for you. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to ceiling fans. Or....you could try to get some screws that will fit up in there. Hope this helps!
I have two flush mount fans (about a year old) but one of them makes the same clicking sound that yours did----the clicking is as fast as whatever speed I put it on. I've checked the fan blade screws and they're all tight, but the noise is making me crazy!! Could the clicking be anything that might be a safety/fire hazard?? Since it's a flush mount with no visible mounting screws, is there anything I can do?? THANKS!!
Rats! Not sure what you can do with your flush mounted clicking ceiling fan. Can you google your ceiling fan name brand then find it & see if they have a downloadable owner's manual where you can look through the troubleshooting area & see if they address the annoying clicking sound you are experiencing. Another thing you can do is go back to the hardware store & ask a salesperson what they might suggest. since your ceiling fan is still fairly knew, depending where you purchased it from, you might be able to get the hardware store to accept your clicking ceiling fan to where you can return it & get another one. Or just return it & get your money back & get a different kind. Most stores will give you your money back or give you a credit for their store, if you are very unhappy with their product. Ask to see a manager & they should do your right, if you decide to return it. Is there anywhere you can see where you can spray some silicone spray in there to see if that stops the clicking noise? You might have to remove some of your ceiling fan to be able to get up in there. Let me know what you come up with. Thanks for your message. Joe :0
Trudy...I just installed a brand new flush mount. When I got it all installed there was an ever-loving, all-annoying click sounded just like this. I took it all apart and kept spinning it and taking it apart step by step checking screws and everything. Found there was a loose wire in the motor and when it spun it hit a little screw making all the noise. A little electrical tape to hold in place and wallah....no more noise. Was a bummer to have to take it apart but now working silently. :) Worth a try?
Wow cool Jill. I'm impressed you were able to stop the annoying clicking sound on your new flush mounted ceiling fan. Way to go! Thanks also for responding back to Trudy with how you fixed yours. Much appreciated! Joe :0
So awesome of you to finally get up there & fix it! You must have the patience & mind of an elephant to keep hearing that for soo many years before finally going bonkers! Dude!!! Way to go!
So glad you get good night sleeps from now on! I have more DIY videos that could help you save more money around the house too. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to see all the ways you can save money. Try it!
Joe, I have a large 5 blade ceiling fan that spins pretty hard on high. Its a flush mount though and doesn't have the same mounting mechanism as in your video. On high, my fan makes random POPS and Snaps, sort of like someone popping their brother with a hand towel. Not a little clicking as in your fan. Everything seems tight, and its had this problem since day 1. Question: Can ceiling fan blades cavitate and flex and then pop to release stored energy in the rotating blade, creating the hard pop that I'm hearing? It doesn't sound electrical - it really sounds like a mechanical pop, such as the popping of a towel. Sometimes I'll get four or five in a two second interval, then nothing for a few seconds, and then perhaps another pop or two, and so on. Thanks!
Popping. Huh. Have never heard someone have that issue before. All the fan blades are tight & the fan blade bracket screws are tight? Do you have an owner's manual? If you have the manual you can go to the troubleshooting area & see if they mention the snapping. Or go online & google the type of ceiling fan you have & see if you can view an owner's manual then go to the troubleshooting area. Let me know if you find out what the popping noise was caused by. How about going to your hardware store & talk to someone in the lighting/ceiling fan department & see if they know what could be the issue. Thanks for your message. Joe :0
Joe I need you help on a squeaky Monte Carlo ceiling fan its not a clicking noise although it maybe one of the same. Is it the motor itself? Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.
Hmmm not sure why a ceiling fan would be making squeaking noises but you might want to spray a silicone spray in there to see if the squeaking noise stops. Also make sure all the screws are tight for ceiling fan blades, fan blade connections & so forth. Let me know. Thanks!
It functions like a screw, it just doesn't have an indentation for a screwdriver. I spent a good few hours on my fan. I completely dismantled it. I even removed it from the ceiling, which was dumb to do by myself because holding that thing up with 1 hand while screwing it back in with the other was not fun. Inside the fan there was something (let's call it the master screw) that I tightened. I reassembled the fan and it works wonderfully, just as well as it did 10 years ago!
Thanks for your reply! I found the blue wire coming down but it must be dead. Still can't get the darn light [new or old] to work. I'm not electrician enough to follow it up into the ceiling. Maybe I'll test the power at the wall switch next. There are two side by side so...Thanks Joe.
Honestly? Same exact problem with my bedroom ceiling fan on highest setting. Made sleeping this summer unbearable. Either have it low and sweat or high and kept awake from knocking. Just adjusted the screw, and it was loose, and voila! Kudos.
My fan didn't have the screws to tighten on the rod. But after tightening all the screws on the fan blades, from the ceiling side and the ground side, the clicking stopped. Thanks for telling me I could fix it myself!
The cotter pin could be a little loose and wiggly, and as the fan turns slightly banging again the fan's metal housing, thus causing the ticking sound. That was the case on one of my fans. I adjusted it a little and no more ticking noise. By the way, the screws on my fan were all tight and did not require adjusting.
The clicking sound can also be caused by the blades not being tightly screwed in or more commonly from dust build up on the blades which causes it to be off balanced.
Thank you for your video. The screws on my fan we’re not in the same place, but I found them and low and behold no more clicking thank you thank you thank you
Wow so cool to hear! I have lots more DIY videos you will appreciate. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to see all the ways you can save money around the house. Try it!
A six minute video on a subject you don't even know how to fix. "Lift the cap and tighten any loose screws". I just explained your video in one sentence.
I tend to explain things a little more thorough than that & lots of viewers appreciate that. You...not so much. I will keep your constructive criticism near the front of my mind though, when it comes to making more new videos! Joe :0
hi VideoJoeKnows.. m also getting clicking problem like you when I put on supply to the ceiling fan. but the difference is it doesn't do rotations, as in its getting stuck with clicky noises. any leads on that?
It could be the motor itself. You could get up there & try spraying some silicone spray down in through the motor housing vent slits & see if that helps. Don't over spray in there as not sure if this may cause a short when turning on the motor. I would try this as a last resort. Sounds like your ceiling fan is old & ready for replacement. Try the spray & if all else fails, you might want to think about replacing your fan with a new one. Good luck. Joe :0
But had you not watched the video before hand you never would've known how to fix your ceiling fan! LOL See how good of a teacher I am? I explained it so well the first time you knew exactly what to do. Good job!
Yeah I had one screw as well to tighten. seemed to do the trick, also I have seen ppl put lubricant on the rod connection to the ceiling before and that helped as well. Nice video, loved the sarcastic tone lol
+Mark Chafin Ha! So glad you liked the tone of the video. I was hoping most viewers would know that I was perturbed with this clicking rather than talking like viewers were school kids or something as some viewers are put off with the way I made this video....but not you! lol Hey thanks too for the tip with the oil....good one & glad to hear you got your ceiling fan fixed! Thanks for your message! Joe :0
I just had a very similar problem, however the screws in my fan were tight. Turns out the cotter pin got a little loose and that's what caused the clicking or tapping. Just a tiny squeeze to the cotter pin with some pliers and the clicking is gone.
Wow awesome. I've never heard of that before. Something you just made me learn! Now VideoJoe Knows! Thanks for taking time out to send me your message. Much appreciated! Joe :0
How old is your ceiling fan? It might be time to replace. Can you get up there & try spraying silicone spray down into the fan motor housing? That might do the trick. Don't spray too much down in there & wait a few minutes before turning the ceiling fan back on. Turn it by hand at first to lube the area. Then wait a few minutes before turning back on. Can you see any other areas which may have set screws which may have come loose, causing the ceiling fan to wobble then tick? :0
If you are referring to the tester....yes. One end of tester to black & the other end of tester to white & it should light your red light up. Make sure to flip your light switch to check. Your light switch might be defective if your wires don't show hot when turning on the light switch. Joe :0
Tossing up between the thumbs up and thumbs down, your video sounds like a really really... really bad infomercial that went on for at least 5min too long, but your solution worked so thumbs up :) Cheers.
LMAO! so what was the final verdict? Yes....now that I responded back to you?!! I have just one question for you.....if you were to hear your clicking ceiling fan for over a month every time you were watching tv in the summer would you be a little ticked off sounding too? Let me know!
Try as I might, I can only do the best that I can. I will just soldier on, making more videos & attempt to be better with speech patterns & tone. Thanks for your observations. Joe :0
I believe that plastic cube is needed in order for the light kit to work as well as the different speeds of the ceiling fan. When you attach the cube, make sure the wire holes are in the right position. look in the cube & you will see what I mean. Joe :0
Video Joe, THANK YOU so much for your video on "How to fix a clicking ceiling fan". I LOVE the way you go through the steps very elementary like. This is exactly what I needed to see and hear. I just watched it and can't wait to go home tonight and tighten up those screws and hope that works. I now have some hope. The clicking noise my fan is making is like torture to me. Instead of taking a baseball bat to it, I can now try this. Thanks again!!
Ha! Try out these steps & see if it fixes your clicking. Hope it does. Are all ceiling fans created equal? NO! There might be another issue going on. Look & see if you see a cotter pin on the top of the motor attaching to the vertical extension rod & see if that is snug. I heard from one viewer that they fixed their clicking by removing the cotter pin & rebending the cotter pin to fit snug & that was what their particular clicking was from. Let me know what happens! Joe :0
VideoJoeKnows You're right, mine had a cotter pin, so I tightened that down. My son is coming over and I'll have him put some muscle on it too. I also checked the screws on the blades - tightened those down also. What I did helped about 90%. Maybe when my son finishes with it we will be at 100%....torture decreased...goal accomplished ~~
VideoJoeKnows Hi Joe, my son came over and laughed hysterically at me because, to him, the fan was silent. Still, I made him tighten that cotter pin even more. It's great now, 99%, but only because of my super sensitive ears. THANK YOU AGAIN!! :)
This ceiling fan brand is a Fanimation & the style is an Islander. Try any ceiling fan/lighting store & if they don't have it, they can probably order it. Or try the internet & you might be able to purchase there. They're kind of expensive though. This one was around $700 & that didn't include a light kit. Joe :0
A buzzing noise huh? Is that a new noise or has it been doing that for quite awhile? How old is your unit? It might be time to replace with a new one...? Joe :0
Haha yes I was like that because I had listened to that clicking ceiling fan for a few weeks before making this video! Hey did you know that you can now find me (VideoJoe) on Roku?! VideoJoe has his own Roku TV channel & it's called "DIY for Beginners" what else LOL. If you have a Roku TV then just go to the search area & type in the channel & it should pop up & you can start viewing VideoJoe there right on TV while you sit in your favorite arm chair. Grab a bowl of popcorn & have at it because I know VideoJoe is always there to assist you with saving money around the house. Check him out on Roku! 😎🤓Thanks again for stopping by!
I know what you mean about now being able to get a good night's rest. The same thing was driving me batty, too! Not anymore though!! Thanks for commenting. Much appreciated! Joe :0
Did you tighten the set screws Like I show in the video? After that if it still clicks, try spraying a silicone spray into the motor housing. Just a little. Don't overdo it. Try that & let me know if it stops clicking. Joe :0
I replaced the entire ceiling fan box and it didn't fix anything. Tightened the blades, got a new light kit... and it was the exact same damn set screws making the click that you showed here. Oh my GAWD it was infuriating. Thanks for this video.
Thank you. Tightening the screws on the exterior of the fan and gently cleaning its blades fixed the clicking sound that was coming from the ceiling fan.
i have tryed as you showed but non of my screws or bults are lose i have had the fan for a year almost 8 months now and now have a click click sound evry few seconds any ideas what els it may be?
+vamdolly Not sure what else it could be. Rewatch this video & maybe an idea will pop into your mind on something else to check. Another thing you can do is go to your local hardware store & speak to a salesperson who is familiar with ceiling fans. Maybe they might have another idea for you. Good luck. The ceiling fan you got came with an owner's manual with the manufacture's phone number? Maybe you can call them & see what they might have to say. Good luck!
If it's not loose screws, you likely need to rebalance it which is actually quite simple. (Google "rebalancing a clicking ceiling fan" for detailed instructions.) Your local hardware store should carry a kit which will include a weight BUT a strip of tape and 6-8 pennies will do the trick just as easily. Best of luck. ✌
I've heard of people balancing their ceiling fans that way but I have not had a need to do it that way just yet. Plus the weights etc. may be difficult to attach to a ceiling fan blade such as the ones I was working on since the backside is not flat. But thanks for the info as any viewer who choose to read your message will benefit from it. Thanks again! Joe :0
Also there is a plastic cube with black going in and I think purple and ? wires coming out. What might this be? As I said, it;s an old TAT Deluxe. Thanks again.
Awesome to hear this worked for you! sometimes you have to do more than that to fix a wobbly ceiling fan & I have more videos for that if you want to see how you will be fixing the next wobbly ceiling fan. Go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to ceiling fans. Thanks!
Usually there is an additional wire for the light kit. I've usually seen it as a blue wire. It goes all the way up through the ceiling fan. Hope it's there. Thanks for your message. Good luck with the light! Joe :0
I had this really annoying problem too. It's just that the center post is designed poorly. When I tightened all the screws and the mounting bracket up top, it clicks a lot less. Before this it used to click all the time and constantly, now it does a tiny, barely noticeable click once a min.
Not sure what could be causing the screeching noise. Did you ever figure it out or is it still doing it? How about applying a bit of silicone spray up there to see what happens?
Holly thank you so much for your kind message. It's viewers like you that make it worth while for me to make these videos then post on my channel for viewers (you) to learn from! I have a ton of DIY videos for you to check out. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down through the many DIY topic categories I have waiting to entertain you & for you to learn from so you can save money around the house. I even have a nature playlists as well as an inspirational playlist too that you might like! Happy New Year to you....make it the best yet!
Thank you Joe! I tightened the screws on my base and my fan is quiet again! I had switched the rotational direction, since I'm using my fireplace and it started making an awful clicking sound! I'm happy I watched your video. :)
Maggie Frederick The direction serves a purpose: counterclockwise in the summer to draw up and circulate cool air, clockwise in the winter to draw hot air downwards. A properly installed ceiling fan should work in both directions without clicking noises.
That clicking noise was the ceiling fan. I fixed it though. I like the fact that you noticed the ceiling fan needed to be cleaned. I did that too! (not on the video though). Joe :0
Good idea, especially if your ceiling fan is pretty old anyway. I have some videos that might help you. Go to my main channel page & scroll down to the playlists & I have prepared many videos re: ceiling fans. That should help. Good luck with your project! Joe :0
Do you have one of those cheap wire testers? Get one then when you turn the light switch on, you can test the additional wires in the ceiling box. Keep working at it. Joe :0
I didn't expect you to reply, heh your like a celebrity I know you get a ton of questions. My ceiling fan I think is wire wrong it stop working and only spins slowly now on every speed..
Has your ceiling fan always run on just the slow speed? Most ceiling fans are straight forward with the wiring.....white to white...black to black. Do you have a pull chain on your ceiling fans that controls your fan speed? A pull chain should be there for the light (if you have a light kit) then a separate pull chain for the fan speed. Is there a hole on the base where it looks like for a pull chain but the pull chain is not there? I think someone jerked it out & it was pulled out with the fan being on the low speed. Could that be your issue? Joe :0
I actually watched 3 more of your videos. I enjoyed them . Sorry I was d*ck. I was drunk and someone just sucked out on me with runner runner in my poker game. BTW, is used an old paintbrush to clean the blades :D
Haha so awesome you stuck around to watch more of my videos! Dude you can save lots of money around the house. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists to see all the stuff I have waiting for you for saving your money! Try it! Thanks for stopping by!!
When I first moved in 3 weeks ago it was working fine the first week then one night while it was on I heard it lose power then it just slowed down and every since then its been spinning slow, and makes this loud wineing sound.
Sounds like you have a very old ceiling fan in need of being replaced. You can pick them up pretty cheap now days. I just happen to have some videos for you on how to install your new ceiling fan! Go to my main channel page & open the playlists & scroll down to the ceiling fan playlist. I have lots of videos on there, all about ceiling fans. Ah....I made them for you.....! Joe :0
This type of ceiling fan fly wheel is rubber & seems to be out of round for a reason....?....as when the ceiling fan goes around, I can see the flywheel wobble but it doesn't effect the fan blades at all....when it's going right. Not sure why they made this fan brand like this. Joe :0
That was the intent but read some of the comments & some viewers got mad at how I sounded! I was annoyed by the clicking ceiling fan I was listening to for the last month. Wouldn't anyone?....right? Thanks so much for your message!
Oh my gosh, I just tightened the two exact screws on my ceiling fan that you tightened and it worked! No more ticking sound! Thank you! I hate to wait on my husband to address stuff like this. I DID IT MYSELF!
So awesome to hear you fixed it yourself! I have a ton of videos on my channel that could save you more money around the house. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to whatever you are looking for. Try it....Miss Stud muffin...!
Great video, but a couple of friendly suggestions for for your future clips: 1) Please get to the point (it takes almost 2 minutes here to get to the problem) and 2) Please don't talk to us like you're Mr. Rogers talking to 3-4 year olds. Your cadence is almost patronizing! Haha! That said, you seem super nice and thanks for an informative and helpful vid.
So sorry! LOL I guess this clicking ceiling fan drove me bonkers for a month or so before I got the video camera out & put my frustrations out there for all to see. I'm an average Joe....member? Thanks for being nice about it though & glad to hear you learned something new!
Haha not sure as this was years ago! Hope you learned something new! If you want to see more videos for ceiling fans then go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to ceiling fans. Thanks for stopping by!
Ah! I just left a comment about this on another one of your videos. Mine clicks like this and there is no way I can sleep with that! I've been using an oscillating fan to keep me cool because I need the coolness of a fan but just can't sleep with that tick tick ticking! My parents want to replace it, but it's still a good fan, so why replace it?
skip to 1:43
..thx..
Wholy hell the first part was an ordeal to listen to. Your the best!
Also, play at 1.5x speed
& miss all the good stuff?! No way Jose!
Thanks for stopping by!
Before I busted out my ladder and made the climb, I googled the problem and your vid was on top. Thanks for this!
Chef Tips Way to go with finding my video & fixing it yourself! Awesome! Joe :0
I felt like I was watching Blues Clues.
Ha! Did you get your ceiling fan fixed though?!! Joe :0
I was thinking Mr Rogers
Welcome to the neigh bor hood. Just want to be your neighbor......! Joe :0
That was hilarious
My ceiling fan was making some clicking sounds but then I drank a 6 pack and I can barely hear it now. Joe any recommendations for which beer to buy next?
Sorry. All I drink is diet coke! Joe :0
Hay, I was all stressed out about having to buy a new fan...more stressed out listening to some guitar solo on someone else's "fix the fan" video. Yours was just fine. So with a smile on my face, I got a ladder and fixed it, Thank You, Mary
Wow Mary!! Way to go! don't take no for an answer.....ever!
some guitar solo on someone else's . THIS IS GETTING ME MAD WHEN I HEAR THAT SODDING MUSIC OR DRUM BANGING ON THE START OF A VID STOP IT FOOLS ..
Glad u are here. V.J. ! I'm tring to fix the light assy. on an older TAT Deluxe..I will look around before I bother you directly. I bought a new fixture but it wont light up either. Love the older fans!

LMAO....I guess you missed the fact that I had been hearing this clicking ceiling fan for weeks prior to attempting to fix this particular ceiling fan & it had damaged my sanity! LOL
Cheers Joe, my new fan was doing this too and the screw seemed tight but just a little turn fixed it.
Great job on getting your fan fixed! way to go! Joe :0
Holy sh*t, that 6 minute video shouldve taken 20 seconds....smoke another one

Thought so!

YOU are a genius! It worked! I tightened the screws on the bedroom ceiling fan and it has stopped making that ticking sound. THANK YOU!
Awesome sauce for sure!!!
Un-fricking-believable....I've been painfully dealing with that clicking noise for 10 years now. I can't believe that's all it was. Thanks a lot!

Your intro is toooo long. Good freakin' grief. Nobody wants to be entertained, they just want a fix.
I just turn on the video camera & go for it & I never know what I'm going to say next.
& for the next ten years til now?!! Wow dude!!!!!!! Way to go!
Thanks for your reply! I found the blue wire coming down but it must be dead. Still can't get the darn light [new or old] to work. I'm not electrician enough to follow it up into the ceiling. Maybe I'll test the power at the wall switch next. There are two side by side so...Thanks Joe.
Lots of times the blue wire could be for the ceiling fan light.....
Yay, tightening the screws worked! And I thought this video was hilarious. Thanks, Joe!
Awesome to hear ONE person (liked) this video!! LOL
Honestly? Same exact problem with my bedroom ceiling fan on highest setting. Made sleeping this summer unbearable. Either have it low and sweat or high and kept awake from knocking. Just adjusted the screw, and it was loose, and voila! Kudos.
Adam Stone Awesome! Way to go! Thanks for your message!
My fan didn't have the screws to tighten on the rod. But after tightening all the screws on the fan blades, from the ceiling side and the ground side, the clicking stopped. Thanks for telling me I could fix it myself!
So awesome you were able to fix it! Way to go!
Wow that would for sure be something to check as well. Thanks for the tip!
Oh, look, it's the Mister Rogers of ceiling fan repair!
"Won't you be my neighbor?"
LMAO...right! Welcome to my neighborhood!!
Sure!
The clicking sound can also be caused by the blades not being tightly screwed in or more commonly from dust build up on the blades which causes it to be off balanced.
Yes those things would need to be checked too. Thanks for your message!
Joe :0
Well done, I think I’d rather be stabbed in the eye than listen his voice again, 🤮
hi VideoJoeKnows.. m also getting clicking problem like you when I put on supply to the ceiling fan. but the difference is it doesn't do rotations, as in its getting stuck with clicky noises.
any leads on that?
If your ceiling fan is not clicking when rotating then when is your ceiling fan clicking?
It could be the motor itself. You could get up there & try spraying some silicone spray down in through the motor housing vent slits & see if that helps. Don't over spray in there as not sure if this may cause a short when turning on the motor. I would try this as a last resort. Sounds like your ceiling fan is old & ready for replacement. Try the spray & if all else fails, you might want to think about replacing your fan with a new one. Good luck. Joe :0
Thanks for the info, but I fixed my fan in less time than it took to watch your video. 🙃
But had you not watched the video before hand you never would've known how to fix your ceiling fan! LOL See how good of a teacher I am? I explained it so well the first time you knew exactly what to do. Good job!
Glad it worked for you! Sometimes it could be something else but this is a good place to start...wouldn't you say?!! Thanks for commenting. Joe :0
A six minute video on tightening a screw.
LMAO a six minute video explaining to you WHY you should check to see if they are tight then showing other so you know why. See?
Our brand new fan is making same sound too. Hopefully this video helps 🙏🏻
Just heard from another viewer who had same issue as you on a new install! How did you get the clicking noise to stop? Please let VideoJoe Know! LOL
Lol..same here but I gave him a thumbs up 👍
LMAO! so what was the final verdict? Yes....now that I responded back to you?!! I have just one question for you.....if you were to hear your clicking ceiling fan for over a month every time you were watching tv in the summer would you be a little ticked off sounding too? Let me know!
So awesome.....thanks!
Is your goal 100 per cent accomplished now? Joe :0
VideoJoeKnows Hi Joe, my son came over and laughed hysterically at me because, to him, the fan was silent. Still, I made him tighten that cotter pin even more. It's great now, 99%, but only because of my super sensitive ears. THANK YOU AGAIN!! :)
Way to go! Joe :0
Joe :0
This useful video has helped me in resolving my fan issue.....thanks a lot !!
Awesome. Way to go!
A buzzing noise huh? Is that a new noise or has it been doing that for quite awhile? How old is your unit? It might be time to replace with a new one...? Joe :0
What kind of fan is that? Where can you get it?
Your tone of voice at the beginning was funny and your right they’re still worth being fixed they shall not be replaced
@@VideoJoeKnows I did not know that
WELL DONE BUD STOPPED IT
Awesome job with your fix. Way to go!
Get to the f-ing point
He's apparently trying out for Mr. Rogers' part. Argh.
The point is I was going to do whatever needed to be done to this ceiling fan to get that clicking stopped if it was the last thing I ever did!!!!
Did I pass?!!
I know what you mean about now being able to get a good night's rest. The same thing was driving me batty, too! Not anymore though!! Thanks for commenting. Much appreciated! Joe :0
Fantastic! Great presentation and quick fix to a bothersome problem. Now we can sleep! Thanks a million.
Robert Martin Dude way to go with fixing your ceiling fan! Joe :0
Too Long. Skip through to about 3 minutes in and that's where the content resides.
Thanks!
So glad you stuck with it & got it fixed!
Thank you. Tightening the screws on the exterior of the fan and gently cleaning its blades fixed the clicking sound that was coming from the ceiling fan.
Nice job with your repair for sure. Nice going!
Thank you! I loved the video. It made me giggle and it fixed my problem 👍
That's what I was hoping for! On both accounts! This clicking was driving me nuts & I'm sure you could tell LOL
Yes it does-- it is more rapid. On the fast setting, it is definitely constant. Ceiling fan is at least 5 years old
Check those things out & let me know what you find. Thanks!
Thanks for your constructive criticism. I will take note for my upcoming videos I plan to make. Joe :0
i have tryed as you showed but non of my screws or bults are lose i have had the fan for a year almost 8 months now and now have a click click sound evry few seconds any ideas what els it may be?
Not sure what that would be & would hate to guess then lead you astray! Hey VideoJoe doesn't Know!
Joe, your voice is just fine!
Thanks so much for the thumbs up!!
Tightened the suggested set of screws on the fan and clicking stopped. Thanks for the great info :)
Thanks!
Does it make this noise in the medium & slow position too? How old is your ceiling fan? Joe :0
Usually there is an additional wire for the light kit. I've usually seen it as a blue wire. It goes all the way up through the ceiling fan. Hope it's there. Thanks for your message. Good luck with the light! Joe :0
try to change bearings and check for Armature and coil alignment. some time Alignment goes of and because of friction between Armature and coil. :)
Wow nice!
yea i think im going to replace it i know it was sitting for some time it has been making this noise
Yes I would replace as it sounds like your ceiling fan was a bit tired for sure. How did the new ceiling fan install go?
I had this really annoying problem too. It's just that the center post is designed poorly. When I tightened all the screws and the mounting bracket up top, it clicks a lot less. Before this it used to click all the time and constantly, now it does a tiny, barely noticeable click once a min.
Hmmmm does your ceiling fan still click 6 years after posting your initial message?
I love this video. Thanks. I'll try it. I haven't turned my ceiling fan on high for 2 years. Lol
Eva Rangel Ha! Good luck. Let me know how it goes. Joe :0
Didn't mean to sound annoying. I will take that as food for thought, for my next video. I hoped you were able to learn something anyway. Joe :0
So glad you were able to find this video. Hope it helped. Joe :0
hi Joe,
my celinig fan is making a screaching loud noise when it is starting, but once it gets speed, the noise stops. what could be causing that?
Not sure what could be causing the screeching noise. Did you ever figure it out or is it still doing it? How about applying a bit of silicone spray up there to see what happens?
i love your videos thank you
Holly thank you so much for your kind message.
I love the sound of it..
LMAO...most people hate it after awhile.
You're welcome. Thanks for stopping by! Joe :0
I hope it works, gonna try this one tomorrow. The noise is driving me insane.
I hear you! Did you ever get it fixed? Sledge hammer might work!
Thank you Joe! I tightened the screws on my base and my fan is quiet again! I had switched the rotational direction, since I'm using my fireplace and it started making an awful clicking sound! I'm happy I watched your video. :)
Great job on fixing your fan! Thanks for watching my videos! Joe :0
Joe :0
Worked for me. Thanks. Clicking is gone. One loose screw.
Nice job with figuring it out!
Thank you very helpful. It worked. Keith
Way to go!
not sure how you would repair a clicking flush mount type. I have not worked on one of those yet. Good luck.
Thsi video is very useful. Thanks ☺
Thanks for your message for sure!
I remember watching this like 1000 times this video never gets old so nostalgic
Haha. In the last 3 years, how many more times have you watched this?!
hey thanks for your comments. Much appreciated! Joe :0
The point of the video was to show what you could do, if your ceiling fan was making an annoying clicking sound.
Joe :0
Great job.
will try it tomorrow...thanks for video, your narrating cracked me up ;-)
That was the intent but read some of the comments & some viewers got mad at how I sounded!
I figured the more I talked, the more you would learn. Sometimes it doesn't for everyone. Thanks for your input! Joe :0
I just laughed so hard when you started out with, "Can you hear that?" XD Good lord it is so hard to find GOOD ceiling fans!!!!
Ha! Glad I could make you laugh! Joe :0
5:59 why were sleeping on the couch? And what that humming and hissing in the background? Is it the sound of the fan running?
Haha not sure as this was years ago! Hope you learned something new! If you want to see more videos for ceiling fans then go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to ceiling fans. Thanks for stopping by!
Ah! I just left a comment about this on another one of your videos. Mine clicks like this and there is no way I can sleep with that! I've been using an oscillating fan to keep me cool because I need the coolness of a fan but just can't sleep with that tick tick ticking! My parents want to replace it, but it's still a good fan, so why replace it?
Well did you ever get it fixed?
