Thanks for the video and congrats on your install. I did note one rather serious error that should be pointed out. You screwed in the drain fixture in and then attempted to apply the plumber's putter (and a very small amount) AFTER you screwed the drain in. More like how you would apply silicone caulk around the edges afterwards. You want to use a big fat ring (twenty times as much as you did) of putty around the bottom of the drain BEFORE you screw it in. The pressure of screwing the drain down will then force all the excess putty out the sides and you can just pick the excess up and wipe it away with your fingers and drop it back in your tub of putty. THis will leave MUCH more putty in there helping keep it water right. This will create a dramatically better seal than what you did by trying to push the putty under the edges with your fingers after screwing it in. You want to apply a thin bead silicone sealant along the edges after screwing the fixture down, not the plumber's putty.
Nice job. My 4" shower PVC shower drain has a compression fitting and I will hopefully have it fixed this coming week. Getting the old one offwill ne hard as we cleaned and tighten it yesterday and now it is really tight (but still leaks) and was very difficult to losten the nut in the basement. Any pointers welcome. Thanks.
@@drbuilds1 i ended up ordering an exact replacement for that shower , when it arrives it just screws on to the shower and then I'll go under and cement glue it. Thank you.
Not exactly directly matching the topic, but: No tray fits my tiny shower space. (65x75 cm = 25.5"x29.5") Can you cut a shower tray? How do you cut a 3d acrylic surface? As a 1-year temporary fix, could I use multiple layers of liquid membrane instead of a tray? (I actually want the fix to be temporary. Don't ask.)
I don't think you sealed the upper portion of the drain properly to the shower floor. You should have placed the plumbers putty around the flange and then screwed it down and not just around the flange before you screwed it down. I could be wrong here, but it looks like that putty will go away after a couple of showers.
I'll take that advice doing it my self my plummer didn't seal my shower drain my flooring is now very weak! 2 years of water leaking and I had no clue until I heard a Crack 😢
Can't afford to do the bathroom floor I did call the plummer he laughed and hung up! So I'm just gonna get plywood and put it right over the top of the old floor lol what else can I do! I dint wanna end up under the crawl space lol 😂
Bro you should watch some videos before doing the job which would make your work easier and perfect.. for example the way you applied putty and gasket ..but any way it worked out for you..👍
I recently remodeled the whole bathroom and when I removed the old shower insert there was no trace of water leaking, It seems like it worked out pretty well for me. Thanks for noticing
I’m all for doing it yourself but making videos trying to teach people when you aren’t even a plumber doesn’t make sense to me you didn’t use a cleaner before gluing the pipe and you didn’t use the plumbers putty the right way and what’s even funnier is the people who don’t know plumbing saying great job 😂
You do know there is single application glue right...that may be what he used...also you don't need to be a plumber to fix or show people how you fix something....
I usually just let these kind of comments go. In your case I will make an exception. He was using black ABS pipe, it is not required to be primed which is one of the reasons it's used. One less step for the plumber which saves time. Yes he should have rolled the plumbers putty and applied it before it was put into place. Guess what, the guy saved himself hundreds of dollars by figuring it out himself and in turn posted his experience on RUclips. People now have another video to watch in a different setting, for the average home owner they will watch several to gain the confidence to attempt a project. From each video they see and read the proper way. A plumber video is all and good as they break out specialized tools the average home owner will never have.Good for this guy who fixed his drain. leak free and saved himself some serious money. He used a jig saw, that right there is making do with what you have.

This is great feedback, I will be soon remodeling the whole bathroom and I will take your input into account. Thanks again.

I would use plumber tape around it and add some putty too. If that does not work I would change the PVC. I hope that can help.
Good luck
Great job sir. Thank you for the information. Ill be fixing my parents shower drain tomorrow..
I am glad I was able to help
Hi Sonny, where you able to fix your parents shower?

FYI Duct tape is not actually for ducting seams. You needing a coupler and proper hvac foil tape

I would see if you can find an adapter in your local hardware store and make a connection that fits your shower.
You can drypack it or get a schluter shower pan that can be cut into size

👋🏾 I forgot to mention that I went to the crawling space to make sure that it wasn’t leaking.
Are you a plumber? You should show us the way
cleaner the fuck are you talking about a cleaner?

That wouldn’t cost $500-$1000. Probably $200-$400. Even less if it was all accessible.
It also depends where you live, I live in Oregon and is not cheap to hire a Plumber.
its 600/hr in the bay area lmao
I swear to fucking God why do the videos take so long to get into
Patience is a great virtue my friend
