Tried hitting play gta iv. Doesnt work, added exceptions to anti virus. Moved file location. Nothing is seeming to work. Trying this out on rog ally windows 11. Just launches into black screen, 5 seconds goes back to desktop. Really wanted to enjoy this on the go, but looks like ill just be playing vanilla.
Okay, after long hours I have found a solution. Make sure the game isn't in the steam programs folder before you start the process. I'm not sure, but it worked for me. My new question is how to use windows live

If your game refuses to start after downgrading (black screen for a few seconds), you can fix it by going inside the GTA IV folder in your downgraded installation, cutting all of the content and pasting them in your downgraded installation main folder SKIPPING the duplicates. Then delete the GTA IV folder, and that's it.
That's an absolutely great method! You can either do that, or launch the game for the first time on the RGL/Complete Edition update PRIOR to your downgrade. Then after downgrading, things should be all good. If not that, then move your GTA folder to another location on your PC.
@@Bambuyashee your saves are located in Documents (original) or in AppData/Local (downgraded game). But you need to downgrade the saves as well as the game. The saves are not automatically transfered from one place to another I think
I downgraded in this exact way several times, and I am experiencing an anti-piracy measure that makes it so I cannot access computers. I downgraded GTA 4 awhile ago without this issue though that version sadly got auto updated by steam, which is why I am downgrading again. Any help would be greatly appreciated Edit: Yes I do own the Steam version if anyone was wondering
What’s up, Mohammed. I’ve hardly heard of the issue. Are you launching through the “LaunchGTAIV.exe” or “PlayGTAIV.exe”, or are you launching the game through Steam? This makes all the difference in the world.
@@NotAJ The downgrader didn’t give me a “LaunchGTAIV.exe” file, I’ve tried multiple versions of the downgrader but none of them did. I launch the game through “PlayGTAIV.exe” because I know the game will auto-update if I use steam. I was pretty sure that the first time I downgraded the game awhile ago I had a “LaunchGTAIV.exe”, but I checked the folder and I didn’t have it. Thanks.
Hey, so what version of lcpdfr can I use on this version now, btw it works great and like how you explain everything into detail. I see the lcpdfr for 1.1 and 1.0d. Should I get the 1.0d or just the 1.1 legacy, because I have the complete version.
Got it working after a couple of hiccups. for some reason the 1070 and the radio downgrade zip files wouldn't download, but reading the error page i fixed this by downloading them manually from the forums and redowngrading. also weirdly it flagged my exe file as being modded even though it was as fresh an install as you could get. i have never played gta iv before and just got this from the rockstar launcher, i just ignored that and it seems fine. finally i was getting to the loading screen with the cartoons of the characters and the music, but a few seconds in the game would crash. i fixed this by changing the PlayGTAIV exe to always run in administrator mode. all working now, hope this helps someone :)
The first thing I did before this guide was to verify the integrity of my game files via Steam for this, for which Steam verified that all files were original and intact. So not sure why the installer gave a warning about the lack of integrity (i.e. the MD5 hashes not matching) for the default Steam installation, so I proceeded anyways. I proceeded with the downgrader as per the instructions here, but when I launched PlayGTAIV.exe I got a black screen with a white loading bar at the bottom that immediately crashed. After reading the comments here, it is said that launching the downgrade through the Steam installation folder can cause issues. My Steam games are installed to a secondary HDD rather than the usual C:\Program Files\ directory, but nonetheless I figured it could cause an issue so I moved the folder anyways. Running the same downgrader on the backup (manually made before running downgrader) that I moved to a non-Steam folder on the aforementioned secondary HDD, I got the same error about the hashes that I ignored again. Gonna run through the installer with my options to see if anyone can reproduce this: - version 1.0.8.0 - No GFWL - Sneed Radio, "Also install no EFLC music in IV fix" not selected + New Vladivostok - ScriptHook for 1.0.8.0 - Simple Traffic Loader - SteamAchievements - xliveless (automatically selected) - ZMenuIV v23.06.25.1 - ZolikaPatch v6.9.8.2 - Skipped file downgrading. Gotta make new saves for the mods I want to install anyways. - Recommended Commandline, no optional -windowed box selected - Exited installer WITHOUT pressing the Play GTA IV button. I don't trust it. Looks like this worked. It looks like the major issue was the location of GTA IV while running the downgrader. Keeping this here if it helps anyone.
My friend, I did everything without no any errors, but when I enter the game, it stays on the black screen and suddenly finds a virus, what should I do?
What’s up, SyLex! Okay, so not to worry, it’s not a virus at all, and this happens with everyone including myself. Windows Defender basically believes that “ZolikaPatch.asi” is a bad thing to have, but it isn’t. So it keeps on stopping you from playing because it thinks you shouldn’t have it, but you would need it to stop it from asking for a product key. All you’d need to do is basically add an exclusion in Windows Defender (Virus & Protection Settings) for your entire GTA IV folder. Once you do that, you should be good to enter the game without any errors. Make sure that “ZolikaPatch.asi” is still in your game’s folder, too. I hope this helps!! ❤️
This downgrader just gives me an error everytime. I used it on a clean game out of program files and it still doesn't work. Find it easier to just manually downgrade.

I've done all of this and I can play but my camera keeps wobbling like crazy like the drunk camera, this has never happened before and only after I downgraded the game. Maybe it was because I was in a shootout or I ran too much? but even after I walked normally it still took so long to stop wobbling. And the every car I go into keeps burning too Edit: I know this, the game thinks it's a pirated copy and the anti piracy thing is acting up, does anyone know how to fix this?
That is so strange. Have you tried installing ZolikaPatch (recommended for downgrade) or did you skip out on it? That might alleviate the problem. Let me know if it does.

Love watching making moves in liberty city but if i may ask would you consider doing a video explaining how to download mods( business, arrest warrant, etc) and get them to work properly? i feel like a lot of people want that video
First and foremost, thanks so much for your support and I’m happy to have inspired you to do a similar thing for your game! Honestly, I’ve been trying to ‘map out’ how I’d do such a video. @@NotAJ no sir, after the game launch, it's immediately show Niko character where I believe that I can't change between play the dlc mode or Niko mode.
Forget convoluted downgrading, new mods need to adapt to the simpler way of installing update files through fusionfix and fusionoverload. Its already possible to add old mods to the current version of the game
You're right, SOME older mods can definitely be installed through FusionFix and Fusion Overloader. Certain script mods and ENBs only work on versions below the Complete Edition. Also, having played this game as long as I have, there's just not going to be any feasible way for certain mods to update to CE. At the same time, nothing is different between 1080 and CE, the game is quite the same regardless. And with a tool that requires just reading, you can easily downgrade the game with this tool.
Hi, how do you mod gta 4 on rockstar games launcher? For me it just verifies the game every time i play and deletes mods. Is it because lf the downgrade??
Depends on which version you downgraded to! If you downgrade to version 1040, then TBOGT and TLAD won’t be available. The later versions of the game possess those two DLCs.
I’m having issues with opening GTA IV through the playGTAIV file. It just goes to a black screen and then closes out every time. I’ve reinstalled the game from scratch and tried the process again and the same issue happens? The install of the downgrader went fine with no issues. Any ideas?
IT HAPPENS TO ME TOO, AND IVE SEEN ONLY A FEW OTHER REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING AND NOBODY EVER FINDS A SOLUTION. I'm so close to pulling my hair out from it. I did everything EXACTLY right in this video, to the T. I'm about to just throw my hands up in the air and say its because my PC cant handle it even though that'd be the fuckest bologna shit ever.
yeah i fucking give up. I'm tired of being sent on wild goose chases thinking I might've actually found the fix only to realize it isn't the case. It honestly just works based on the person's luck, and I know by this point I am not a lucky one.
@@standoidontwantalastname6500 I think I finally figured it out. I was tinkering for hours last night and managed to fix the issue for myself. When you use the downgrader, you move the game files to a separate place. For me, I moved them to a folder I created called GRAND THEFT AUTO. Once the downgrade process is complete, for some reason you end up with all the main files you need in your own folder (GRAND THEFT AUTO for me), but there’s another folder within this folder called GTAIV which contains the original files too. I figured out that having both sets of these files messes up booting the game. So go into your own folder (GRAND THEFT AUTO), then open the folder GTAIV. Select all the files and folders within GTAIV, and CUT them. Go back out to the previous folder (GRAND THEFT AUTO) and PASTE them all there. There will be some files/folders that already exist and ask if you want to overwrite them. Select SKIP for all of these. Once these have all been pasted into the new folder (GRAND THEFT AUTO), you can delete the GTAIV folder that exists and everything inside of it. Hope this helps. Worked a treat for me with the steam version of the game. Then just use the file PlayGTAIV to launch the game
@@nevusaur you are a goddamn hero, thank you so much. i would have never thought of that in a million years and I haven't seen such a solution recorded anywhere. I don't even get what the point of having that folder in there is because it just seems like a backup of the original files, except it literally asks if you want to backup the original files on the downgrader. Is doing that an intended process and they somehow expect it to be obvious? because it really... isn't, lol. but i'm glad you figured it out either way
Sorry for the late reply, my friends! I’m glad you were able to figure it out ❤️ Alternatively, you just need to allow Windows Defender to have an exclusion over your GTA IV folder. The reason the game goes black and then immediately shuts away is because of Windows Defender. Sadly, it hates “ZolikaPatch.asi”.
What are the words for those who installed GTA IV EFLC FusionFix? I want to get the IV Tweaker - Modloader & Limit Adjuster to not replace cars (instead of doing all manually), but thats only available with IV-SDK, therefore, downgrading, i guess. But thats a lot of rework now 😥
I'm sorry to say, but I haven't used either of them before. So I'm sure how to really help you there. I think both have similar functions, but are compatible on certain editions of GTA IV. It all depends on your modding preferences though. If you want only just car mods and don't care about any script mods or ENBs, then go with the Complete Edition. If you want some script mods (ASI, NET, IV-SDK, etc.), then you're better off downgrading. I usually recommend version 1080 to those types of folks since the performance is just as good as the Complete Edition, but certain mods require version 1070.
Do you have ZolikaPatch installed? Do me a favor - open the ZolikaPatch.ini using Notepad, find "NewMemorySystem", change the value on that from 0 to 1. Save the file. Then try launching the game and let me know if this works or not.

So, I did what the video instructed, and everything works great.... except I am unable to save, at all. I thought maybe it was fusionfix causing an issue but nope nothing. I had no mods prior to downgrading, and i downgraded my previous save file. I am going to try to redownload and install the game again, then run the downgrader to see if it fixes the issue. I'll update this with my findings. EDIT: Still getting the same issue. redownloaded and reinstalled gta iv from steam, ran the downgrader, and started the game, and the same issue persists. EDIT EDIT: Solved the issue. Downloaded a program called runasdate, and set the date to 05/22/2020. Worked a treat.
Hey there, I am sorry for seeing this 2 months later. Glad to hear you got everything sorted out. But I'm quite astonished that the issue was fixed by changing the date. If it works, it works lol.

Hey there! Have you tried to first launch GTA IV before downgrading it? This registers the game's anti-piracy protection on your computer. After doing that, then downgrade.
@@NotAJ So launch GTA IV before downgrading it in order for PlayGTAIV.exe to work? I'm having the same issue. Mine isn't showing up as ".exe" either, its just titled PlayGTAIV, so idk if that matters.
That is so strange, I can’t say I’ve ever had that happening to me. Have you tried to move your GTA folder to a location like “My Documents”? Try that, then try importing files into OpenIV.
hi, i have a problem, i can't save my game! it says "save failed, check your storage device and try again" EDIT: i solved it, just run the app as an administrator
I’m having an issue where I can boot up the game fine, but when I load into a game it will show where I am for a split second and then crash. I added the exception to Windows defender and that didn’t seem to work.
I just can't seem to get the game to launch when I downgrade it to 1.0.4. It loads up with a black screen and white loading bar at the bottom then crashes.
Sometimes the radio downgrade can take a while on your first attempt, it did for me. I had to give it maybe 15-20 minutes considering how slow my internet must’ve been. It takes sometime since (I believe) it downloads the radio stations first, then installs it into your game. Don’t guarantee that but that’s probably why. Make sure your connection is strong too.
Thank you so much for the kind words! Infinite loading screen? That's strange. Do you have any mods installed? I would recommend getting a commandline if you have not yet.
8:40 I opened my file but there's no saves, can someone help me I don't want to lose my saves Edit: nvm I found it if anyone has the same problem on the top of the you can see the path to the folder, go back to GTAIV go to profiles and click any folder you have there, for me it was some random numbers starting with 910 but it can probably be different in yours
Should I use the 2.1 version or the 1.7 of the downgrader as the 2.1 is way more complex and I had to reinstall my game after I tried to do it on the 2.1? Also do you have any plans of making a updated version of this with the 2.1 version?
You can use the 2.1 version very similarly to the way how I used the 1.9 (or 1.7) one in this video :) They should operate on synchronous levels. Are you enabling GFWL or no?
@@NotAJIt was because I was using the offline version that’s why but I’m still trying to get it to work as I’m having problems with it like when I load into the game it works for a few seconds then it crashes

i hate having to launch the damn game i paid for off-steam, will achievements even work? I shoud've just pirated it, this is a case where if i got a legit copy for free it would still not be worth it
I don't see how that'd take away the experience of being able to enjoy the game, regardless. If you want to mod the game without any issues, then this is the route to take. I can't say for sure if the Steam Achievements work, since I never tried it myself, but, according to others, it's working for them. For the price it's at right now, it's worth the cop. im playing on a fresh vanilla steam version and the downgrader forces me to select the executable file of IV, when I click next the yellow error M5 something appears telling me my version is modded. the only extra file it contains is my commandline txt file with one line of code that forces the game to display my real graphic card memory (my version is 1.2.0.5.9)
The yellow error code that appears saying that your copy may be corrupt or modded, especially if your game is vanilla (as it probably is), then you can just ignore it - I get the same one all the time.
I have some questions for you, can you really combine Liberty Rush, Potential Grim, and Liberty Tweaks?, to be honest i did not really play gta 4 for the past 8 months but i still know how to mod the game
Yes, you absolutely can. However, make sure to read the compatibility guide for Potential Grim and Liberty Rush. Those two mods contain conflicts, but the developers have provided instructions where you could easily avoid those problems.
@@NotAJ Okay so i read the compabilty guide and i must say, its pretty complicated but i did read it carefully so i know how to edit them now, but there is something i cant figure out, do i still need to download and apply the Liberty Rush FIRST before any mods?
I believe how it works is that you’d have to pretty much install Potential Grim, then follow it by installing the files from Liberty Rush. I think that’s what you have to do. It’s hard to remember if it’s invertible.

Okay, after long hours I have found a solution. Make sure the game isn't in the steam programs folder before you start the process. I'm not sure, but it worked for me. My new question is how to use windows live
Correct - moving your game to another location on the PC works effectively.

Does this delete all my saves tho? Bc i think it did delete all my saves
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Edit: Yes I do own the Steam version if anyone was wondering
What’s up, Mohammed. I’ve hardly heard of the issue. Are you launching through the “LaunchGTAIV.exe” or “PlayGTAIV.exe”, or are you launching the game through Steam? This makes all the difference in the world.
@@NotAJ The downgrader didn’t give me a “LaunchGTAIV.exe” file, I’ve tried multiple versions of the downgrader but none of them did. I launch the game through “PlayGTAIV.exe” because I know the game will auto-update if I use steam. Hi there! Thank you for the kind words! If you’ve downgraded, then I would consider getting LCPDFR 1.0d :)
If u guys are wondering what the intro music is, its gta 4 loading theme drums only
Correct! ❤️
Got it working after a couple of hiccups. for some reason the 1070 and the radio downgrade zip files wouldn't download, but reading the error page i fixed this by downloading them manually from the forums and redowngrading.
also weirdly it flagged my exe file as being modded even though it was as fresh an install as you could get. i have never played gta iv before and just got this from the rockstar launcher, i just ignored that and it seems fine.
finally i was getting to the loading screen with the cartoons of the characters and the music, but a few seconds in the game would crash. i fixed this by changing the PlayGTAIV exe to always run in administrator mode.
all working now, hope this helps someone :)
also, thanks @NotAJ for the superb guide. made it super easy
Thank you!!
Cheers mate, works like a charm
Glad to hear, my friend! Thanks for the feedback :)
Gonna run through the installer with my options to see if anyone can reproduce this:
- version 1.0.8.0
- No GFWL
- Sneed Radio, "Also install no EFLC music in IV fix" not selected + New Vladivostok
- ScriptHook for 1.0.8.0
- Simple Traffic Loader
- SteamAchievements
- xliveless (automatically selected)
- ZMenuIV v23.06.25.1
- ZolikaPatch v6.9.8.2
- Skipped file downgrading. Gotta make new saves for the mods I want to install anyways.
- Recommended Commandline, no optional -windowed box selected
- Exited installer WITHOUT pressing the Play GTA IV button. I don't trust it.
Looks like this worked. It looks like the major issue was the location of GTA IV while running the downgrader. Keeping this here if it helps anyone.

My friend, I did everything without no any errors, but when I enter the game, it stays on the black screen and suddenly finds a virus, what should I do?
and ı did it but ı cant login in they want product key xlive
BTW, the downgrader just got updated with the newest version of the patch, which should ultimately stop any issues (what the developer says).

I would recommend maybe moving your GTA IV folder to an area like "My Documents" to stop it from giving you problems. Let me know if that works.

yeah i fucking give up.

Likely the absence of ZolikaPatch, but that's fine! Do you have "LaunchGTAIV.exe"?

Sometimes the radio downgrade can take a while on your first attempt, it did for me. I had to give it maybe 15-20 minutes considering how slow my internet must’ve been. its not starting, please help when it launches it just doesnt show up
Did you launch GTA IV for the first time before downgrading? Try this and it might help.
im playing on a fresh vanilla steam version and the downgrader forces me to select the executable file of IV, when I click next the yellow error M5 something appears telling me my version is modded. the only extra file it contains is my commandline txt file with one line of code that forces the game to display my real graphic card memory (my version is 1.2.0.5.9)
The yellow error code that appears saying that your copy may be corrupt or modded, especially if your game is vanilla (as it probably is), then you can just ignore it - I get the same one all the time.

@@NotAJ thanks man, but i still have a problem on installing Potential Grim, what do i need to install? The IV folder, or the EFLC folder (which has an IV folder too)
The downgrader itself doesn't want to open, even when using administrator, and disabling the antivirus.
That is strange. Have you tried going into the developer's Discord to find out why this might be happening? I'd request for support.
@@NotAJ i already fix it
Good, good! What was the issue if you don’t mind me asking? This way I can tell others
@NotAJ Thanks for tutorial! It's really helpful, but can you try to make another tutorial on downgrading GTA IV The Complete Edition from Steam to version 1.0.8.0?
Hi there! Thank you for the kind words ❤️ This tutorial also works for those who want to downgrade from the Complete Edition to 1080 :)
Downgraded it perfectly played all the way up to about 40% played the ULP mission where you kill the dude before you get info on the dude nico wants to kill then the game freezes and the previous save file is corrupted sucks that there always has to be something.
Hey there, so sorry to hear about your unfortunate situation with the save game. Did you start the save on this downgraded copy, or did you start it on the complete edition?
hey can you hyelp me, before i downgrade to 1.0.7.0 my vram detect 6GB of my vram which is true, but after i downgrade it, it only shows 2047 and commandline doesn't even work, i try to add the commandline on the shortcut but still doesn't work, can you help me with this?
pls tell me u found a solution
Works just fine, just did it :) Thanks for the tutorial !
AWESOME!! 😎 No problem, my friend! Thanks for the feedback!
It works for me, but I can't save the game, what do I have to do?
Is it trying to have you do something with Games for Windows Live?
@@NotAJ yes
when i downgraded my gta 4, im no longer able to use dxvk because everytime i launch gta 4 it immediately crashes. Is there any fix to this or this is how its supposed to be
That’s so odd. Depends. What version did you downgrade to? This shouldn’t be happening. Is your graphics card DVXK compatible?
@@NotAJ i have a gt 710 gpu
@@pundyes did you find any fix?
Great Video!
Yeah install asi loader, maybe the mod you are using is a ".asi" and it absolutely needs a asi loader
Thank you again, OtterGaming :)
