17:40 Since Tropic Woods was cut for time, especially since Forgotten Land is so recent, allow me to tell you about this monstrous palm tree. This guy swaps the usual apples for giant exploding coconuts and in it’s second phase it resorts to using a fence as a shield and summoning massive roots to try and skewer you. Overall it’s a pretty fun fight and one of the Waddle Dee challenges requires you to beat it without a copy ability.

    • @bluestreaker9242
      @bluestreaker9242 2 года назад +10

And for added bonus, the Phantom fight in the Isolated Isles post-game adds in roots you NEED to climb over to avoid the WALL of air he puffs out, and those fences he summons right out the gate and bounces Gordos around them all. DAMN Kirby transitioned gracefully in to 3D! Funny to think we ALMOST got something like this back on the Gamecube; I think the scrapped development also transitioned in to Air Ride and Morpho Knight's debut from Star Allies was originally going to be this cancelled Gamecube title, iirc, and the EX version of the mecha boss you fight in Egg Engines in Return to Dream Land was the recycled DeDeDe Mecha you were meant to fight in the cancelled Gamecube title. :D

I do like how Exdeath's "erasing existence" motivation involves erasing himself as well since to him, the cosmic state of zero is just what he considers to be natural, and that everything else has run its course. Technically, he's not even evil; He just operates on a really alien "morality", if you can even call it that.

Officially Marluxia's element is "Flowers". Which is an evil counterpart to the player's Leaf element. Or the Cure Spells. (Ablities like Leaf Bracer work with cure and the card for Cure in CoM has a Leaf on it).
Marluxia's death and Doom suddenly make alot more sense when you realize the game's nature element heals. He's just inverting it. (And the gives the scythe a double meaning)

It must be a law of video games to have an area boss that is tied to nature in someway, shape or form.

Whispy was the obvious choice for a Kirby boss but if we count phase 1 and phase 2 as seperate entries, Queen Sectonia merged with the Dreamstalk was a good plant based final boss. She had a lot of clever plant attack and the fact that you need to hit the little flower blooms sprouting out of her vines was clever. Another month, another boss countdown. And personally I found plenty of nature bosses but few of them are good (mostly because a bunch of them are first bosses).
    10. One of the more recent candidates I found out and yeah he does relish in his one-dimensional villainy. But that's what makes him charming.
    9. A male whip wielder. You don't see those every day. Just ask the green scorpion.
    8. Finally this game gets talked about in a countdown! It combines the first two games in a way I find charming.
    7. No surprise this guy got in considering he's on the thumbnail
    6. Been a while since a boss from this series made the list. The last I saw one was the puffstool from GS's poison wielders list
    5. The worst of the worst bosses in this series according to GS... shows how great the bosses are.
    4. Dang loopholes bringing one of the best scythe wielders into this list...
    3. Nice phoenix wright bit at the start. Co-insides with Ari's first solo outing on the channel.
    2. Yep pretty much the definition of the term nature boss also appreciate mentioning tropic woods from forgotten land

Josh is definitely showing his Kingdom Hearts bias in this video with how high Marluxia is. Both the Zelda and Pikmin entries have a far more engrained nature identity. Especially Quaggled Mireclops, which has an impressively intricate design for essentially being a nature Talus. Really wish he was higher on the list because a lot of entries feel very tangential. Not that that's terrible just that I'd prefer the bosses with an indirect relationship like Marluxia or even Grovyle to stay on the bottom half of the list

      @devonm042690 2 года назад +6

Yeah, I mean Marluxia's element isn't even nature. It's death. Heck, that 'level becomes hit points' gimmick Josh described was just how Marluxia's Doom spell was made to work in that fight. The fact that the timed Doom spell from the Re:Mind data fight is initiated in the same way; with Marluxia flash stepping to Sora's side and whispering cursed words in his ear, is proof enough of that, assuming to don't just connect the dots with how it works.

@@devonm042690 You COULD argue somewhat that since his element is death, and the Cherry Blossoms he uses are a natural metaphor for the natural cycles of life and death in nature, he has a nature angle...and in KH Days, his element is literally labeled "Flowers", so you could say he has nature powers...though TBH, Lexaeus'd probably fit more due to his earth ability...
I'm so not defending that he's high, I agree that he doesn't really have any reason to be on that list if we were to argue that his power isn't even nature, but maybe he just put him higher since his fight is more fun? My Honorable Mention would have to be Echidna from DMC4. A flower/snake/dragon/demon that had turned a mountain range and ruins into a forest for her little chimera seedlings also manages to put up a rather impressive fight for the two devil hunters that run into her. By firing her chimera seeds at you, trying to violently whip and impale you with her tendrils when rooted, strike you with her pedal like crown(?), or just straight up try to eat you, she shows you how much of a bitch mother nature can be.

Nettori from Metroid Fusion is an interesting nature boss. The context is that as Samus is heading back to her ship for an update from her CO, the power goes out in the middle of taking an elevator. Samus has to escape by traveling through the underbelly of the BSL Station's main sector. She finds that the main reactor is being choked by vines going out of control. With only auxiliary power running and none of the doors working, Samus has to take a new entrance to Sector 2, where the vines are coming from. After getting past the hardest SA-X chase in the game Samus is able to literally fall into Nettori's chamber, and sees that it's a Chozo Statue that's been overtaken in vines. Nettori is basically an upgraded Spore Spawn from Super Metroid where there is little room to stand on and you constantly have to move around to not get hit by projectiles spewed out by plants on the ceiling. You also have to be careful not to fall into the giant man eating flowers. Once Samus deals enough damage to Nettori the Chozo Statues head will fall off and shoot Plasma Beams at you. Destroying the Chozo Statue completely causes the Beam Core-X to reveal itself, allowing Samus to get the Plasma Beam after its defeat. Now with that done and over with, the vines choking the main reactor are all gone and Samus can get back to business, now armed with the weapon necessary to finally damage the SA-X.

    Honorable Mentions:
The Thorian (Mass Effect)- A massive psychic alien genius loci that is tens of thousands of years old and uses mind controlled thralls and plant matter zombies to defend itself. Yes Shepard, you need bigger guns.
Grendel (Skies of Arcadia)- while technically an ancient magitech golem superweapon, it is nonetheless empowered by the Green Moon Crystal, from the Green Moon, which is infused with the power of natural growth. Plus, fighting this thing in your airship *The Little Jack* is hella fun.
Tret Tree of Kolima Forest (Golden Sun)- this boss is literally an ENTIRE dungeon that you have to trek through before finally confronting his corrupted heart and freeing him from his torment, only to be horrified that he will die without a healing water from the far north land of Imil. Man, the Great Deku Tree set a precedence.
Danika (Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber)- it's a stretch to call the Goddess of the Netherworld a nature boss, but she is literally fused to a Hell Tree with two frustrating attack spitting dekubaba-wannabe bastards during combat. This boss will require multiple battles during her Stage, if you haven't built up your army (or used the item duplication exploit *shh no judgement* ).

Arborick. A walking tree that chucks your fire back at you if you don't light every segment of his body on fire quick enough. The trajectory of your shots depend on your position and how charged your fire balls are. His feet are stumps attached to vine legs and boy can they stretch far!

Mr. Vegetable from Galgun Double Peace is a very fun battle that also teaches the player how to use several mechanics for both the late stages and future playthroughs. The boss is invulnerable on the outside, but the Zoom function can let you both see and shoot through several objects, which lets you peek inside him. That way, you can locate both his weak point and the hostage. After you shoot the weak point enough times, you get closer to it and it starts attacking you using tentacles. You need to shoot their weak point to get rid of them and make sure you don't shoot the hostage or you'll receive a lower stage clear bonus. Hit enough tentacles and the fight moves goes back to phase 1, except there will be more than one Mr. Vegetable. Now the Zoom function also helps you locate your real target, as all the others have counterfeits inside them.
In hindsight, this fight serves to show you how to obtain the God rank. You need to make sure you don't miss shots, always target the weak points of all your foes and make sure to not underestimate the importance of zooming in.

2:18 Reminds me of this priceless moment from Ninjago: "The Great Devourer will consume everything!" "Won't that mean it will devour you too?" [Serpentine blinks and understands] "You have to stop him! That snake is crazy! I don't want to awaken the Great Devourer! I'm a snake, not food!"
Surprisingly, Kid Icarus Uprising hasn't had a boss with this attribute among the Forces of Nature. That would be because they avoided having Viridi as a boss fight, but it's still weird that there wasn't a Nature-themed boss fight.

A top 10 list of "Bosses with the least threatening names" could be fun. My personal nomination? Dandelion from the PS2 action-role-playing game Steambot Chronicles. Despite such a cheerful-sounding name, the man is anything but. The former band leader and instrument maker has spent years of his life amassing a secret army with the singular intent of destroying the entire world and ushering in one that doesn't rely on machines, all to avenge his dead brother whose accidental death was caused by a prank that went too far.

Actually, the Arkhamverse never really went full-force into her backstory. Isley isn't just a powerful ecoterrorist focusing on the plants. She's one of the Avatars of the Green- the world's plants as a whole. Included in this is one Alec Holland, aka Swamp Thing, as well as Jason Woodrue, the being responsible for her current state, and a dryad from another universe who calls himself The Floronic Man. But while Woodrue is hellbent on destroying mankind, Isley has been a bit more...mellow half the time. Hell, during the No Man's Land event (Where First a strain of Ebola killed of half Gotham's population, and a massive Earthquake killed half the rest, followed by a rocker pushing Gotham to be sealed off from the rest of the world aka the bridges blown), she actually helped several orphans in her garden, protecting them from the other rogues. She's less evil, more chaotic neutral.

As much as this list was about plants, Regal Ancestor Spirit from Elden Ring is also a great contender for the animal side of nature. In a world that has knights, dragons and corrupted tree serpents as bosses, here's this elk boss that you have to go out of your way to fight. No randomly stumbling upon it, you go to it. The fight itself really isn't that hard, in fact its probably one of the easiest for the level you're likely to be when you stumble across it. But the sheer atmosphere of it all makes it worth remembering. The soundtrack, the arena, the theme of life and death. Even using the various animal spirits it summons to heal itself. And it stands out a lot more than Elden Ring's other nature-themed bosses, the Erdtree Avatars.

Fear Mother Nature. She allowed us to live, but she is unforgiving. Also, changing up the style a bit by putting the name at the beginning of the entry rather than at the end. I kinda like it.
10: Interesting choice to start this list off. (Exdeath (Final Fantasy V))
9: Robotid plants. Not something you see every day. (Axol the Red (Mega Man X5))
8: Feed me, Seymor! ...I am sorry. (Dr. Potter (Luigi's Mansion 3))
7: Gotta agree with that soundtrack. I mean, Sakurai decided that out of all of the songs from Cuphead, which has a great soundtrack, Floral Fury was the one that got into Smash Bros with the Cuphead costume. (Cagney Carnation (Cuphead))
6: Of COURSE a Pikmin boss made it onto this list. (Quaggled Mireclops (Pikmin 3))
5: I see the point with Diababa. Still, I grew up with Twilight Princess, so it's nice to see that he was at least considered. (Kalle Demos (Zelda Wind Waker))
4: Josh is going to run out of bosses from Kingdom Hearts eventually. (Marluxia (Kingdom Hearts 2))
3: I mean, how is it that Pokemon Mystery Dungeons hasn't been on most of your lists until now if you find it underappreciated? You're part of the problem, Josh! Also, props for avoiding spoilers. (Grovyle (Mystery Dungeon Explorers)
2: Having not played many Kirby games, I forgot this guy existed. Shame on me. (Whispy Woods (Kirby))
1: Poison Ivy is definitely one of the best characters in Batman's rogue's gallery, especially lately since deciding that Harley was going to be an antihero instead of just Joker's sidekick. (Poison Ivy (Batman Arkham Asylum))
