Since we don't know for sure about pain, wouldn't it be nice to err on the side of caution so we don't needlessly inflict suffering on a sentient creature? You know, the kind of consideration you'd want an advanced alien species to afford to you, one that views you not much different than you view the lobster.
Sure they can do whatever they want. The point isn't what they can do but rather what they should do... from an empathetic and humane standpoint (and I don't think they're intentionally being cruel, they just need some guidance dealing w/ the animal...plus a bigger tank, so what's the problem?).

@0ni & potatoes Y'all like any meat, those are creatures as well, you ever step on a bug or purposely kill them, those are creatures. The lobsters are iced so their metabolism is slowed, and so any feeling of discomfort is stopped as well, even if they are creatures.

I was so happy when he said he was keeping it as a pet. Lobsters are incredible creatures that can live virtually forever, if properly cared for. However at the very end of the video, he says he’s going to eat it, and my heart dropped. Personally, I’d love to be able to afford to take care of a massive lobster for the rest of my life. As it ages, it’s grows bigger and stronger and it would be incredible to raise the world’s largest lobster for future generations to admire.

If you haven't seen it yet google Leon the Lobster...this guy (knows all about saltwater creatures) bought one from a sea food or grocery store and gave it a home. Amazing to watch (14 M views in 3 months)...the bands did damage to the claws but you watch how it heals over time (and how Leon loves cleaning and decorating his home... only likes shells on the right side of tank lol).
