    I own the SBDB009 which is the model before this. exactly the same but with a engraved S logo on the crown. only made for about a year. pretty rare piece. Mine keeps about +1 second a month. accuracy is mind blowing. had it for quite a few years now and has not deviated from that accuracy. One of my fav. in the collection. such a cool and unique time piece. Although it does not say Grand Seiko on the dial, these or atleast earlier ones were made in the Grand Seiko factory by Grand Seiko artisans. Only reason I'm told that it does not have the Grand Seiko logo is that it's a saturation diver and it had to be in the Marine Master line up. does feature slightly less decorated sprig drive movement but it's closed back so who cares? Wonderful watch. Spring drive tuna as a whole is now discontinued from what I understand so expect prices to slowly creep up on these. if you are on the fence and see one come up for sale, I'd say grab it. Very unique time piece that you will fall in love deeper each time you wear it. oh it has very fine vertical hand brushing on the shroud that looks killer and zaratsu polishing on top and bottom of the shroud. The shroud itself looks like dyed metal instead of coating. very unique look. can't say enough nice things about it. also, I have a 6.25-6.5" wrist. fits me fine. no over hang due to lugless design. it's a big watch but fits more like a 47-48mm lug to lug end watch.

    3:17 There are no ticks, at all, on the seconds hand of a Spring Drive movement. It imperceptibly speeds up and slows down to track the quartz reference, but there are no stops and starts, no ticks, no steps, no beats. Just smooth sweeping.

    I've always loved the spring drive movement and was always a "to get" for me. I've debated between this and a Snowflake.
    I have very large wrists so the case diameter of this isn't a problem but 18mm is a pain with shirts and jackets. Limits the daily wear a bit.

    I have only seen the spring drive on a Grand Seiko and what that watch goes for 3500 USD, I think you are getting close to Grand Seiko with the Spring drive price. I have not kept up with prices, it might be a little more. That watch is huge and I don't like thick watches. Love the design of the watch minus the thickness. Thanks for sharing it.

    Could someone tell us how accurate the Spring Drive technology is compared to the best mechanical Swiss and German movements have to offer? If quartz is able to regulate a mechanical, the dream would be to have it sync to an atomic clock and you have the perfect forever mechanical watch.

    • @rsrs8632
      @rsrs8632 5 лет назад

      The best mechanical watches are the COSC certified (like Rolex), and have to be within +6 and -4 a day. Spring drive is standard Quartz which is +15 and -15 a month. HAQ watches are usually within 20 seconds a year, and the current most accurate watches are citizen caliber 0100 with 1 second a year (and this is without setting to a radio wave).
      There are radio wave controlled watches, which automaticly adjust their time. But this is not for mechanical or spring drive watches.

    • @markvincentcocjin
      @markvincentcocjin 5 лет назад

      @@rsrs8632 That would make the spring-drive Grand Seiko the most accurate mechanical (albeit hybrid) watch in the world. It falls simply into the mechanical-powered watch as it's the spring that's powering the entire watch system from movement to regulation.

    • @rsrs8632
      @rsrs8632 5 лет назад +1

      It depends of definition. If 'mechanical' means no electronics or electricity, than spring drive is not a mechanical watch by that definition. If it means no electrical power source than it is a mechanical watch. For me it is mechanical because the movement of the hands is not done by electricity. Purly mechanical magic without the escapment. It makes the seconds hand 100 percent smooth and a joy to watch.

    Trending toward smaller watches? When? Everything I've seen the past 10-15 years is trending bigger. Dress watches that are 40-41mm when they shouldn't be any more than 38 max. Dive watches at 44 or bust (or "42" that wears like a 44). The sub-40mm watch offerings are thin on the ground unless I'm missing something.

      Actually I think you're wrong. The spring drive is a true smooth sweeping seconds hand unlike the Bulova movements which move at 16 bps. I think it's the only movement that does so but I could be wrong.

    Sorry to bring in negativity, but I'm very unimpressed with what seiko and grand seiko has been doing lately. They have tightened their grip around JDM watches(the whole idea of JDM is horrible) and make redicilous pricing and design decision recently.
