@@USCFlash In my opinion a movie isnt measured by some "magical objective standards" , but what the movie WANTS to be. And this movie didnt wanted to go deep into some sort of metaphysics about afterlife, or any philosophical topics. Thats why Whoopy Goldberg plays literally a caricature of a spiritual person. Thats why the subway-ghost is a caricature. Thats why Sam and Molly have a cliche relationship,... thats why Carl is a one-dimensional villain, without any character arc (the only somehow characterarc in the movie is Molly). All those things and more - as much they could be strawmanned by you, are a well written balance of all of its elements, which on a popcorn-movie-level can definetely entertain or even move the audience, as you not only see on its sucess (yes i know, thats not per se a sign of a good movie), but also from reactions, and yes - also in my family everyone liked that movie. On the other hand, you also could say me your favorite movies, and i am sure, with the same attitude, i could rip them apart - because everything can be explained as bad if someone wants. So in the end, like i said: the value of a movie should be measured in: what it wants to be, and how much it achieves it. I also disagree, that the actors acted badly. They were just caricaturized - thats a different thing. And in my opinion it served the entity the movie wanted to be. Thats it. Its also because the movie wanted to be entertainment and understandable for children, as well as for adults. Thats a lot to handle. And as i said - in that sense, it succeded, in my opinion. Because you said : Whoopy did only this good in a artistically sense.. mh... what about her first movie, which got an oscar ? Also bad ?
Not only is the pottery scene a parody of this movie, one of the Zucker Brothers (the guys who made the Naked Gun movies) directed this movie, and then spoofed their own scene 😂
AYKSHULLY, David Zucker was the only one of the ZAZ team that returned for Naked Gun 2 1/2, Jerry Zucker (who made Ghost) and Jim Abrahams didn't actually touch the script. So it's more like banter between brothers, which I feel is funnier.
If you liked Whoopi Goldberg's character in this, you'll probably also like her in Sister Act, a hit 1992 comedy. Instead of pretending to be a spiritual advisor, she pretends to be a nun, which is as funny as it sounds. Along with Ghost, it's one of her most popular roles.
Hi Kacee, When this movie came out, it was huge! Whoopi won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Ghost. It was nominated for several Oscars, including Best Picture. Jerry Zucker directed Ghost. He had a really hard time trying to get this movie made. He shopped it all over Hollywood and no one was interested. He was so closely associated with Airplane! and The Naked Gun that the studios didn't think he could pull it off, that he was first and foremost a comedy director. Finally, Paramount gave him a chance. The rest is history. Definitely watch Overboard (not the remake). It's a good one.
There's a few times Swayze had to quickly face away from the camera to hide his laugh. Whoopi Goldberg said he wanted her to play the spiritual advisor role the most.
The Oda Mae at the bank scene is everything! Her outfit, her nervousness, over explaining and embellishing, right up to her storming off down the street. So good.
It’s funny bt it makes no sense. Why wouldn’t sam fill her in on the plan and coach her on what to say beforehand so she doesn’t risk blowing it and giving herself away?
RIP, Patrick Swayze. 1952-2009. Nominated for 5 Oscars including Best Picture but won for Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress, Whoopi Goldberg.
So, the story goes that the producers managed to get Swayze (their first choice) for the role of Sam Wheat. For those of us around at the time it didn't take a massive stretch of the imagination to spot that the role of Oda Mae was practically written for Whoopi. Nevertheless the senior studio suits pushed back on the idea and insisted on auditions, specifically insisting that Whoopi wasn't right for the role because they claimed that the audience would see Whoopi being herself and not Oda Mae Brown. Apparently at this point, Swayze cottoned onto what they were up to and told them in no uncertain terms that if Whoopi wasn't given a chance to be cast in the role, he'd walk from the project on the spot. As Whoopi put it later : "And thanks to Patrick, I have an Oscar".
Yeah, it's no secret Swayze wanted Goldberg for this role... Glad it all worked out. Sometimes producers need to trust artist to help with choosing cast mates. We get it producers have a HUGE stake in making sure the film they work on succeeds. Sometimes it's just an actor saying "hey...I really want to work with this person.. I've seen their work... they would be great for this project..."

My older sister used to watch this movie so much when I was a kid, and my only memory of it was being scared of the ghosts that show up at end of the movie to pull the villain down to hell. Seeing it now is laughable, but as a kid that terrified me.
The 1990 film “Ghost” was directed by Jerry Zucker When Bruce Joel Rubin the writer of this story heard that Zucker was going to direct it he said he almost cried because Zucker (along with his brother David Zucker and Jim Abrahams) were known for films such as “Airplane!”, “Top Secret”, and the Naked Gun film series, and Rubin assumed that Zucker was going to turn his narrative into a zany story.
But it turns out she actually wasn’t in danger. The bad guys didn’t want to kill Molly. They wanted Sam’s password to the account. It would have been a good movie if Molly actually was in danger
There’s no whodunit. Every reaction video I’ve watched all know it’s Carl, about five seconds after Sam is shot. The audience is way ahead of Sam on figuring this one out
Definitely do Overboard! You won't be disappointed. Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn in their prime - it's funny, heart-warming, and makes you feel all the feels. SEE IT!
I never realized how annoying it is for someone to try and guess the plot of a movie all the way through, especially considering it's over 30 years old and you've probably seen it and multiple references to it, even if you don't remember
Gotta say, if I were to suggest a movie, it would be One Crazy Summer. That movie was so much fun for me as a kid. Has Demi Moore in it too, that's why it popped into my head.
2 problems with this movie... She could have identified Willy Lopez. Anonymous tip, line-up, that's him! Bam! Secondly, all Sam did was tell Odamay to tell her "secrets".... never thought to say, "Ask me anything. Instead of me saying things I might find a way to find out. So ask ME the questions so I can't pre-plan my responses."
More problems with the film. 3.Molly wasn’t actually in danger. The bad guys didn’t want to kill Molly. They just want Sam’s password. Not exactly high stakes. Molly is in danger toward the end of the film, but the only reason was in danger was BECAUSE of Sam. He taunted Carl at the bank causing Carl to figure out what happened to the money. 4.After Sam learns how to move things, he can beat the hell out of the bad guys, so why does he allow the bad guys to do anything from that point forward. For example, why does sam even allow carl to go to oda mae’s apartment, when he could just beat carl into unconsciousness. 5.Sam was a fornicator, shackling up with a woman he wasn’t married to and would have gone to hell too. The movie could have at least been consistent with their theology. 5.Sam and Molly didn’t have much time for a relationship. And I’m not even sure Sam loved molly. He never said he loved her and wasn’t even sure he wanted to commit to her by marrying her. Whoopi and Patrick had better chemistry than Patrick and Demi. 6.how did Carl think he was gonna get away with everything without Sam dead? Did he not think Sam woulda just changes his password after getting his wallet stolen? 7.why didn’t Sam tell oda Mae the plan, coach her on what to say before they went to the bank? I get that oda Mae’s antics are funny and it’s an entertaining scene, but it defies logic. Why risk blowing your child ver with your antics.
8.Why does Sam need to use Whoopi’s body to touch Molly again? Sam can lift Pennie’s, move objects, beat the crap out of the villains etc. just touch Molly already! (Of course the real reaso. Is the plot called for Sam to be tired when Carl showed up)
I don’t think Molly ruined everything. Sam ruined everything by taunting Carl at the bank. If he didn’t taunt Carl, Carl would have no reason to ask Molly about oda Mae to begin with. Sam gave Carl a reason to figure out what really happened to the account
I think Demi Moore is such an underrated actress. She’s so talented, extremely beautiful, and that raspy voice does something to the senses. This was a perfect cast.

MOONSTRUCK... heavier on romance, good on comedy. OVERBOARD is a goodie, too. If you get forced into action films, consider the Bruce Willis RED and RED2 films can be enjoyment. ROMANCING THE STONE and it's sequel JEWEL OF THE NILE (Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner). If you want drama, consider Kathleen Turner's great murder mystery BODY HEAT with William Hurt, Ted "Cheers" Danson, and Richard "The Real McCoys" Crenna. Or William Hurt's two powerhouse films, CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD and THE DOCTOR. Or dial back in time and see one of the earliest films about "PTSD" - which are WWI was called "shellshock" with Ronald Colman as the hapless victim only to be rescued by beautiful Greer Garson... that's RANDOM HARVEST. Such a shame that the silly parody in Naked Gun ruined the pottery scene for you. 😢🤷♂️😂 But for the majority of fans of this movie who DIDN'T see that satire, it is still considered one of the sexiest and romantic PG scenes in cinema. Every mow and then, a truly unique idea for a film comes along. Until this point, ghosts were far more associated with the horror/supernatural genre. Stories were usually tied to haunted houses, burial grounds, and other tropes that were part of pop culture. This film took a different approach & redefined the topic a bit. Not only that, it packaged it up in a love story, while also attaching it to a mystery/thriller story. It also has a good amount of action, towards the end. I am glad you finally got to see this - not only for its Naked Gun relevance, but also for its place in 90's culture. That scene redefined the boundaries of love scenes, and for its time, it became a standard for 90's love stories. That's one reason, the scene made it into the Naked Gun movie. For other films contemporary to this one, you might also like Beetlejuice and The Abyss, if you haven't seen those already.
Patrick Swayze would not do this movie unless they got Whoopi Goldberg to play Oda Mae Brown. I like 'Overboard', but I really wish someone would watch 'French Kiss' which is my favourite romcom.

19:51 Didn't somebody steal his stapler?
Lol yep. That’s Stephen root aka Milton
"You in danger, girl" Such an epic quote
But it turns out she actually wasn’t in danger. The bad guys didn’t want to kill Molly. They wanted Sam’s password to the account. It would have been a good movie if Molly actually was in danger
One of my mom’s favourite movie. It’s a romance movie, but also a ghost movie, with a smidge of “whodunnit”
There’s no whodunit. Every reaction video I’ve watched all know it’s Carl, about five seconds after Sam is shot. The audience is way ahead of Sam on figuring this one out
A -glass- thermos of wine is absolutely appropriate for this movie.
😂
Definitely do Overboard! You won't be disappointed. Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn in their prime - it's funny, heart-warming, and makes you feel all the feels. SEE IT!
Hey so while you're in your 80s era, check out _Roxanne_ (1987) with Steve Martin. It's maaaaybe 25% romance, 75% comedy. Very 80s.
Masterpiece ever.
Has Demi Moore in it too, that's why it popped into my head.
the shadows that drag you off to hell always kind of freaked me out with the noises they make. Overboard is a great movie. You'll love it.
This movie is so great!! Overboard should be next!!
Wonderful reaction to a wonderful movie. Suggest another Drama-Romance-Sci-Fi........Forever Young - 1992 {Mel Gibson}
Yes, watch "Overboard". Fantastic comedy.
Yes absolutely Overboard👍🏽 also another solid Demi movie G.I. Jane
Yep good points. This film also has a lot more problems than just those two
More problems with the film.
Is the plot called for Sam to be tired when Carl showed up)
I didn't see "The Sixth Sense" in your backlog of reactions. If you liked "Ghost," you'll love "The Sixth Sense."
Willies HELP MEEEEEEE. Holy hell. Channing Tatum may be remaking this
For comedy and romance, try "There's Something About Mary".
Another classic movie. OVERBOARD is a great movie as well, I highly recommend it!
How 'bout some classics? Casablanca (1941), the original King Kong (1933), Wizard of Oz (1939), and Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)...
Could have typed her an email!!! In 1990! LOLOL!!
I don’t think Molly ruined everything. Sam ruined everything by taunting Carl at the bank. If he didn’t taunt Carl, Carl would have no reason to ask Molly about oda Mae to begin with. Sam gave Carl a reason to figure out what really happened to the account
Patrick actually said he wouldn't do the movie without Whoopi
I think Demi Moore is such an underrated actress. She’s so talented, extremely beautiful, and that raspy voice does something to the senses. This was a perfect cast.
It's the presevatives in the wine. My sister in law gets migranes. You can buy drops to neutralise the preservatives. No more headaches or migranes
For romantic movies:"The Way We Were", "Somewhere in Time" , "Jane Eyre" (2011 version) and a partly romantic movie, "The Count of Monte Christo (2002 version).
60s 80s 90s
Romance movies:
The Far Pavilions (Omar sharif)
The Yellow Rolls Royce (Ingrid Bergman)
Pride and Prejudice (Colin Firth version only please)
Dr Zhivago (Omar sharif)
Rom com:
Working Girl (Harrison ford)
Hawks (Timothy Dalton)
Donovan Quick (Colin Firth)
Baby Boom
Not the same, but you'd enjoy The Kingdom. It's similar to sicario.
21:07 Not that I'm on Carl's side, but not sure taking off your shirt then telling Molly to think about her just-deceased fiance has the effect he seemed to think it would..
That cop got kicked off the force, went crazy, changed his name to Milton, and went to work for Bill Lumbergh
I LOVE Vincent Sciavelli.
So sad he's gone.
I would LOVE for you to react to Overboard please! Great reaction 😊
DEFINITEY watch Overboard. Also, I do love Ghost- some of the romance is super corny, but you’re right about the chemistry between Whoopi and Patrick Swayze. So good, so funny.
If you want to see Patrick Swayze in all his glory I recommend ROAD HOUSE, and of coarse there is DIRTY DANCING
Yes, I think you would really enjoy Overboard!
Hidden gems: Next Of Kin, Breakdown, Fallen, Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World and Renaissance Man (Danny Devito owned that), Seven Pounds, Gone Baby Gone and Powder!
Bring kleenex and the joy for happy endings.
A really great paranormal comedy is "Oh Heavenly Dog" with Chevy Chase and Jane Seymour. Or "Heaven Can Wait" with Warren Beatty.
1. Whoopie is an awesome actress however, her politics/The view is troublesome and makes my IQ drop.,
2. Vincent Schiavelli/subway ghost also played Fredrickson in "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest" and Mr. Vargus in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High".
3."They're gonna bury you next to Jimmy Hoffa"🤣😈
4. re Carl: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
5. An overlooked movie not already mentioned for Swayze is the original "Red Dawn". HINT HINT
You might like a movie called: Defending your life 1991, its a similar style movie.
Someone needs to watch the movie The rookie 1990 a great comedy action movie...
I REST IN PEACE for Willie and Carl eh? What kind of eulogy would they get i always wonder
Amazing choice for a movie, so fun! There’s a really fun older action movie I think y’all would enjoy called Executive Decision. Check it out! Stars Kurt Russell, John Leguizamo and Halle Berry
I really like your show. I have a request . It's an old movie but a good old Americana. "Any Which Way You Can" with Clint Eastwood
Definitely watch overboard.
Such a shame that the silly parody in Naked Gun ruined the pottery scene for you.
😢🤷♂️😂
But for the majority of fans of this movie who DIDN'T see that satire, it is still considered one of the sexiest and romantic PG scenes in cinema. Two scantily clad beautiful people in a beautiful apartment making messy, gentle, kissy foreplay to the Righteous brothers' Unchained melody!?!? C'mon!
😆😜
Not to emotionally dox my Dad BUT, he always had a huge crush on Demi Moore and LOVED the Righteous Brothers from day dot. So this scene floored him when he saw it in cinemas, and still makes the old bugga tear-up (and I assume "fire" up... 😶😖).

I have a movie recommendation you should do. It's the 1985 movie, _"The Legend Of Billie Jean"._ Starring Helen Slater and a 15 year old Christian Slater(No relation to Helen Slater). This movie was the debut breakout movie for Christian Slater.
I never considered it a romance movie… more of a supernatural whodunnit… and I always found it to be an incredibly sad movie with a sad ending
