JOHNNY THUNDERS is a legend. This film was made with cooperations of the Heartbreakers over a period of more than 40 years. It begins with a terrific performance at Max's Kansas in 1979. With various performances in between, it climaxes with their final performance at CBGBs in 1983 and a solo performance at Paul Tschinkel's studio in SOHO. It is an exciting and revealing film that showcases Johnny's talents as a performer and talent as creative artist.
Much neglected, he is heralded and revered by millions of loyal followers. This is for you.

As someone younger who got into Johnny thunders… had nothing to do with his persona. It was the music. I didn’t know anything about him for the first 6 months I was listening to his work like New York dolls, LAMF, So Alone.
Me too, first time I heard him was on a mix tape. The song was Chinese rocks and it was my introduction. I actually thought Walter was Johnny thunders at first I had no clue. My favourite band. All of them together made some a great album and Johnny thunders in all various incarnations always got my attention. He was the best. Such a shame he died so young. 😢

Sometimes he mumbles. Or worse just talks the lyrics .
And I love it. He's got more catchy tunes than anybody who would make great r&r right now, except for the Stones maybe.

Punk? Not sure about that. It's certainly not a label he put on himself. He thought of himself a as an R and B musician from the interviews I've read. Entertainer, clown, junkie, car crash, glorious mess but he sure could fuckin play guitar..

Jello, - I filmed them at IRVING PLAZA in NYC. It was interesting but not as talented as JOHNNY, He didn't even play a guitar or sing well. Sorry. Perhaps I should put them up and compare them.
