A Johnny Thunders Horror Movie? Weird, but what ever, I have a feeling that Johnny will become increasingly more of a legend as the years pass than when he was alive. I saw Johnny half a dozen times when he was still around and most people didn't give a shit about him and now everybody says they a "big fan". It all seems a little late but a Johnny Thunders Movie is better than a Motley Crue Movie any day.

I lived in New Orleans when Johnny Thunders arrived, played one show, and promptly died in a small hotel on a side street in the French Quarter. I worked with a guy who went to the show, and - despite the fact that thousands of punks and junkies claimed to have been at that show, he told me there were 40 people in the audience, tops. And the incredible number of liars - I mean "storytellers" - that claimed to have either been in the room with Thunders that evening, plus the hundreds that told me "they were there when Johnny's body was removed from the hotel," - well, those people are flat-out fabricators. The only person who I believe DID, in fact, witness Johnny's corpse being taken from the building was Willy DeVille, who lived across the street from the hotel. He said he saw the body (which he claimed was in the rigor mortis phase, and 'shaped like a U inside the body bag'), and walked over to see if it was anyone he knew who had expired. The attendant said, "I don't know - some musician, Johnny Thunders," to which Willy said, "Oh, shit!" and made a few phone calls. Even this story is to be taken with a grain of salt. Everybody wants to be a part of something bigger - but, as my father once said about all the people who claimed to have 'been at Woodstock' - "Bullshit. Somebody had to stay home and pump gas or bag groceries..." Que Sera, Sera.

He didn't do a show in New Orleans in 1991. Just because he appaerantly did a show in this movie, doesn't mean it happened in real life. And I know for sure that he didn't perform in New Orleans in 1991. And what you say about Willy Deville everybody who saw the terrible Lech Kowalski documentary Born to Lose already knew that.

@@richardleeuwenburg9093 Wow... aren't you just the little book of facts. If I had claimed that I had been to the show, then I could understand your pomposity. I haven't seen the 'terrible Lech Kowalski' film, so I'm terribly sorry if I repeated a story you've already heard. Nor did I learn that he had "appaerantly" (!) done a show in New Orleans from this movie - but if you know 'for sure' that this didn't happen, who am I to argue with such an eloquent and knowledgeable key-board warrior such as yourself?

@@GraveyardDave Thanks for fhe compliment👍Except I am not a keyboardwarrior, those people usually don't use their own name to troll around the internet with bullshit stories. And if he really did perform in New Orleans shortly before he died isn't it weird that nobody ever mentioned that like in that terrible Lech Kowalski documentary or in that excellent documentary Looking for Johnny. In all those years you are the first one who came up with that story. Not even people who knew him very well like bandmembers or relatives have never heard of such a thing.

I Just watched this on Amazon. I was REALLY excited and then pretty let down. I'm a Dolls And Johnny Thunders fan. I've never met or had the privilege of seeing these guys in person, But.. grew up listening to the Dolls and Johnny's other music because, my uncle was a friend and roadie of theirs back in the day. I thought the actor playing him did a great job. He hit his accent and facial expressions pretty well. But the story behind this movie was Extremely disappointing. This is, in general, a Really great idea for a movie, but.... Reality is way more interesting than fiction in this case. I hope that they come out with something better in the future.
If you're a fan, you're probably going to watch it no matter what, especially if you can get it on Prime. I wouldn't consider it a complete waste of time... It was just... Disappointing. There's SO many other directions this could have taken.

A lot of people put hate on this. I'm actually kind of interested to see how this turns out. Biopics these days are extremely formulaic. Literally every one is exactly the same and don't really say anything or sum up why a great person was so great (which is usually their point). This, however, seems to be breaking that mould. It's less of a biopic and more of a movie with Johnny as a main character. I mean from the looks of things it's adding horror movie elements to it. Will it be accurate? No, of course not. Will it be interesting? Yes, most definitely. Will it be good? Well, I guess we'll have to see. I have a feeling this will become a cult classic affair, much like the man himself.

That hand coming out of the guitar is likely him hallucinating. Word is (as die hards or even well read fans know), Johnny got tangled up with some bad ppl who gave him strong or bad LSD and took all his cash, a bunch of his methadone (but left some too) and im guessing hes tripping from that or hallucinating from withdrawl...even though that doesnt happen in opiate withdrawl. Wow I am psyched about this. No one really knows how he died and he was only in New Orleans for very long before obviously something bad happened. It should be interesting to see which angle they take on how he died.

Let’s give it a chance. Cleopatra was a respectable industrial/goth label when I was growing up. And I don’t think many film co.’s or anything else would give a Johnny T. movie a chance. It’s amazing anybody did, especially at this point.

The problem with these "based on real events" movies is that most of what you see is made up but most of the people who watch the movie think it's mostly true. I can watch Donnie Brasco or the HBO movie about John Gotti and give you examples of things that didn't happen the way they were depicted in the movie. I wish everyone who watches these fact-based movies would realize that they're largely fictional.

    • @jasond8656
      @jasond8656 5 лет назад

Shut the fuck up Sid. The movie about you was only good because who was involved in it. You were all self indulgent assholes who were ripe for exploitation. Buy the ticket, take the ride.

I sought this film out and streamed it and was fucking disgusted with how badly excited the film was and how they trampled over the mans legacy I only knew "you can't put your arms around a memory for about 8 years from the credits of that soprano song occasionally heard it in other places thinking it was the Rolling Stones then this came into my suggestions a year ago and I started listening to Johnny I'm fairly sure my father had done his dry cleaning and bp fallon when he did his last gig in dublin in the new inn in 90but anyway this movie just stamps all over the chaps legacy and you can now go over all the johnny thunders uploads on RUclips and you will find new enough commenters who are prescribing to this narrative It's not even fit for lifetime or the sci if channel it's so bad so bad, poor man was wore down and physically Ill and probably
    Some

He looks like Steve Buscemi and sounds like Michael Imperioli. From what I can gather, it's not suppose to be a biopic, so it could be mildly interesting. "There is no such thing as bad press, it's bad press when they stop writing about you" - JT

At the very least they could have focused on his life, like they did for Freddie Mercury in Bohemium Rhapsody, rather than focusing on JT's sad and tragic death. That part could have been added at the very end in words up on the screen rather than the majority of the film being about his last 24hrs of life. It breaks my heart to think about how sick he would have been feeling while suffering from advanced lukemia. Just so incredibly sad. Sometimes I struggle to listen to 'You Can't Put Your Arm Around A Memory", because it reminds me of what could have been and also what a horrible death he must have endured to be found curled up in a fetal position. Its a fucking tragedy.

Didn't Mink De Ville nail this already?
According to him(and he was the last person to see Thunders alive),if you trust his smack addled momery of events, Johnny was on the way out.
    A self-fulfilling prophecy.
This trailer is great, until it turns into 'The Crow'. Johnny wasn't a fucking goth.
He was often a mess, but when he wasn't he was genius.

Wow so much hate on here. I say well done.its better than the non ideas coming out of hollyweird lately with all the remakes of pet semetary and the like. This is an attempt at something new. It won't be accurate to the books you read and biopics rarely are. This is a film. It gives you a sense of what was.... just like paintings in a gallery.
