    Such an incredibly sad sight. I will never be able to comprehend why this particular set was scrapped and not set aside for preservation. Although it entered service in September 1981, it was actually built in 1980 and underwent several months of testing, so this set has a lot of historic significance.

      Elecrail are the only possible custodians. They have hit pause permanently as no space for hitachi or comengs. We won’t get any representatives of life in Melbourne from 1970>

      It's like our current generation don't care for preserving anything Australia once made, even Australian made cars have fallen casualty to this to an extent. I'm keeping my 2013 VF commodore for life. Also fond memories of riding in Comeng and Hitachi trains back in the 80s and 90s

    I believe I might of possibly also seen photos of 301M in Melbourne Central station that were taken of it in 1981 on the same day it officially entered passenger service! :)

    It’s so sad to see how bad a condition it is in. PTV/metro should have put it into storage cause it’s such a historic train being the first coming to enter service and all that

    Great video sad to see the state in how they are but hopefully they keep some in preservation. You going to do a Tottenham yard exploration (you don’t have to risk it if you don’t want to).

      Thanks. I think Totty is a but too red hot. So I wont make a video on it. Im happy with my experience at North Shore and will cherish it forever. Check social media (Especially Tiktok) lotsa short vids on Totty around

    Hello Straya, at the Broadmeadows Sidings, there is heavy Graffiti on 2 Comengs, (633M-655M) could you check it out please and make a video on it??
    btw I’m a Alstom Hater so it doesn’t matter as I’m happy for more EDI Sets as Alstom!

    one of the comenges was burnt similer happend to the swingdoors before the taits were making a comeback there were plans to bring back the swingdoors and also the postal taits but they were burnt no swingdoors left exept for one and also 1 mail tait at newport

    It absolutely disgusts me that they scrapped 301M-1001T-302M. Why would they scrap the first Comeng set ever built?! It would be like scrapping Hitachi 1M.

      I really dont know why. I fully agree. Sadly its too late as I believe the set has been scrapped :(

      @@StrayaTrains They also scrapped another significant set known as 479M-1090T-480M, which was part of The Met's 45th Super Train (alongside 477M-1089T-478M, which is still in service as of now). It's like they don't care about the history of certain carriages of the fleet.

      Same goes for the first Alstom refirb. 517M gonna get scrapped soon too

      @@StrayaTrains The other two carriages from that set aren't fairing much better either. 1109T was scrapped years ago after it was written off in an accident at Epping 2002, while 698M has been out of service for years.

      Techinally not but it was fine. However, all Comeng scrapped from North Shore so if you do wannna go, you will need to go to Tottenham Yard. I'm not encouraging it so its fully your choice

    It's such a shame that no-one could think of a way to use these for homeless accommodation or even for holiday houses. I guess it's just not worth the cost to transport them and install wiring and plumbing, although you'd think that if the same conversion could be done on 50 to 100 identical carriages that the cost could be kept down.

    Why would people treat the trains like this? Also, I think it would be better if they kept the first ever Comeng somewhere safe and preserve it for historical purposes instead of just scrapping it.

      Not sure. Prob adrenaline rush and for a good time. Im sure they will preserve a stage 3 once they all retired
