  • Book distribution can be a challenge when you've self-published a book. Of course, you want book stores and libraries to put your book on their shelf, but how do you get those listings? In this video, Julie Broad of Book Launchers, shares her 5 steps process to get a self-published book on the shelf in a library. Indie books are welcome additions to local libraries if you come with a marketing plan, demand for your book, and a professional sales presentation for the librarian in charge of events.

    I love your videos. I'm not sure where I heard this, but many online get your books into libraries often talk about front matter. I checked out some new children's books from the library. I am happy to report there was no front matter. I also know our local library puts on their own Dewey Decimal stickers and author labels. Just an FYI for those with concerns.

    • @BookLaunchers
      @BookLaunchers  2 года назад +1

      Children's books almost never have this - that is true. Reference books (non-fiction) don't HAVE to have it but it's more appealing.
      We are going to the ALA (American Library Association) event and it's something I'll be speaking with the librarians about.
      My books have gotten in without it as well but it does mean a librarian has to create it for their system which can be a deterrent if there is not a lot of demand.

    I wrote a book that deals with local history and planned on giving several copies of the book to the city libraries. I know this is not a “traditional” way of getting the library to carry my book, but I am more concerned about the availability of the information in the book rather than profits. I know there is no guarantee they will carry it per se, but I’m hopeful.

    Thank you for the video! Great info as always. Do you have any tips on how to get your books in libraries as a pseudonymous author? I can't reveal my identity to these libraries, but want to have it available in local state libraries (because the lore of my books is my state, most of my fans may be here)

    • @BookLaunchers
      @BookLaunchers  2 года назад

      Same approach applies - just approach them under your pen name and with all the things pen name. Libraries care about serving their members and if members want the book they will want it too.

    I'm in Southern California and every single library that I've approached has told me to go through the government website. There is nobody that I can speak with at the local libraries. I don't know if that's what I should expect from all libraries these days, but it's certainly all that I'm finding around here.
