I've used the 85mm f/1.4G and 105mm f/1.4E for volleyball. Perhaps my need for a high 'keeper rate' is less than most, but they work just fine. At some point, I'll see how this does.
I appreciate the transparency. It is quite an expensive piece of glass, especially compared to the Z 85 1.8 with the current discount. It's definitely much better, but the price difference is astronomical. Probably a good purchase on a discount.
Great video. I agree with your points. At almost $3k I would’ve like to see an all metal build, but the fact that it isn’t an all metal build it should’ve been a little bit cheaper 🤷🏽♂️. I would also like to see them give their 1.2 lenses a different letter designation than S, as the 1.8’s and 2.8’s also have the S 🤷🏽♂️. Other than that, I love the lens. It is extremely sharp and noticeably sharper than my 85 1.8. Since it’s release, I have used it for graduation, prom, and birthday shoots and love the results I have been getting with it. I do not regret my purchase at all.
I can't say that I use the OLED screens on the lenses much, but it was a nice differentiator and added to the aesthetic. Thoughts on the Z8 as per latest specs on NR?
I have the Z 70-200mm f2.8 S and the Z 50mm f1.2 S. I’m currently deciding whether to trade in my Z6 II for a Z8 to act as second body to my Z9 or to buy this lens. Which way would you go? I’m genuinely split.
Personally, I’d go with the lens and see what Nikon comes out with next for a secondary camera. Unless you’re working and HAVE to have a second camera.
@@ZWadePhoto I have a Z9 and a Z6 II. Wanting to trade the Z6 II for the Z8 so that I’m not fighting a different button layouts more than anything else. That was the original plan but now I’m thinking to stick with the Z6 II as my second body and to get this lens. Hmm…
I bought this lens blindfolded and was the first to own it in my country. My job as a pro photographer takes me around the world and this lens doesn't disappoint in the portrait section, it delivers the job very well, but honestly I expected some high end material, especially the lens hood and above all an engraving saying, 'Crafted in Japan' not China with all my respect to China, but this a Japanese product and should be proudly marked as such, even SIGMA is proudly made in Japan, or LEICA made in Germany. That's my opinion of course wouldn't expect all to agree ....
Hey I appreciate you watching Raymond. I miss the old days of metal too. Truth is, I don’t think anything is made to be passed down to family. I think everything is made to die naturally and be replaced. Sadly
You actually contradicted yourself when you said that the lens has “almost never left” the bodies of several Nikon cameras you mentioned! The very fact that it had been on several of those cameras means that it has FREQUENTLY LEFT the bodies of all those cameras lol

I actually used this lens to shoot a floor hockey game out of curiosity and was pretty surprised. The focusing speed of this is no joke.
Totally out of character for 85mm haha thanks for watching

Unique and accurate review. I am really enjoying the 85 1.2.
Right on pathfinder! It’s a sweet hunk of glass

Maybe a 's' in yellow or gold.😂

I’m holding all Z8 comments until Nikon releases the specs 👌👌👌
I like the little OLED display - the prototype had it ... 🦘
I’m finding the lens to have the buttery smooth bokeh transition similar to the 58 1.4E but much sharper and better corrected.
Oh yea the transition is suuuuuper gentle
Great vid. Thanks a lot!
Glad you enjoyed it Tobi! Thanks for watching and I hope to see you more around the channel.
Interesting points! I love the 24-70mm f2.8 vs 50mm. maybe 70-200mm f2.8 vs this one (85mm f1.2).
I might have that 70-200 vs this video already I’d have to go look lol
85 12 and z9 my fav combo ATM 🙌
It’s so good. Like so so good
Wow,impressive.🎉

I got mine today, but the focusing motor make a lot of noise, kind of loud actually, does yours make noticeable noise? Thanks!

Check this out. I have some commentary on that point and maybe it's loud enough for you to compare to yours.
Cannon Barrel?
Canon. "We heard that!!!"

Hahaha I don’t have THAT much
