In my opinion, its the best looking court / color for the court. Not only you see the ball exceptionally well, also the lines, people. Just everything. You can really focus on what matters the most, the game of tennis.
It's very stylish and I love it. However, either the line judges and umpires at this Laver Cup were really bad, or the court is not so easy on the eyes when you are there and have to call the shots. There were SO MANY bad line calls. Also from the chair umpires, who after all are the same people who usually do a good job at other tournaments. There were some hilariously wrong overrules from the chair.
@@jadawin1137 Ur right. I mean, I don't understand, why still to this day some tournaments don't use electronic line calling. You have hawkeye, you have it on a lot of tournaments, why not use it everywhere? People are not perfect, and can't be perfect. There will ALWAYS be bad and wrong calls. The history is full of wrong calls from line judges. I wonder, when will they all change.
I attended this Laver Cup. I have never paid attention to it before but as an Alcaraz fan I was drawn to it. What a spectacular event! Carlos was on fire and not only that his energy and support of his team shown like a beam of light. He and Dimi showed leadership too. I’m hooked.
The Laver Cup was fantastic and the players played their arse off for their captains last year! Carlos got his mojo back because he thrived in the team environment, loved the camaraderie with the boys and was having fun and started to smile again and then play a lot better!
I was in the stadium for the final two sessions… the atmosphere was absolutely electric when Zverev beat Tiafoe and Carlos went GOD MODE against Fritz!
I Love the Laver Cup and totally agree with your assessment. I didn't care for the black court as well. For me Shelton and Alcaraz both carried their respective teams on their backs. Team world really made it interesting with a good lead through the first 2 days. Thanks Nick for your insights!
It definitely highlights the players. Federer mentioned that was something he wanted visually. The players stand out and the court is just kind of there in the background. From my understanding the court is more true black in person, but appears dark gray on TV.
It took me a little while to get used to the court color, but all things considered, I see it as a unique playing surface to any other event. It represents a real throwback to the days of Rod Laver when television was broadcast in black and white. The 1967 Wimbledon tournament was the first to be broadcast in color by the BBC in the United Kingdom.
One thing to consider regarding Carlos' play at Davis and Laver cups: Both surfaces were slower and higher bouncing then Cinci and the US Open. Carlos has traditionally struggled on faster lower-bouncing indoor hardcourts. You could say the same thing about Iga. The Asian swing is a faster stretch of surfaces. Last year, Dimitrov, Shelton and Sinner excelled.
As an american lefty, im a big fan of Shelton. Also rooting for Fritz and Tiafoe. We might not get a Grand Slam soon, but I expect these 3 to start contending for it soon. Fritz has what it takes.
Tiafoe/Shelton were not fabulous in the first set... but Ruud/Alcaraz just fire things up ! I think the 2 americans get really surprised ! I was not at all... because that duo Ruud/Alcaraz was the better idea for team Europe (both players has played with Rafa in doubles this summer and it was fire, so I was expecting the same dynamic with Ruud/Alcaraz pair). I was waiting for it since the beginning I'm happy that it was the last one for a 3 points !
Hi sir! I have one question on the eastern forehand grip. What number I should put my index knuckle, heel pad, and thumb pad for perfect eastern forehand grip? Thanks!
On one hand I like the Laver Cup for the reasons you outlined but as a tennis fan I have had a hard time keeping up post US Open, with Davis Cup, Laver Cup and the Chinese Masters going on at the same time. I think the Laver Cup is doing the other tournaments a disservice. Especially the Asian tournaments should be building up to the Masters Finals. We've been seeing a ton of tennis this year, with the OS on top of everything. Today I'm exhausted with the game and the Laver Cup went past me. Might just be me but I wish the tour became a bit more focused.
apples and oranges. USO / Cincinnati is medium fast to fast with medium bounce. Shanghai is medium fast to fast with medium to low boynce (if played indoors). berlin was slow and low bounce like ATP Paris.
Laver Cup court is always the same, it's amovible pannels use each year, and it's always indoor. It's the slowest hardcourt/indoor hardcourt out there. And the ball bounce are really low. So it's really close to playing on clay, but without the bounce of the ball and the weird bounce of the ball. So players who plays with a lot of topspin and great on clay have an advantage (Alcaraz, Ruud, Cerundolo, Tabilo, Tsitsipas). Player who play flat and at the net will struggle more. So long and gruelling exchange at the baseline are part of the Laver Cup ! It's the perfect court for Alcaraz in fact. He like baseline exchange, he has lot of topspin so the ball clear well the net, he has time to prepare his shots since the ball come at him more slowly.
@@juedionne925 Correct, but remember that he struggled in paris and made only the semis with difficulty. So, playing indoors is a new experience for him, but he improved a lot recently with his davis cup performance and here in no small part due to his improved serve technique and placement. that will be key no matter how slow the surface is
Zverev was sick, but still beat Tiafoe, Sinner and Djokovic didn´t took part, so that´s why it has been close, otherwise it woud have been a clear and boring competition. The colour was indeed strange, first thought, my laptop/youtube was broke...
No, he didnt single handedly win the Laver cup. Some people are so disrespectful….. Give credit to all of them. They were a team. Alcaraz didnt win his first double but he won with Ruud, so why not give Ruud creditfor that. Maybe they were the perfect match up. Rud’s double with Tstsipas was ruined because Tstsipas seemed totally uninterested and played really poor. Not easy being a teammate in a double match then….
Let’s look at how many points each player on Team Europe was responsible for with the Laver Cup format: Alcaraz: 8 points (3 shared with Ruud) Zverev: 3 points Ruud: 3 points (shared with Alcaraz) Dimitrov: 1 point Tsitsipas: 1 point Medvedev: 0 points Now let’s look at how many points each member of Team Europe gifted to Team World by losing: Medvedev: 5 points Zverev: 3 points (1 shared with Alcaraz) Ruud: 3 points (2 shared with Tsitsipas) Tsitsipas: 2 points (shared with Ruud) Alcaraz: 1 point (shared with Zverev) Dimitrov: 0 points So Alcaraz earned the most points for Team Europe, as many as the rest of his teammates combined, and gave up the second fewest points to Team World despite playing the most matches. If that’s not a hard carry by Alcaraz, I don’t know what is.
Laver Cup is a yearly JOKE because the top players for Australia, Canada and The U.S. can't beat the top European players. When the 6 top-ranked players in the world are all European, it's farcical to have a far inferior non-European team attempt to compete against them. And it's like this every year. So, I pay ZERO attention to Laver cup.

My sentiments exactly.
I second that. Dark gray best color hands down in terms of visibility for the spectator.

Shelton & Alcaraz bring out the best in each other on hard court.
Whaaat? Everybody praises the black court. It looks phenomenal.
I love it.
I find it drab
@@IntuitiveTennis Why? I mean, why is, for example, blue&green not boring, but black is? I think it's very aesthetic, especially with dim lighting.
Yeah, and is less tiresome for your eyes.

You are SOOOOO RIGHT about exhibition games.
I love the coaching part too, this was my favourite part of the Davis Cup too.
Speaking of coaching … the Agassi commentary was pure gold during the Fritz-Zverev match.
Yeah, I mean the whole event is a Laver of love …
What the court colour is my all time fave? Lol 😆
The US Open in-person attendance crossed north of 1 million for the first time. I was there 2nd round, place was packed and it was very hot 🥵

Shelton surprised me in this Laver Cup. If only he can be as focused in his matches he will soon be challenging the Big 5.

To this point, Carlos faces Perricard first round in Beijing. Will be a very telling match.
The court looks much better than the blue of the US Open with the bright green. Such a color clash.

Just a heads up, you wrote that Alcaraz won it for team world in the title

Man, I'm rewatching the Alcaraz-Ruud/Foe-Shelton doubles match. Foe and Shelton played first set so bad. This is where Team World lost the tournament.
maybe Casper shocked the living daylights out of them 🤔😉😆

I don't know if its the court speed or just the color, but the Laver Cups courts feels so slow for me.
How does the speed of the Berlin court compare to Cinci/US Open/Asia/Finals affect Alcaraz' performance?

Don’t tell Alcaraz fans.
Let’s look at how many points each player on Team Europe was responsible for with the Laver Cup format:
Alcaraz: 8 points (3 shared with Ruud)
Zverev: 3 points
Ruud: 3 points (shared with Alcaraz)
Dimitrov: 1 point
Tsitsipas: 1 point
Medvedev: 0 points
Now let’s look at how many points each member of Team Europe gifted to Team World by losing:
Medvedev: 5 points
Zverev: 3 points (1 shared with Alcaraz)
Ruud: 3 points (2 shared with Tsitsipas)
Tsitsipas: 2 points (shared with Ruud)
Alcaraz: 1 point (shared with Zverev)
Dimitrov: 0 points
So Alcaraz earned the most points for Team Europe, as many as the rest of his teammates combined, and gave up the second fewest points to Team World despite playing the most matches. If that’s not a hard carry by Alcaraz, I don’t know what is.
