Thanks Chad! Much appreciated, I am on my Final Glide to a good tune. Lol, quad flew pretty damn good but there is a little something (higher frequency I think) causing oscillation here and there, once my logger arrives it shouldn't b a thing anymore. WOOT
just like audio production! I can see future update parametric EQ. really filters basically are EQ. cutting out sections, or raise in some cases. thanks for the tutorial!
Notch filters are so last month :-P The new hotness in BetaFlight is switching to PT1 and turning off your notch filters! On a quad with balanced motors the propwash handling is amazing!
Awesome video guys! Love it, ordered up my black box logger from readymaderc. Have always wondered which was the best to use etc. have some vibes to tune out. Thanks!
NOTE: On the KISS V2 Board they moved the port to the top port. Took me hours for figure out what the heck was wrong. @2:28 looks like they are using Tommys port now :)
After not being able to pull up black box data as prescribed from this tutorial, beta-flight BB wouldn't open file. So after 6 packs, and hours of reading....once the RMRC black box is connected it writes a config.text file to SD. when it does this it sets the baud rate to 115200, because of this it wouldn't open in betaflight BB. So i opened the config.text, and changed the baud rate to 250000. Works perfect now. perfect now I smashed my to front motors during second BB pack run :-( Kiss FC 1.03 ..firmware KISSFC-1.3RC10
@@yudaanggoro9607 Same here, I went through four different SD cards, changing logging rate and even tried saving the files onto the PC. Awesome Jonathan!
Thanks guys! Very helpful. One question, what if the peak is not symmetrical? Like the first one you do in your video. It's much more noisy to the left of the peak than to the right. Cheers
Have you heard of people having de-sync issues running the newest Kiss 24A ESC firmware (110b_rc7)? I practically rebuilt my "Steele" Alien and couldn't fix it. Then I rolled back to v108f and the issue seems to have gone away.
Each of you guys should release a set of blackbox logs from some of your flights. I'd love compare what your logs look like during sharp maneuvers compared to mine.
quick question. In light of the new PT1 betaflight filtering protocol, does the use of notch filters in KISS also result in reduced propwash control, as it does in Betaflight (because of the inherent delay in the filter process)?
You might need to redirect this question to the KISS Developers Brother, reach out via an issue in GIT. I would like to know the answer as well, Happy Flying man.
Quick question, do you recommend setting notch filters with LPF off or High. Right now I run LPF on high, and don't really get any mid throttle oscillations. If I switch LPF to off I get a slight mid throttle oscillations, thats when Im really trying to find that certain throttle spot to make the props resonate. So whats better I guess I'm asking...running LPF off with notch filters set, or running LPF High with no notch filters...or do they pretty much equal the same lol.
I tried soldering it to the TX pad near the micro USB adapter and the 5v + ground pads on the opposite side of the board. It created a log file but it appears to be empty. Perhaps this TX pad is not sufficient?
Anyone out there run into the issue of the log files not producing anything that the log viewer can use? I purchased the logger from RMRC so I'm assuming it already has the correct firmware. I have the same SD card as recommended. I lowered the logging down to 60% just in case. I get log files, but when loaded into the Betaflight log viewer (Chrome App) no data is displayed. Tried several times. The only thing I deviated from was how I connected to the FC (see my previous comment). Any help would be much appreciated.
Hi all, I crashed my tilted quadcopter and I wanted to go on a classic frame, is it possible to put all the components of the drone on a frame? Will it work because then servo of the tilted rotor is broken. Thanks for your answers guys Carry on guys I love you !
MR. Physicist have a look at the uav futures $99 quadcopter build. Then buy a flysky i6, a cheap lipo charger, cheap(box style) fpv goggles and a few 1300-1500mah lipo's and you're set. This will add up to less than $300
Hi boys I been flying kiss for awhile now on all my quads and getting a bit fed up with kiss and vibration when are there going to release a new upgrade flight controller im considering changing over to raceflight revolt or even betaflight but would prefer to stay with kiss so Chad is there a new kiss fc been talked about in the future or just firmware updates
Damn, the link for the open logger is missing... From what I hear the video it looks like they are talking about this one: www.readymaderc.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=505_778_781&products_id=5050 @rotorriot could you confirm? Also where do you get the pin that plugs in the Kiss FC? As always, great job guys!!
Guys, Love the video, but still having issues with getting this to work on my Kiss FC. When I open Cleanflght Blackbox with the TXT file. The screen comes up blank. I set up the gyros graph and hit play but still nothing. No stick commands or graph, just a blank screen. What am I missing?
Same here. Currently I'm trying to verify that the correct firmware is on the logger, but that is an extremely complicated process. Please let me know if you find answer -- I'll do the same.
Turned out to be the baud rate for me too. I had initially tried setting it to 250000 and when that didn't work I moved onto other ideas.. Then I read that the correct rate is 256000. Change the number in the config file that gets created on the SD card.
Jim D Right on, thanks man. I'll give that a try. I was thinking maybe my sd card's writing speed was to slow, but didn't know how to check that. Thanks for the info, I'm trying it now
I just thought of one other thing. During the process of troubleshooting I set my logger rate in the KISS GUI to 60%. This may not be necessary but just thought I'd mention it. (Jim D is my other account)
I just found out about setting the baud rate on sd card. Check...but does that only work if you change the baud before you log a flight? Or can i set it and check flight logged with previous baud logged flights?>
So.. it just links to a sold out product. Soooo helpful. Now I can get back to NOT using a blackbox and having no idea how to set up a non-rmrc product
I wouldn't bother with getting a logger that doesn't already have the correct firmware on it. It's very complicated to get the FTDI hardware and Arduino software setup to flash it. Just wait for RMRC to restock IMO.
Is there anywhere else to get this Notch Filter, I have been waiting 7 weeks from READYMADERC as it has obviously been lost by there transport options. On request they suggest I buy another one!! HELP who else sells this. I do not want to deal with them anymore.
Definitely a long shot posting this here, but I recently got my BB Recorder from Readymaderc and tested it yesterday. Connected it properly, enabled logging 100% and it's a high write speed U1 SD card formatted using the SD card utility, and it creates log files just fine, but I guess they're blank. Betaflight Blackbox utility doesn't open anything, it's a black screen. I don't even know where to start. Maybe flash the firmware on the open logger? But you said they are preflashed to work. So I really don't know. Heeeeeeeeeeeelp!
Ahh man you saved my ass. I've been racking my damn brain here. I figured it was a baud rate issue with the junk garbled data in my logs. Switched it to 256000 and boom, data streaming like its cool. Thanks for chiming in here.
I have one question if you got de firmware do i have to power up the quad an reflash it? Because cleanfligt have been updatet and now i cant connect annymore
You said TX pad; did you mean RX pad? Looking at the pads you soldered those are gnd, vcc, RX on the one i ordered from the link below. So i looked at kiss wiring diagram, and it show to RX pad. Also if rmrc is still out of cable, sparkfun has them. I have logged yet but it fits into Kiss FC.. www.sparkfun.com/products/574 Nevermind RX on black box logger to Kiss FC TX.
yes, i changed it in the GUI to 100% logging. The OSD was soldert and logger was on port 2. OSD gives no output... but logger was working. After loggin i unplug it from port 2 and change back to OSD... works
Now, what about all the hype on Betaflight on turning OFF the notch filters? How does this apply to KISS. You guys made this video right at the time where this hype is going on.
PinchTune - good point - I completely forgot about that video that Joshua put out about that. Come to think of it... how are there already notch filters on the board? Maybe it's something different?
awesome very well explained, now if you could do the same for us beta flight users that be great as i don't think my brain could handle josh's one just yet haha
Before doing any of this you should mention balancing your props. Without doing this first everything else is pointless especially with modern sensitive gyros. Every prop is different .Especially at high revs that modern setups can deliver. These days props are cheap, mass produced and out of balance.
Valkman RC Bah, who has time to do that! In the good old days of gemfan 5030s balancing props might have been worth it but these days most props are well balanced enough from the factory and people ding their props in the first flight or two anyway, undoing all that painstaking work.
In my experience from building over 500 quad racers and trying all the brands 1 in 2 need balancing and even more so with the latest flight controllers that are even more sensitive to vibs which is why the controller needs to be damper mounted these days. People are even putting tape under their motors lol! You hardly think that a 60c plastic prop is coming from a factory in China balanced?
The main reason behind these tactics to reduce vibes is not because of unbalanced props (although it does help with that). It is because of the newer, more powerful motors we are using now. These motors with their very strong magnets produce more vibration which is reaching the gyros. Additionally, tools like notch filters and d-term filters now mean prop vibes are not hugely problematic. You are correct in saying that 60c props are not likely to be balanced, but I am putting it to you that they are balanced enough for our purposes, especially given the sophisticated filtering we are able make use of. The props on a miniquad are too light to really cause significant issues from balance. Sure if you put them on a balancer they will be a bit out of balance but PRACTICALLY, when you put them on a quad with 2306 motors the vibes from the prop are the last thing you need to worry about, especially when most people end up clipping branches, bending props etc and keep on flying. If you can be bothered hand balancing hundreds of props that might only last you a few flights before they are chipped and bent, be my guest. I don't have time for that and I don't think most people can be bothered when they can use filtering and appropriate soft-mounting to manage most vibes anyway.
Well I only use Emax motors and they are very well balanced and have been for years. Nearly all motors are very well balanced these days. Props are not. Better to get rid of the vibs first....add filters later. It only takes 10 mins to balance 4 props. Surely you have the time for that! No point using a prop balancer with small props. Spin them up on the motor. As I said , I have built over 500 quads racers so I think I learned a thing or two on the way.
I never said the motors are not balanced, I said they produce vibration. It's because of the new more powerful magnets and smaller airgaps. Mate, I've got a full time job, a one year old son, I'm doing an MBA and wife is studying medicine. I definitely don't have time to waste 10 mins balancing every set of props, when I could spend that time flying. Each to their own though. If you've got time, go for it!
Good video, but I'd rather that either Tommy shuts up entirely or Chad lets him actually say something. This 2-3 secs of talking over each other every 15 seconds is really irritating.
Kudos guys now I UNDERSTAND notch filters and how to look at BB to set them up! Thanks!
Thanks Chad! Much appreciated, I am on my Final Glide to a good tune. Lol, quad flew pretty damn good but there is a little something (higher frequency I think) causing oscillation here and there, once my logger arrives it shouldn't b a thing anymore. WOOT
What about tpa in kiss? We need a new video 👍🏻 regards from Germany.
Fantastic video guys, finally I can understand and actually apply correctly notch filtering.
PID tuning -> Notch Filter -> Motor change -> PID tuning -> Notch filter -> repeat every hard crash
where can I get the clapper board to sink my cameras?
If it was other chad it would be a kapper clapper
thanks
ahh I see what you did there :)
Bruce, I love it man! lol
Could you make tutorial from how to use TPA and how it affects flight performance and overall tune?
The board at the background to 😅😅😅 Geniuses😅
just like audio production! I can see future update parametric EQ. really filters basically are EQ. cutting out sections, or raise in some cases.
thanks for the tutorial!
guys where are the links?
The most pleasable RR membes and ex RR member. I miss Chad. Brilliant sense of humor and always a good idea how to teach stuff
Been missing some finalglide how to! Good stuff thanks!
I love this channel , and the guys are a trip I've learned a lot and had fun doing it , keep it up
my tune when from bad to
bad with some Australian beer
Tommy / Chad good to see you educating the fans again! Thanks for explaining those filters to us. I was hoping Tommy would have the lab coat though. 😉
Outstanding Chad. Thanks for this bro.
Notch filters are so last month :-P The new hotness in BetaFlight is switching to PT1 and turning off your notch filters! On a quad with balanced motors the propwash handling is amazing!
thanks for the great explanation of the notch filters guys :)
Awesome video guys! Love it, ordered up my black box logger from readymaderc. Have always wondered which was the best to use etc. have some vibes to tune out. Thanks!
You want to be locked in with a PID tune first before you start notching right?
NOTE: On the KISS V2 Board they moved the port to the top port. Took me hours for figure out what the heck was wrong. @2:28 looks like they are using Tommys port now :)
Very nice guys please next time saw us the how fix the PIDS in blackbox.

Each of you guys should release a set of blackbox logs from some of your flights. I'd love compare what your logs look like during sharp maneuvers compared to mine.
hey can you give us your thoughts about motor-, prop- balancing and soft mounting?

Nice video guys!!! 2Chad: Finally ;))))
TPA/PIDs - Once i set the notch TPA should be ok to go down and possibly increase PIDs to get the quad "more" locked?
Hey Chad. Should we be looking at raw gyro data not the pre filtered gyro to set notch filters?
Clownz FPV That's my understanding with Betaflight.
Clownz FPV if you turn off the notch and low pass filters it's pretty much the same right...
Quick question, do you recommend setting notch filters with LPF off or High. Right now I run LPF on high, and don't really get any mid throttle oscillations. Hey finalglide did you set notch filters on the vortex when you tuned it?
greaaaat epsiode thnx guys
hope kiss new hardware will have dataflash onboard
...please add link to RMRC item just so we are 100% sure we get the right one...thanks like always!
Of course those cables are sold out now... Can I just solder to any TX, RX, GND pads on the KISS FC board?
I tried soldering it to the TX pad near the micro USB adapter and the 5v + ground pads on the opposite side of the board. It created a log file but it appears to be empty. Perhaps this TX pad is not sufficient?

Everyone at Joe Nall? 😄
Still no luck getting this to work. I'm now wondering if the logger I got from RMRC did not come with the correct firmware installed.
RotorRiot? Anyone??
awesome explanation
How do I directly solder it to the kiss fc? I got a fancy pdb thats using those kiss ports... Derp derp tx pad...

am I missing the link in the description for the open logger?
Really surprised you guys forgot to mention the change to buad rate in the config
i dont got any money for these cool toys but i still watch cause you guys are cooooolll....Great Job Guys!

one day, for sure. i could try to save up for one...i am still a student, but i do have a "rip a quad" in my bucket list

NOPE will NOT be buying from READYMADERC again, Flying Squirrel you can have as much Notch Filters as you want if they truly exist!

The notch filter is configured in the flight controller software. Are you talking about the black box recorder?

I'm having the same exact problem. Did you get it working?
If you haven't figured this out already, check out the other comments about baud rate.
if you have a max noise of 106 do you even need the filters ? its a betaflight build though but should matter I don't think
I feel kind of bad that one time I thought Kapper was the interrupter. Holy shit, Aussie Chad just never lets Tommy talk.
In fairness, he's supposed to be the one who knows what he's doing in this tutorial.
I screwed up the TX pad on one of my flight controller near the usb port. can TX2 or TX3 be used for this function?
How much storage do you need for 1 flight (4min)
for those who have junk data in the log file: Go to Sdcard -> open CONFIG.TXT -> set 256000 -> Save!
no you must set the baud rate to 256000
@donald heon you are the man -- i could not figure out the problem until i saw your post. thank you.
me either until i looked at the firmware flasher tab in BF and saw the baud rate values
donald heon ah, I'm on kiss so I didn't have that clue. thanks again.
Ahh man you saved my ass. I've been racking my damn brain here. I figured it was a baud rate issue with the junk garbled data in my logs. Switched it to 256000 and boom, data streaming like its cool. Thanks for chiming in here.
Is it possible to do this sort of thing without buying extra hardware? just with the kiss fc? or is the external hardware required?
How's it going RotorRiot?
looking to build a brushed micro quad. what board would you recommend to use?
Zero bytes writing. I checked and the blue light mentioned is not blinking. Config is set to 256000 baud, Card is a class 10 16GB
I have one question if you got de firmware do i have to power up the quad an reflash it? Because cleanfligt have been updatet and now i cant connect annymore
which format of SD card should be ? FAT32 or NTFC
Is the FC connector a JST 1.25 or 2mm??
yay for raceflight♪
WHAT???!??!!!?? Where's the blooper at the end?
You said TX pad; did you mean RX pad? Looking at the pads you soldered those are gnd, vcc, RX on the one i ordered from the link below. So i looked at kiss wiring diagram, and it show to RX pad. Also if rmrc is still out of cable, sparkfun has them. I have logged yet but it fits into Kiss FC.. www.sparkfun.com/products/574
Nevermind RX on black box logger to Kiss FC TX.
Nice that you don't have to drm activate betaflight black box logger and anyone can use it!
Hi, if i use an OSD on RX1 TX1 pad... must i desoldert it ? Or work loggin it, if i change in the GUI from OSD to Logger ?
Dr.001 it worked with solderdert osd kabels... dont habe to desolder
yes, i changed it in the GUI to 100% logging. The OSD was soldert and logger was on port 2. OSD gives no output... but logger was working. After loggin i unplug it from port 2 and change back to OSD... works
I suspect this will depend on the OSD, but I guess it's just ignoring what it considers to be "garbage data" coming in. Worth trying :)
why do you guys have an oscilloscope in the background?
no links
I'm just trying to understand the calculations on the whiteboard in the background lol
Links Please!
Great, there were already no KISS power distribution cables even before this video came out.
yeye i just orderd my kiss fc!
Ready
What is happening whit CharPu? He haven't be on RUclips for 4 months
awesome very well explained, now if you could do the same for us beta flight users that be great as i don't think my brain could handle josh's one just yet haha
the answer is "butter"
Came here for the Minecraft.
Was not disappointed.
i feel like you guys should play another game of kwad soon... ;)
where in georgia off 95 is a good shop for fatshark goggles ? just left florida
betaflight or cleanflight
Hi Mom! I'm on RUclips
ño
You guys think I'll get arrested if I dive the space needle?
Yes. I'm pretty sure you will make security flip out. It's a US landmark, and they'll be on the alert for possible terrorist attacks.
I have tape. No need for notchfilters. Blablabla
guyz make rotor riot fidget spinner :-P
Chad seems very annoyed everytime Tommy interrupts. Let Chad talk since he's the expert.
Yayyy
yeie
Play some more kwad
