I'm 58 yrs old and loving this hobby! I purchased the best equipment I could find right out of the gate and have never looked back! This video has given me a tremendous grasp on the tuneing area of the quad! So, My QAV has never flown better ,I'm able to not only doing tricks better but I'm now completing them quicker, which makes it so I can start adding on some of my own touches before finishing my trick!I always love watching your group get together and do what most people think is impossible! (Although, I do tend to favor Mr.Steele)I'm not one to write to people on the web(being my age I guess) I felt I needed to thank you all, for giving me the understanding I needed to use Cleanflight to its fullest as far as PID tuneing goes!HATS OFF! To you all,thank you so very much! You guys changed not only the way my quad flys but also the way I am now flying!
@@RedBear345 I was satisfied buying the taranis x7, $100 for box goggles, and parts for betaflight 75 sized whoops. Probably $400. Going to 5" building my own quad cost around 250-300. the only think I kept buying was more batteries at 25$ a pop. 2018 is my first year in the hobby and I have put more into it than being satisfied. I have grown to 3" and trying those out.. trying different 5" motors and props... probably in $2000.
Great episode, I think these kind of vids is what everyone really wants to see. I've really been messing with my tune lately and actually made up charts to write down my setting before I change anything so if I don't like where it's at I can start back with where I was before easily. Seems to be helping a lot in the field. As far as buying a shirt mine is actually coming in the mail today. Great job guys! Keep them coming!

i have a 250 racer with a naze32 board., I've never really flown that particular quad, because i couldn't get it to fly properly, even after fiddling with the pids, and tried alot, eventually giving up on the quad. i then stumbled upon your video, and decided to take it off the shelf, copied every setting you guys did,. never really fiddled with anything els than pids, so i fiddled arround with all the settings untill i had it just how i wanted it.. a little bit different from your settings, but not much. and it flies like nothing i could've ever imagined. SO locked in, and SO responsive, and really really agile. this quad is now with me on the field almost daily.
soooooooo. where are you today? if you got the naze to fly "locked in" what is your setup and how would you describe how it flies compared to this comment 2 years ago?

I have tried these tips and it has made a HUGE improvement on my Minion. I now have yaw control like crazy (and always wanted). I have put in a few flights today, and cant wait to start to play around with the "I" and "D" a bit more. The guys did a great job of explaining the values and what each one did. What has taken me months of reading forum posts and articles online, was summed up beautifully on this episode. Please make more videos like this one. I really love episodes like this when you guys have a basic quad fpv guy like myself and such start teaching him how you would tune a quad the right way. I'm really learning a lot very insightful stuff indeed keep it up!
Tuning often is very intimidating, especially if you have no clue what you're doing. Even if you go into it with little to no experience, fiddling around can/will help you learn a lot. If you change something, you can associate it with what you changed, tweak it, and see what feels best. I'd recommend always taking a photo of your presets or current tune so if you change too much and don't like it, you can always revert to your original settings. Like Chad said, don't be afraid to fiddle. Go by feel and then keep going until it's perfect. Don't settle for something sub par, settle for perfection. You're its master, make it do what you say.
Great idea for a technically oriented episode. This was crammed with valuable information that a lot of people want, but telling it through Josh's story kept it interesting and entertaining. The difference between RPY Rate and RC Rate still melts my mind, though.

VERY good advice! As an amateur but getting better pilot the elusive PID tuning always frustrated me and I am actually glad to see (sort of) its much more than that. And that's why I love this hobby/sport. We are ALWAYS learning...every, single day. Thanks guys. And Steele...lose the stash man! ;)
I really like the direction RotorRiot is taking , i think people are more interested in reviews.comments and tips along with the cocky/funny attitudes of Chad and Steele and how they always seem make fun of each other all bundled up into an episode.Great job guys, and cheers to Mr.Steele for letting someone else fly his quad i know it wasn't an easy thing as most people are very protective of their setups and other people flying them! +JustStav I totally disagree about the "reviews, comments and tips". I mean, they're nice to have like every 3rd video, but there is no shortage of those type of videos out there. Rotor Riot stands out as "the fun show" that this community is missing. They originally described it as "Top Gear with quads" and Top Gear wouldn't be what it was without a lot of cocking about and throwing cars into the ocean.

Awesome episode! That helps a lot. If you have the time; "tuning vom scratch" would be awesome. Starting with PIDs at "0" and increase P till it's oscillating. Then go over to D and I. I still use Chads PIDs (a bit tweaked) for my Alien since I'm running a pretty similar Setup as he does. It's my best flying quad and there is no chance that I got the same result on my own. The hardest to tune for me is Yaw since the effect of different PIDs is so difficult to notice on this axis. Still trying to tune my QAV180. It's a bit***! This thing wants so much D - that couldn't be right -.-

I'm glad I watched this. Thanks for keeping the language clean. I've done a lot of experimenting, and though I'm using a Openpilot, the concepts are applicable. It would be nice to see you take an EBAY special ZMR250 running cc3d on 3S (one of the least expensive quads available) and after setting it up the best you could - to race eachother with them. Each member racing the exact same cheap quad specs, but with your own software settings/pids etc. That could be entertaining and informational at the same time.
Thanks for the advice and thanks for the numbers. I just went from stock numbers and dropping 50 feet on a roll to dropping maybe a foot or 2. Now I have a slightly better understanding of what all those numbers mean.
Maybe the BEST video ´for me´ u guys have ever done!!! I learned a lot about my personal laziness of trying to get something more locked and consistent. Now I know what to look for to get well simply said "better" at flying!

Everyone is about pids and descriptions of what each setting does is rare. taking some of what you put forward in here has made a massive difference to how my quad flies. keep up the great work. and yes, next time get a mode 1 pilot - lol. or maybe try a tri. :)

Lots of insight in this video! I've actually had issues with rates and expo. I fly in velocidrone (Sim) and it simulates betaflight to a certain degree, and on it I have high rc rates and low expo, and the quad moves exactly how I want. I can rip fast and accurate, But my Real Quad had higher expo and lower RC rate and I have a hard time flying it. I really want my real quad to fly like my settings in velocidrone. Lucky kid to have all you guys help him lock it in!!

What a smooth quad Steele has. The secret is to have sturdy undamaged frame with all the components locked in place firmly.

this was awesome.. while I love watching the pros fly - at times it can become a bit too much .. this approach helps us mere mortals...great work

I must say that the video is probably the best description / help I have seen.
Everyone is about pids and descriptions of what each setting does is rare.
taking some of what you put forward in here has made a massive difference to how my quad flies.

Thank you all, Steele I am perfectly align with what you are saying flying is all about feeling the way you want the quad to react to your input on the controller, I notice that I am more aggressive with the movements on my sticks so I cannot use a lot of you all's set ups, Love the vid guys thank you got a lot from it, peace!

Lots of insight in this video! I've actually had issues with rates and expo. I fly in velocidrone (Sim) and it simulates betaflight to a certain degree, and on it I have high rc rates and low expo, and the quad moves exactly how I want. I can rip fast and accurate, But my Real Quad had higher expo and lower RC rate and I have a hard time flying it. I really want my real quad to fly like my settings in velocidrone. Lucky kid to have all you guys help him lock it in!!
