Making 👏 this 👏 today👏. My oven has been broken for the past few months. I have been looking for a way to make cake! I'm tired of microwave mug cakes 😫 thhhhhhankyouuuuuu
Hey Folks! I'm Matthew Francis, the chef and video producer of this vid! did you like this chocolate cake? how fun to try making one in the slow-cooker! If you have any questions, send em my way!
I bought a versatile rice cooker from Amazon and some of the presets other than rice is cake, yogurt, grains, slow cook, oatmeal etc . I’m curious about making yogurt in a slow cooker. Any chance of making a vid in the future about making yogurt in one?
Matthew, may I just grease the pot using butter or oil instead of spraying it in preparation for baking ? Additionally, how easy is it to get it out of the cooker , once it's done ?
It uses so much less power so it's perfect for RV camping, for dorm rooms, roughing it long-term in a camping cabin, 4 places where you don't have gas or the amperage needed for an electric oven, times when you need more ways to cook then you can do it any one time in your kitchen, ways to cook when the Crock-Pot or slow cooker- instant pot is all you have. You can make just about anything in one of those from soup to casserole to roasted meat to roasted vegetables to cake to bread. All that in the slow cooker alone without the additional capabilities of a pressure cooker or instant pot. Even oatmeal, quinoa, , and stuff like that can be made. You can make jam and fruit Butters and if you have the jars and the instant pot pressure cooker settings you can even actually can the jam in a jar so that it keeps for years but of course if you have that you can make pickles tomato sauce and other acidic Foods! I'm not a kitchen gadget loving person but I have to say the instantpot seems to me like the most miraculous thing since sliced bread and I love finding a new ways to use it even though I'm not a Susie Homemaker type. I'm more the apartment confirmed Bachelor type and I like to travel wow semi roughing it in camping cabins and a smallish towable RV but very limited power and Storage so these options are wonderful. Rice might be a little tricky in a slow cooker but everything else can be made that way so someone who is on an extremely limited power supply or budget or has limited water to cook with ( because it does require much less water) or just wants to be kind to the environment might consider this. I use my microwave and my instant pot and my slow cooker to make literally everything. I have an oven and cooktop but I never use it unless I need a spare place to cook things. Oh I do have one more thing it's a $45 Pizza cooker and you can do everything from pancakes to fish sticks to Pizza in that thing. It makes excellent cookies, cornbread, and biscuits, so a $25 crock pot and a $45 pizza maker will make everything but steamed rice! Maybe it will do steamed rice too and I just don't know how. If you throw in the microwave and/or pressure cooker functions of the instant pot, or you have an outdoor fire and a an old-fashioned solid aluminum pressure cooker, you've got more than one way to cook many, many things but you've definitely got the rice too. On top of that, these methods of cooking allow preparation from things like dry rice and beans and freeze dried vegetables. Those things keep much longer than Frozen or refrigerated items and often taste better and have less sodium and sugar than canned. But even if you use a lot of canned goods canned and dried are two excellent ways to store food long-term so I Crock-Pot or to seem to me to be good items to have in a storm shelter or Foodbank where meals are served. I'm only that because they can be kept on a warm setting for a while you can serve food from them a lot longer without as much worry about spoilage. I'll make a pot of stew and eat it for 3 days. It's the kind like chili that doesn't suffer from cooking longer and I make allowance for the extra cooking it will undergo by shortening the initial cooking time. About every 12 hours I turn it on sautee which is a 30-minute setting that brings it all the way back to boiling or near boiling so that the bacteria count that might be building up stops before it spoils. I'm meticulous about keeping it covered and using only fresh clean dry sanitary Dipper and stirring utensils Etc. With all those steps I've never had the slightest hint of food poisoning. I find that baked beans beans to soups and stews do very well that way. However with vegetable soup if you like it they can junkie like us do you will want to cook adjusting off and no longer because even after keep warm setting it does very slowly cook more overtime. I find that spaghetti sauce also works well so if you have a place to refrigerate the pasta then it's possible to keep the sauce warm and have pasta two nights in a row. Some people might be horrified that I would keep it on heat that long. Theoretically if it stays at the 140 degrees required by law and restaurant buffets it should be safe and if there's a time limit on that my turning it back on Boiling periodically probably extends that time quite a bit. I use a food thermometer to make sure that they keep warm setting is really staying that warm and I do Stir It periodically to make sure that the heat is evenly distributed so that the entire pot of food is kept at that safe temperature. I also use acidic Foods with tomato in them because that probably is safest just as it is when you are canning without pressure or making pickles. The low PH discourages bacterial growth.
Dry ingredients 1 3/4 cup flour 1 1/2 tsp baking soda 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 3/4 cup cocoa powder 1 cup boiling water Wet ingredients 2 eggs 1/2 cup oil 1 cup of milk 2 cups sugar 1 tsp vanilla extract Is this right?
as always and oven would work just as fine, you also could try an instapot or just cooking it on super low in a pot on the stove, but of course, the timing would be way different. you'd have to watch it really carefully!

The cake looked like it was burnt on the bottom, was it? Or is it so dark because it's chocolate.
Also, what size slow cooker did you use. Thanks
