- Can't believe no one has ever posted this...full 30 minute unedited interview with Lars Ulrich, in which he gives a rambling and sometimes disjointed testament to British new wave metal and the band Anvil. definitely some priceless moments in here!

Lars has had that same piece of gum in his mouth since the ride the lightning tour
Wahahahah!
Hahahahahahahahahaha! LMAO!!
🤣
For real, when I was little I used to think Lars was always chewing on gum or sucking on a mint when he spoke to people lol
Yummy.
I love watching Lars interviews! He's very articulate and intelligent. I hate that people give him a hard time! He's quirky but all the best people are.
I agree. I'm a singer/guitarist, but my personality is similar to Lars. I'm also a Capricorn like he is as well.
Lars Ulrich, the big mega-star of the big mega-metal-band gives this man 10 minutes for this interview. And in the end he is talking 30 minutes about it. Thats what I like about this guy. He could choose to not give a shit and just do an average interview within these 10 minutes but because he loves what hes doing an how that is related to such bands like Anvil that "never made it" he ends up talking on for the triple original planned time span. He is not only a rational guy, he is an emotional metal-fan also - still, after 110 million Metallica-records sold. Nice guy.
Well said. You can't have that kind of knowledge and passion and not be totally invested in the craft of what it is that you do.
wish he could play drums as amazingly as his skill at never shutting the fuck up
@@bigfrankfraser1391😂😂😂
Say what you want about him but Lars sure knows his metal
Sometimes!
100% no doubt about that!
He doesn't even know why they fill stadiums with idiots while other equally high level metal bands fail or dont get the fans.
He's a rich fool
He not only knows metal, he founded a band that invented an entire sub-genre of metal.
@@gauge6513 he knows, he knows a lot of underground shit u have no clue about
Lars allways sound so honestly interrested in bands and the whole scene...still after all those years.
Lars is not a metal historian only, he is THE eye witness, and one of those who created that history. who have taken note in his brain of every detail that happened around that time. Always great and informative to watch his interviews.
Lars may just be the most interesting man in the world. Not a big big fan but I just sat thru the whole entire f***ing 30 min interview. Very rare someone speaks from the heart. Awesome interview
manny1364 if you think Lars is interesting, you should check out Stewart Copeland from The Police. Hes another drummer who can really immerse you with their words
Rob Reiner to THIS DAY!! is a drummer that can consistently, teach, deliver the goods & DO!! what a young drummer in any band can muster ALL in the name of having fun in METAL!!!.. very VERY underated drummer.🥁🤘
Totally agree…and not an Anvil fan. He’s lightning fast and his fills are surprisingly tasteful for music that’s otherwise pretty pedestrian. I found a YT vid of him soloing… crazy good with that matched grip!
Lars Ulrich knows a lot about 80's Metal!!! He's Danish and was a huge fan of N.W.O.B.H.M. He really was into Heavy Metal back then.
That last bit between Lars and the director is one of the greatest things I have watched in the history of RUclips.
Great to hear him mention Y&T and Triumph.
I love how Lars has "10 minutes" and it turns into 30+.

@@angelapalmaperalta3474 cheers for the gibberish
I really appreciate what Lars has said about ANVIL. His analysis of the music industry of the day and where things were going in terms of general direction VS an out-stander in the crowd was Bang On. I remember seeing Anvil Live @ a Place Called "The Fairville Tavern" in Saint John N.B. in 1981 and being shuddered to the core @ the energy of the band. What Lars says about the band earning their status is also correct. They did put in the mileage. Thank you Lars for being so honest in your interview about Us Canadians. May Hard Rock And Metal Live Forever. This is our voice against the Lies of the Government And The 1 % controlling Wealth.
Lars so awsome for him take time out of a hectic schedule and say something nice about anvil for their movie. Heck that might help increase some record sales.
This was for the movie. So, unless people are feeling obscure nostalgic then maybe it just might help with record sales!
lol no doubt anvil still didn't make it.
Lars Ulrich always sounds like he has something stuck in his teeth or smething
It's a broken piece of those toothpicks he chews

really great interview from Lars, I was there for the whole ride as a teenager, even had both Anvil AND Metallica on my denim vest at the same time....by the way Anvil is from my area, I'm soo proud
OMG he could ramble on and on and on and on and on….. but in really do love Lars! He’s my favorite rockstar!😂❤️
It's cool that he's still such a metal nerd! gotta respect Lars for keeping the passion after all the years,
Say what you want about Lars. However, he is a very deep and interesting man, extremely well-read on a plethora of topics. Excellent interview!
I've just realised that Lars is the doppelgänger of Michael Keaton!!
Dude I can't stop laughing man - I never noticed that until I just saw your comment and he does look just like him man!!!!!
@@rockstarrockstar3986 He's like Keaton with a huge forehead.
OMGGGGGG MY MIND JUST BLEW HAHAJA
Yup, he is Beetlejuice.
Can you imagine him as Batman?
He's go so much knowledge of music, it's refreshing. He's like a damn musicologist with all his information and eloquent rhetoric. Not a fan of Metallica post Justice but I give the guy credit.
Anvil and Raven really were the first speed metal bands. Both bands the first and last to reap the benefits.
Can we also agree that Lars was right about Napster!?
Yes
Music sharing killed album sales and that is the reason concert tickets have gotten ridiculously expensive!! Bands don’t earn the income from album sales so the tours have to make up for the lost revenue.
Yes. One of the few times he was right.
He was
I remember being a kid, visiting family in so cal somebody had metal on metal.... that's what got me hooked on fucking metal..... they deserve a spot in the hall of fame
Same thing happened to RIOT, from NYC, hardly anyone mentions them and they were awesome. Metallica considered once doing a RIOT cover, they should go ahead and do it!
Lars sounds very well versed in early 80's Canadian Rock/Metal. I'm surprised... and impressed.
me too i was like wtf was he born in toronto. lol no then the would have mentioned darby mills and the headpins or lee aaron the metal queen or helix
Some great metal bands came out here in Canada. Anvil indeed are metal legends. I grew up in this era and I heard saw a lot bands.
He’s in the biggest metal band in the world of course he would know. When ur a touring musician you meet so many other bands that’s ur life.
He’s got one hell of a talent to remember names, venues, dates. Marylou Henner territory. Ask him today a date asking where he was, what he’s doing, and you’ll likely get an accurate answer.
Love Lars. He's a great interview.

Awesome. Thank you, Lars. Long Live Anvil.
Lars has one of the most underrated brains in the rock world.
This man is smart. Where would Metallica be without Lars?
I dunno but what if they had someone way better? They'd probably be in a similar place but be more fun to listen to. Like Lombardo with Metallica. That'd be awesome
@@KT-cz7rm That's a hard one...
Without Ulrichs social skills and logistic brain, would they even exist?
@@KT-cz7rm They would definitely not be in a similiar place without Lars. Lars is the business man of Metallica, Lars only is arranging basically every song in the studio etc etc.. Lars is very underrated and people still think it's cool to bash on Lars, pathetic tbh.
@@KT-cz7rmars is beyond a drummer he’s a visionary Lombardo was a great drummer but he’s no Lars
The big 4 actually refers to Lars' forehead.
You know big forhead isnt bæd, hæææ.
its not that big. i think your seeing the top of his head as as forehead when its just a recessing hairline

Yep great brains👌
YOU SHOULD BE SO LUCKY TO HAVE LARS FAME !🙄😏
It's nice to hear Lars voice lol so soothing
His lip smacking makes me wanna hit him
Lars is amazing in this interview. Very inspiring video.
A whole half hour of Lars Ulrich searching for the right soundbyte. Can you watch it all?
Maybe one of the few interviews with Ulrich that's really pretty cool and interesting to watch.
15:08 he hit the nail on the head, the isolation of being Canadian. So many Canadian bands set the trend. The US and Brit bands were listening and they had the market, so they would run with everything. Anvil was happy to be popular with their pears and their base, really true pioneers
Bingo. And being Canadian that pisses me off. Anvil and Annihilator are a perfect example of that
I met them two years ago and they are good and nice guys. They sign everything I had and bought at the show. Great band and persons
no prob! I was very surprised that no one had uploaded it yet! Anvil rocks! the story of Anvil was an excellent film.
This is the only time I like listening to Lars. His knowledge of hard rock and metal history is great.
Surprised Lars mentioning bands like Teaze and Moxy. Everyone talks about more well known Canadian bands like Anvil, Rush or whatever, but seems Lars knows a little bit about Canadian rock from the 70s.
He Forgot to Mention Annihilator a great Thrash Metal Band!! Oh and NICKELBACK too lol xD
+LongDrivesAtNight Teaze was my first concert.
dean mccaskill Cool. I was born in 73 so I missed out on a lot of 70s fun. 80s made up for some of it I guess..lol. I'm not sure where you live so you may already know this.....there used to be a show called Pawnathon here in Canada, much like Pawn Stars in the US. I had no idea, until the other day when someone told me, that Mark Bradac on the show, was the guitar player with Teaze back in the day.
+LongDrivesAtNight N.B. But yeah it was Teaze and Toronto. But April Wine Harder Faster tour was the one that sticks out maybe a year later.
+LongDrivesAtNight He comes of as cocky to a lot of people because he's actually a very smart person. There are plenty of intelligent metal musicians and fans, but a lot of them are also idiot meat heads. The morons who can't stand a guy who reads books and listens to Motorhead just call Lars a jerk because they can't handle a thoughtful discussion.
hahaha, guy at the end is like "Oh Lars, that was so BEAUTIFUL", and Lars is like "..uh...yeah, sure, np man....."
Lars is just cool af.. I really hope he has met and hung out with Anvil by now 💥🤘🤘🤘
You guys are the bomb loved your movie crown two each you guys went thru it so enjoy love yall
Y&T is a great live band. Never seen them put on a bad show. They should have been bigger.
Not one single band who appeared in that flick praising and claiming to dig Anvil ever took Anvil on the road with them.
nope.
Cuz they're signed to corporations that wont have them on.
Hey, Diamond Head was an awesome band and never got huge. Bugdie was an awesome band but never got huge. Canandian, Razor and Exciter are awesome but never got huge. Shit happens.
he was around during the beginning and whether i like him or his music, he knows his shit and hearing him lay the truth out about anvil is fun.
c`mon Metallica ... put Anvil out of their misery - take them with you on tour!
Yeah that would finish off the lame horse that is Anvil real fast....
@@Patrick_0n Oh, cmon
wow you are exactly right about that . Have watched both dude since the 80'd and never realized it . Right on
made my day !!!!
He loves all these bands that never made it big yet never took them on tour
Especially now, Metallica could easily host a "Festival of the Forgotten" or something like that and invite their favorite lesser known influences.
Anvil did Open for Metallica in Singapore back in 2014 I think

Lars said once that the crowd just wasnt that into whoever they brought on tour and that it was a major bummer for the bands recieving that negative energy from a whole stadium of people.. I really dont get the constant hate on Lars. The dude was completely right about Napster too, look at the music business now..
Lars is a genius.
The only thing that matters is that new anvil s álbum is coming this january
great interview...
Say what you want about Lars but he is a dyed in the wool historian of metal!

Streeheart! Thx. The grand band of Saskatchewan.
Say what you will about Lars's drumming; I personally think it's okay dunno why everyone hates it, but you can definitely hear the influence of Anvil and Robb Reiner in musicians like Lars.
His drumming isn't horrible. Just his mixing skills and his shitty ass attitude
Robb Reiner might have influenced his drumming but Lars isn't half the drummer Robb is. Fact.
@@stevenhall2477Lars is a caveman drummer but it makes Metallica sound better, and Lars during the 80s was a beast.
agreed. would love to see a doc on them, too.
Hey, I learned what Y&T stands for!! Thanks Lars!

the lip smacking.....
Lars is hilarious, lol. What a great interview.

Anvil is Metal. All their albums are #1 for me. No other bands can touch them. Some band should go and listen some Anvil again to hear how to be metal again. Anvil is the best
Did they ever let en open for them ?acdc did?
very cool
I saw Y & T open for Dio on the "Holy Diver" tour and they were excellent☆
The thumbnail made me think of him saying *"Umm.."*
no prob! thanx for watching
Very Cool
Y&T, like Anvil, another underrated band
Thanks for posting. When this was filmed?
@kaffalp
... they did. They've had Anvil open for them a few times now, actually.
One of lars best Statements 👍👍👍🫶🫶🫶🤘🤘🤘
Anvil isn't NWOBHM, they're Canadian.
Lars comes off really good in this interview
I thought it was Billy Crystal for a sec..
He too looks like keaton
I was there with anvil....and Lars said nothing but truth...
Robbo Reinner is probably the only guy that knows ...owns more music....vinyl & CD....in all genres..
I have to agree. All the song's Metallica covered and got inspired by came from Lars. I can only imagine this guy's record collection. He knows a lot about the genre. He can difently school Eddy Trunk.

Lars gets a bad rap.
He is part of what is arguably the most important metal band of all time regarding thrash metal.
Everyone gives him shit but he is smart and I like that he has passion for what he does.
nice vid cheers
"Umm" - Lars Ulrich
Go Watch Anvil Documentary Right Now!!!! no matter you are METAL fan or NOT!
When record labels get involved they usually kill all creativity and want them to immitate whoever is #1 at the time. So many great bands almost died due to the record labels involvment. Just to name a couple would be Rush and Dream Theater, but they told the record labels to back off and let the fans decide, thank God.
Rob is still the metal drummer.
Every drummer need to listen and learn from him

Steave "lips" is a great singer/guitard too 🤘
Rob and Steve 🤘
Metal was actually a youth movement in the late 70s and 80s the way Hip Hop is now it seems (Sadly). In 80s mostly white High Schools pretty much everyone dressed in denim and leather.
Yes lars know the history of metal do to his age as well as forming a band in 1981.
Did Lars just say that Van Halen's music wasn't so good?
