Before the British came, Maori tribes were fighting one another. Between 1800 and 1840, the Maori population had halved through tribal fighting -from 200k to 100k. British brought peace and prosperity, gave Maori the vote decades before white women and over a century before Aborigines. Maori had the right to travel the Empire as British citizens. Still, all that is forgotten as the greed of todays Maori elites can never be satisfied.

"Maori Elite" is a term coined by the Atlas Group, Same that was used in other similar things around the world. People that continue to use it are just pawns to the mega rich group that insert themselves into these types of scenarios for monetary gain. Multiple people from the NZ coalition parties (who had in some cases, 4 times the monetary backing than that of the other major party) have direct links to this group and are pushing its narratives since getting into parliament. So many people screaming with righteous indignation without realizing they are simply doing the bidding of their overlords.

Its about getting back to the original treaty where everyone is equal, not what its been twisted into since the 1980's and the gravy train handouts.
Hugh kawahu redefined the treaty in the 80's, this government wants to undo that waitangi tribunal mistruth. Everyone understood the treaty fine for the first 140years! Its just the last 40 years that the meaning has been twisted into a gravy train

Not the Maori people, just the activists and those on the great race gravy train. The government is not in anyway going to change the Treaty, which they cannot. What they are going to do is give the people a chance to discuss the Treaty principles, which are something that activist judges forced on the country.

There is the sense that these people are victims no so much now because of their history but because it is now their choice of profession in an industry that appears to be solving little and and has almost sent the country broke. @stephenbaker-lemay479 10 месяцев назад +1

The original document first signed by the Chiefs was written in the Māori language of the time and then translated into English, it is the only Document that can be considered as representing the treaty and has been for almost 200 years, the first Chiefs to sign were clearly exceptional people, not only did they recognise their position was untenable but also had the negotiating ability to bring forth such a Document that exists nowhere else, I cannot understand why their names are not on buildings and parks all over NZ, I have some experience in negotiating agreements and would love to have my name on this one, there is a prize in this Document that modern activists do not seem to want to use because it means accepting the fact that Sovereignty was ceded, which takes away the Brilliance of these negotiators, or they are just not able to see the prize because of being focused only on some sort of shared Governance, when the original Document was being signed it’s reported that the British recipient said that now we are one people, the Chiefs would have known exactly what he was saying, they were far more intelligent than they are being given credit for.@@Camwin

@KimberlyQue-fv7ge I got robbed when I sold my first house because the world has changed? Maybe I should get reconciliation for this injustice. If they swapped land for some potatoes and blankets so be it.

If the media could just shut up and let the new government do the job the people asked for, we wouldn't have tension. People in NZ are sick of Maori getting free handouts and now that the new government closed the tap, the activists are crying like babies.......

What are you doing using a white mans phone to txt on here ten? If you want to live the Māori way, you are more than welcome. Just hand over the white peoples privilege and get back to your way of life. You can’t have it both ways. If you are truely 100% Māori, then go and ask Willie Jackson to hand over a grass skirt and live happy ever after in the bush. In other words, stop being a dumb arse and accepted that we are all the same people and everybody has the same rights and responsibilities. There is no such thing as a free lunch, even if your great grandmother may have been 1 / 750 Māori….

@KimberlyQue-fv7ge Oh rubbish!! Where land was stolen (which was over 140 years ago) - that is an issue which has been addressed by current non-maori.
of the 72.000 men who returned from WWI, more than 10,500 men were assisted onto the land by 1924. Thousands of others were given vocational training or assisted into housing. There were criteria for the fram land grant. The only reason most Maori were not granted farm land was because it was before the great migration into the cities and it was assumed that most Maori had tribal land to cultivate. It was not about stealing land at all. It was that Maori had plenty of their own land and would presumably want to live on their own land. They did however get the vocational training and assistance back into civilian life.
Also not a single one of those men of any race returning from WW1 got a single thing for FREE. Show some respect!

Seems to me there is an agreement between two parties, The Crown and Maori in this instance. A "third party" now wants to be included in that agreement without neither signatories' agreement. Doesnt sound at all legal to me. Should take this to the British high court as the representative of the "Crown"

as an oldie i remember during the early 1980's working for a large hardware firm in NZ
at the time the government was under tremendous financial pressure and they had to place severe restictions on spending
as the economy was stuggling big time so were all our builders except for this one builder customer whom was spending like no tomorrow i asked how this was so ?
he told me all his work contracts where with the Maori affairs department and there were no budget restrictions for them
