I joined My vol fire dept upstate NY in 1982 and its 2022 and I'm still here and I wouldn't change it for nothing in the world, the brotherhood Is a special bond from around the world and all the county's I've met in all over NY state in NJ CT pa what a great bunch of men and women I've met but I'm getting up there in years, but I don't want to let my community down the best thing you can do is to help someone in need at their worst time in need. and one other thing don't be that person that says what took you so long, maybe you should stop by your local firehouse and sign up and we can make are response time a lot Quicker

Volunteer firefighter EMT 33 years Lemoore fire,🔥 on call 24/7 and we have our regular jobs. I have my business. Mostly everybody in agriculture department and are farmers construction workers, workers from the fire chief to the first assistant chief to the second assistant, chief to the 37th man nobody has paid. We are strictly volunteer run calls all day long all night long. It takes a very dedicated person to be a volunteer firefighter 35 members no females that will be changing though in the near future it been that way for 100 years

Most of these Long Island communities have some of the highest tax bases in NY. How can they still not have paid departments??

Is it really worth it though I've been through some stuff and also have class a qualifications but I've noticed a lot of the fds are full of clicks if you have the wrong person at the wrong time they will not give you a recommendation honestly sometimes it might be a backstabbing situation Neymar you have to give up about 2 years of your life to do just the training and hope you pass for myself I had to do it for 4 years but I passed and got in I got in because I lost my parents the young age and I thought that was going to be a good organization to get into and there were definitely some backlashes with the

Hate to say it but most volunteer companies in the country are going to have to be consolidated into paid fire departments. This volunteer stuff was for back in the day but with the economy young people can’t hope to survive. Even with a college degree which can help your future employment, our young generation is in trouble.

@@paulmusyk4lyfe51 where this video is taking place on Long Island it’s never going to become fully paid mostly because the taxes in the area are already so high. There is also no written structure on a County Paid Fire, Dept in New York State. There will always be people to fill the roles. It won’t be as much people as it was years ago what departments need to do is learn to do more with less.

Most places are volunteer because the municipality cannot simply afford to pay for a fully paid house. The call volumes are going up but the people just are not showing up anymore. Money makes the world go round
