i like to think L felt comfort in his last moments knowing he was right the entire time
He knows he’s right, but he realizes that everyone around him turned against him, so he feels defeated regardless.
@@Dracogame lol no i dont think thats the reason. L has already said this before, but he's been 100 percent sure that light is kira. The true problem is that L, without legal evidence, cant arrest Light. He just doesnt have the evidence to provide everyone solid proof that light is kira
@@Dracogame lol no
@@GodModeMotivate yeah I agree with you here
Could be. Unlike Light, he wasnt a patricularly emotional man. He operated rationally at all times and didnt have attachments. Light needed to prove something and was moved a lot by his ego and arrogance. By contrast L left emotions out of the equation. If HE had found the Deathnote and decided to use it, nobody would even notice anything for a few years. Even when they did, there would be no "Kira". Just a general feeling that crime was falling and career criminals tended to die more often in accidents, from disease, suicide etc. The first guy to even suggest there was something strange happening would probably be some medical statistician and would be laughed at as a conspiracy theorist.
By contrast, Light made it clear something unnatural was happening from the beginning. He WANTED people to know, just not know who or why.
L's "Have you ever told the truth in your entire life?" is still one of the most savage things ever
L: have u told a single truth?
Light: bro everyone fukcing lies get off me-
L: . . .

Nice name
The last scene of L looking at light face before dying with him smiling was so good and sad
I felt kind of bad for L, but he did voluntarily challenge Kira. Too bad he lost fair and square! It was also very kind and altruistic of Light not to insist on killing L himself or even telling him upon his dying moments. Light obviously wants to make the world a better place even at his own expense!
Cocky Villain is a bit satisfying to watch
@@svenpoletka5236 Light had the power of a literal god. So L a human went toe - to - toe with a god and almost beat someone with supernatural powers just with his brain. Imo that’s a win even though he died.
@@sup9023 Yep, and L was even smart enough to expect as much when he challenged Kira to begin with. L knowingly started a losing battle and staked his own life for the first time. And he got very close, but no cigar! Light also defeated an actual god in this very episode.

The fact that L was able to go toe-to-toe with Light despite the HUGE information asymmery is so damn impressive
thats because Light was stupid and told L everything almost immediately
That was super impressive! Too bad he lost the game he started and died.
@@Trathien- Light wasn't stupid. he was arrogant. he could have won since the beginning, but he chose to make Kira a public figure, which led to the events of the anime.
@@at_oussama no he was incredibly stupid
he immediately revealed he had access to police records, making the suspect list from a school student to a school student who is close to someone in the interpol
THEN immediately revealed an incredibly OP ability the death note has JUST to reveal he has access to police records AND on top of that, killed Lind L Taylor
as stupid as it gets, an average high schooler wouldnt make those mistakes

idk kira is best charachter!
L was the best character...
The manga was planned to end at this point, but in a different way, with a final confrontation between L and Light.
But the authors were asked to extend the story so here it is...
Honestly, I prefer the original, intended ending, which is detailed below, not sure if it counts as spoilers cause it never happens in the anime, but anyway
.
.
.
Basically, L would have written his own name on the death note, but scheduled his death for about a month in the future.
Then Light would have "killed" him but that's part of L's plan and Light would be exposed in front of everyone as the maniac he is admitting he is Kira and thinking that he won while L plays dead.
After Light's demise, L would still have a few last days to live and that's it.
That sounds like a much better ending actually.
@@logancapes only if we get the manga panels of Light shamelessly pleading for Ryuk to kill L and Ryuk killing Light without mercy.
The anime ending? Lackluster..
That's the end for me from now on. I like that a thousand times better. Can anyone draw this or write it as a manga chapter? :D
That's the end of Death Note movie in 2006 one of the most popular and well performed anime adoptions.
WAY BETTER.
We get to hear L's final thoughts in the Manga, Looking up at Light's evil smirk, it reads:
"Light Yagami, I knew it...I wasn't wrong....But I...."
just one phenomenal curiosity, the scene of L wiping Light feet was a reference to Jesus wiping Judas feet
Came here to say exactly this.
Could also be the other way around. A stoned prostitute also wiped the feet of Jesus. But wiping feet is very Biblical regardless of the reference they are trying to present, but L clearly feels like a sinner in this situation, or that's what he's putting across
@@CrazeeAdam oooooooh That is also a super compelling and fitting interpretation!
Yeah
Or
_They were roommates_
@@SusieBlup LMFAO I just DIED. Not gonna lie I ship the hell out of them.
Light's main enemy after this episode is himself and himself alone. This scene makes me feel so bad, Ryuzaki is in the rain questioning himself, knowing that he's next, and the bible reference with "washing the feet of judas" just makes it... perfect.
L also died due to his biggest weakness, pride. If not for him continuously trying to question the gods of death (and their notebook) just because he didnt want to admit that he was wrong that light was kira, he would still be alive. L has constantly dodged Lights attempts to kill him, UNTIL he questioned the rules of the gods. Just like how Satan was smited from God for questioning the divine, he too was smited from the god of death. I love the symbolism in this anime
@@2011carp Lol this isn't right at all. How is it prideful for L to question it when he's literally just right? Of course he doesn't wanna admit he's wrong, because he's be letting a mass murderer go free. And L clearly parallels Jesus, not Satan: he has exactly 12 "disciples" (task force members, if you count Misa) whose devotion he tests (not telling them their families would be taken care of to see what they'd choose), and one of those people betrays him leading to his death, but he is aware this will happen and even washes the traitor's feet. In a sense, he's even resurrected in the form of Near.
Light on the other hand has much more in common with Satan/the antichrist/the false prophet (and Judas, as stated above)., from the apple motif to his use of lies and manipulation. In fact the bible says the antichrist remains in power for 42 months (aka 3.5 years) before Christ returns and defeats him, which is exactly how long Light is in charge of the investigation (and police) for, until Near comes along.
yea but kira is a god
Some people like Light, some don't. I personally love the unique idea of having the Protagonist be more of a villain. Very few shows go down that route and do it well. And the absolutely genius plan from the previous episode combined with this one was extremely well thought out. Light manipulated everyone, even himself. And it's a shame. We can see from episodes 17-24 that Light really was a different person without the notebook. He actually had compassion and cared for people. But power corrupts. And absolute power corrupts absolutely. Light cared for people. Light cared for L. Kira did not.
People who don’t enjoy Light’s character are so fucking weird. That’s like watching House of Cards and not enjoying Underwood’s character. Literally everything entertaining about the show stems from Light being a pos.
Light clearly cared for people since he kept cleaning the world and helping millions for years after this. And the creator confirmed light loved his family and good people in general.
@@Vivian-sf4ny a character being fun to watch and loving when they're on screen is definitely different from liking them as a person. I fucking hate the conniving idealistic cocky little shit that Light is, but man is he an interesting and fun character to watch, doubly so when he's interacting with L and playing everyone around him
@@gnoogie you’re arguing nothing dude. The guy said “light as a character” not “light as a person”.
@@rycrgarcia I'd wager people have conflated the two quite frequently when talking about "liking" a character. I just thought I'd make the distinction for anyone that might've misconstrued this before, not necessarily trying to argue anything. Just giving my two cents cuz that's what came to mind lol. Maybe it reads a little confrontational. If so, my bad
Interesting thing I noticed on my first Death Note REwatch. Idt this episode is about L knowing he’s going to die. It’s dark and rainy and we imagine that L is acting so solemn because he feels he is nearing his death. But I actually think he is solemn because he feels he is nearing the end of his time with Light. Because he knows if he can prove the 13 day rule to be fake, than he can make the case against Light. So he’s mourning the loss of his closest friend. He is surprised when Rem kills him. He doesn’t expect the Shinigami would have any reason to kill Jim because he doesn’t know about Rem and Misa’s relationship. L is sad in this episode because he thinks he’s about to win.
Interesting read of the situation, and it's a completely valid interpretation.
That's exactly what I initially thought. I wondered "Does this mean L was telling the truth when he told Light that he was his first friend?" Though I simultaneously believe he knew what was coming, and that he had lost the war; it wasn't just a battle this time.
no, this is not it. the theory that L thinks of Light as a friend is not only confirmed false, but L actually feels high disgust for Light. he is indeed depressed because he knows he's going to die, and he knows he won't be the one to convict Kira due to lack of evidence.
Yeah, the writer confirmed L was lying when he said he thought of Light as a friend. He knew he was out of options here.
This episode is a M A S T E R P I E C E. Everything about it is phenomenal. The direction, editing, animation, acting, music. Everything. Personally, this is one of my favorite episode of any anime ever.

I found L wiping Light's feet scene very sad, it's like he was trying to connect with him on a human level, up close and personal. The fact the Light also returns the favor by wiping L's hair goes to show how insanely psychotic he really is.
I'm glad L at least died knowing he had it right, that it was Light all along.

The master manipulator used his enemies against each other. He mentioned that Rem is a greater and more urgent threat compared to L.
Rem is also dumb. Rem could have collaborates with L in exchange for Misa’s safety. She’s a fucking god of death, she had leverage.

The first time I watched the series a long time ago, I hated it from this point forward, but after watching it again recently, I realized I was just butthurt and sad that L died. Just try not to sulk much over L's death and be warned that the series gets a lot more fast paced from this point forward, which turns a lot of people off. The L and Light dynamic may be gone for the most part, but the spirit of the show is still there. I hope you give it a chance, it is completely worth it.
In terms of the manga, I think this was exactly halfway through the story that L died, which would mean the next 54 chapters got adapted in only 12 episodes. I still have yet to read through the manga myself properly, but I wonder if we will ever see a re-animation to see this second half adapted properly.
Nah, final act really is kinda mid
@@Leon-dl7hf Exactly. L dying is fine, but the entire style and mood of the series changes from here on. That's why people don't like it. I was expecting a new L to come in (which would have been just fine) but not smart duo dynamics to give way to weird action adventure. L wasn't the best of the show, The smart, intense detective-criminal chess game was and it ends here. Anyway, I definitely want them to watch until the end because they need to see the whole thing, just saying. It's not about L. Second part is just a downgrade, imo.
I just wish the manga set up L's background and the Wammy house earlier, or even hinted at M & N's existence earlier. It feels like they came from nowhere, the change is very abrupt
I've seen a lot of people scream and cry during this episode.
But you stunned silence, after seeing L's flashback at the start setting the tone... it really says it all.

Whoever thinks Light was smarter than L is the most deluded person🙄💀. L was restrained by Law whilst Light didn't care. L wouldn't be caught even by Mello and Near together working with Light💀
Don't forget L always have a plan 😉
L Lawliet was the name of "L"
I always felt that Rem wasn't in love with Misa so much as she was in love with the other shinigami who was in love with Misa
think there was some guilt potentially... If Misa were to die , then Gellus had died for nothing thanks to Rem not protecting her..
Nah
何だかんだ言って次回もとんでもないエピソードだよね。
For Explanation to the scene At 10:35 When L washes light’s feet !!
Just before Light has Rem kill L, L receives prophecies of his death in the forms of images and dreams (more than once). In the same way, Jesus prophesied (more than once) that He would be betrayed and killed. Also, Jesus washes the feet of His disciples, including Judas-just before they latter betrayed Him. In the same way, L washes Light's feet after their conversation in the rain on lying (although this scene was only in the anime, not the original manga).

This episode is a masterpiece. It's so well directed. it's one of my favorite episodes of an anime ever.Light's plan was perfect, he managed to defeat everyone who was in his way, even the shinigami, he really is a genius
I agree with you. A character as great as L dying for the sake of Misa is hard to stomach.
It’s not really for the sake of Misa. Light had to save Misa in order to save himself. Light was playing a chess game and making all his moves to get to that exact moment where L would use the notebook for solid proof. In doing that, he forced Rem to save Misa by killing L, but it was total self preservation by Light.

@@Rajon313 ahh my bad. Seen a ton of first time watchers missing things and I misinterpreted your comment. @@duckingllama no problem. I agree, they should have fleshed it out way more. Not that I'd ever be okay with it tho
@@duckingllama in the musical they establish that rem is curious about this thing humans call "love". she meets misa and she concludes love is for "mortals and fools", since misa wants to shorten her lifespan just to meet someone she claims to love. then she realizes she's fallen in love with misa when she's erasing her memories. light takes advantage of this and rem knows he wants her to write l's name (only l, since watari is adapted out) to save misa, which ryuk, in a rare moment of genuine kindness, warns her not to do (by singing her own words back to her). she obviously ends up doing it anyway. it's honestly my favorite portrayal of rem.

In my opinion this is this show's only (and big) mistake. Yes, killing L was a mistake. The show isn't totally ruined, but it does make a turn downwards after this point. It becomes significantly worse. L should be the main antagonist to our protagonist up until the end of the show. There's a Japanese live-action movie that makes an alternate ending for the story, which, in my opinion, is a much better finale than the anime's: (SPOILER AHEAD)
L writes his own name on the death note stating that "L Lawliet will die 23 days from this date", so when Rem writes his name on her notebook, nothing happens, then Kira is caught. Pretty smart.
Why do you spoil the live-action movie? They (and other people here) might want to check that movie out.

Good that they stuck with the usual 24/25 episodes. Perfect time to end it and epic last episode.
@@pkpk1527 The anime cut 10 episodes of content from manga and changed Near's character completely from the source material. Not to mention that ending it like this would of been the most nothing and unsatisfying conclussion. This broke my heart as a teenager because I shipped Light and Ryuzaki so hard! That foot washing scene was so touching mixed with a healthy dose of, "I mean, if that's what you're into buddy I guess" and a biblical metaphor all in one. Also you see L at his most vulnerable and you see Light GENUINELY thrown. He had no idea what to do in that situation, but you can tell he feels SOMETHING for L. In his twisted serial killer mentality, L is the only one on his level. He respects him. Just in a twisted way.

One frustrating thing about the structure of this show is that you spend the yotsuba arc slowly looking forward to the return of Kira-Light vs L dynamic that was so engrossing in the first 16 episodes, only for the show to end that dynamic 1 episode after it returns. I think that’s one of the reasons it feels too early for L to die.

I honestly hate how everyone suddenly became dumb as fuck in order to let Light get away with it.
Rem had many other options, the first one was to fuck Light up to save Misa, considering Misa’s life went to shit the moment she met Light. If she really cared she would have taken the death note away from her.
The rest of the crew instantly forget what L has been saying and doing and just give up control of the investigation to the 19yo first suspect. They didn’t even went through with the test L arranged.
And people still claim the odds were against Light.

Even tho I've disagreed with u guys on some things about this show, i still love ure guys reactions, but It's hilarious seeing how salty ya'll got that light won 😂
Trueeee 😂
They’ll have the last laugh tho. Smoke that near pack
Light won this battle but lost the war
what did you disagree about?
Not for long.
Ladies can you pls remove the letter “a”

8:23 I don't really get this sentence. The ONLY human here? What about Light's father, Matsuda, Aizawa and the L as well. What have they done to lost their human status??
One of the greatest chapters and greatest episodes in Anime history. From the first seconds of the episode you knew this was different. And the fact that L can rest in peace because he knew who Kira was at the end is what L fans needed. He knew exactly why he died, and Light confirmed it with that smile, for old times sake. Until now got the same feeling from the time I watched it 15 years ago
Can u try demon slayer pls , s2 just ended and it was fire and. I love your reactions so I rlly wanna see u react to it . If u like aot, u'll like DS as well
Buena reacciona l&m saludos desde El Salvador 🇸🇻
l was waiting for the funeral scene
Nothing brings me better joy than watching L fans react to episode 25 🤣🤣🤣
You're so edgy

THE END IS NEAR
Please watch the cut scene before episode 26 where Light and the others mourn L in the graveyard. This will help you understand his character more.
For me the quality of the show dropped after this episode.
The last 2 episodes were great , but everything from ep 26-35 were not as good as the rest of the show.
Best episode of the show by far
You guys should watch Monster by Naoki Urasawa. It makes you question morality like death note and AOT.
Sadly i don't think it's popular enough to ever win one of their patreon polls compared to normie anime like demon slayer or fullmetal alchemist, but yes i think they would love it.
Priceless and speechless reaction. Thank you, girls.
"How can the show continue without L?" By going downhill from here. ;)
This episode is a masterpiece. Such a good ending to the show.
Lol
yep, Light won and changed the world.
For me this is the ending of death note
Do you plan watching Demon Slayer?
You two need to watch something hopeful. I recommend Death Parade. The opening is so 🔥 👌 😍.
light did nothing wrong
The washing feet scene felt weirdly romantic to me. I was so confused (and strangely pleased?)
Gay awakening?
