I have been watching ATWT since these days. Without a doubt the greatest soap of them all. The Hughes family and the Stewarts, wow such great memories.
I watch this when I think of my mom Ruth...She stated watching this from day 1 til the end !!! I am 58 and started watching in the 90s. Mom was so heartbroken when it went off the air...
Wow. Wish there were more of these eps out there. Thanks for sharing these. My mother was such a huge fan of this show throughout the 1960s. She was pregnant with me at time Lisa was pregnant with Tom, although Tom was a full grown adult by the time I was 8 or 9. Can't wait to see more.
Once on the Carol Burnett Show, it was Parodied as "As The Stomach Turns" and on the 70's Kids Show ZOOM, it was known as "As The World Zooms". with the "Organ Music".
To pinpoint it further, this episode was on a Tuesday since there was a mention of "The Tom Ewell Show tonight over most of these stations". Per Wikipedia, that show had alternate sponsors of P&G and Quaker Oats. On this ATWT clip, Quaker Oats was the sponsor; am wondering if P&G sometimes shared sponsorship with them on ATWT? The episode that night would have been one of the final episodes: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tom_Ewell_Show
clips like this one are great-this is what the soap operas are all about-the organ music background-this is what i remember-my grandmother watched these every day-she just passed away in august-a tribute to her.
Lisa paved the way for the great vixens of later years---ANOTHER WORLD's Rachel, ALL MY CHILDREN's Erica, EDGE OF NIGHT's Raven, YOUNG AND RESTLESS' Phyllis and BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL's Brooke.
The original house hasn't been seen since and before Nancy and Chris left for Arizona(?) I think in the early 80's--when they came back home in '85 they live in Bob and Kim's garage---That's when Bob and Kim's house be came the always seen home for ATWT Patc
So this was between 9/60 and 6/61... Now I can see why Ellen always hated Lisa! And Lisa is so sickly sweet with "Mother" and "Father." Lots of fun. ATWT had such strong female characters even early on.
You are so right-- Remember when Lisa used to say that to Carly and to Julie--she used to love the bad girls because she was one lol And the next clips I post from this time period You will see even more of a Physical resemblance --Coming soon
Yes, I wondered that myself; you probably know that ATWT was done live until 1975 when it expanded to an hour which is when they switched the tape. Perhaps this was done from a kinescope that could have been shown later in the day on the West Coast?
Daniel is Tom Hughes' son via Emily. Susan is Em's mother/Daniel's maternal grandmother. Bob and Lisa are his paternal grandparents. Daniel is named after his maternal grandfather, Dan Stewart. Dan and Susan divorced in the early 1970s.
Wow, this is such a trip to watch...Too bad we didn't get to see "Dr. Bob" in these clips, but it was good to hear his voice :-) Thanks for sharing this!
Sadly, that would be difficult because there are very few of these early episodes that are available. They were broadcast live in those days, and so other than a few that were copied on kiniscope as they were broadcast, like this one, not many episodes exist. ATWT and fellow P&G show "Edge of Night" were the last soaps to switch to tape, which they did in 1975. However, even then not many tapes were saved, and they oftentimes simply recorded new episodes over the tape, to save a bit of money.
Mar Thivierge Correction CBS does have every episode of the show in the Archives, They will Release it on A DVD set sometime soon. I Heard this from a CBS Representative
You are correct - it along with fellow P&G soap "The Edge of Night" debuted on CBS on 4/2/1956 as the first soaps to debut in 30 minute formats. In 1975 when CBS wanted to expand ATWT to an hour they wanted to ditch TEON but P&G wanted it to continue so they got ABC to start airing it. However, ABC couldn't immediately find room for it on its schedule so CBS & P&G worked out waiting until December 1975 when ABC had room for TEON so it could be moved there while ensuring flawless continuance of the storyline before expanding ATWT to an hour plus switching from a live show to a taped show.
I think Oakdalian posted a 1978 episode-- I have the wedding of Ellen and David-- I guess it would be their second wedding after David got his memory back- The video is not that great but I will post-- if you want
Lisa Miller Hughes of the 1960's is very much like Carly Snyder is today. There is even a resemblance. Funny thing is they are not friends because they are just alike.
Patc2000: please post any episodes you have from the 70's and thanks for the memories of when the world really turned. Shame on Chris Goutman and Jean Passanante for the awful mess they're putting out now!
Thanks SoapCritic-- have uploaded more clips Check out the new video responces(not the best video though) I do have some of Radio episodes from GL too I'll keep on posting
I do--Just haven't uploaded yet-- You have the seen the video reponse above-- Danny Is Mine? I will try to post more soon Grand kids are coming to stay this week lol So don't look for it for about a week or two Pat
As The World Turns and The Edge Of Night premiered on the same day April 2, 1956 as the first half hour serials.
Nancy and Lisa did not always see eye to eye, but they truly loved each other and were always there for each other.
I have been watching ATWT since these days. Without a doubt the greatest soap of them all. The Hughes family and the Stewarts, wow such great memories.
A much loved soap through the years.
My grandmother loved this one!
Tragic this show has been lost to the ages.
This is better drama than anything on daytime today!
Thats certainly true!!!
NelsonAspen agreed. I'd much rather watch these clips that any soaps on now
I watch this when I think of my mom Ruth...She stated watching this from day 1 til the end !!! I am 58 and started watching in the 90s. Mom was so heartbroken when it went off the air...

Nancy....when in doubt, make coffee!
A way of doing things more people today should do when times get stressed and uptight.. make coffee!

I remember Raven as a 70's kid.
I would spend big bucks for anything with Penny and Jeff in it--
Pat
I'll be posting some more --today--Lisa Nancy Chris and Grandpa Hughes
This shows just how old the show was! Lisa was pregnant with Tom here and he was middle-aged when the show ended!
waterlilyqueen he was a grandfather by the time the show ended. Or would've been or could've i dunno
The original house hasn't been seen since

Boy, did this bring back memories!
So this was between 9/60 and 6/61...

This is a Wednesday episode, as Quaker Oats did indeed sponsor "THE TOM EWELL SHOW" on CBS during its sole season on Wednesday nights (1960-'61)...

Before she became "flighty"

Now this is a vintage gem! Many thanks. I wonder why there's an image reading "this program was pre-recorded. Wasn't everything live then?
They did the show live, but the West Coast might have gotten it tape-delayed, so the live performance was recorded.
I think this was the first soap to air for
30 minutes --and started out that way--
Please correct me if I'm wrong

I thought Lisa and Carly were friends.
Yes very much but eileen is prettier.
Interesting that Lisa's father is named Henry Miller.
Half-sisters. Dan Stewart was their father.

Hmmmm...seems to me that with all the shouting between the two women, they would have *had* to have heard by the others in the house!

That's probably it!
The young Eileen Fulton reminds me of Chloe Abbott on Y&R
what's with the organ in the background??
Classic soap music.
Isn't Emily & Betsy sisters?
lisa is so young! she's been on this show forever.
man, she was sure a flake back then.
I would prefer to see more Nancy, Lisa, Kim, Susan, Dr. Bob, and Emma---although I do adore Will, Luke and Noah.
my mother was named after her
OK Give me a couple of days
@Soapking1965 Yes, very true.
They would if they were smart lol
