My drama teacher says the same thing about forensics tournaments but he said to be late is to be left since we all go in a van or bus together at like 6 am and it's great
My audition for The Wizard of Oz was the same day my school did Sweeney Todd. And I was Sweeney + the director, so I showed up in my barber clothes, auditioned and hurried to the show just in time. It was so weird playing dorothy dressed like a man from the XIX century but you know what... I got the role!!
-Step outside your comfort zone if asked to; Same audition, the guy asked me to sing the song in a higher key than I had been. I told him I didn't think I could do that, but tried anyway. He ended up casting me with one of the main parts which had super low songs.
My friend was asked to sing Memory for a Cats audition even though she really didn’t believe she could do it but she did it anyway because the directors believed she could and she ended up being cast as Grizabella and she did so amazing every single night!
You probably have already done a video about this but I would like to see a video about how to find casting calls for younger aspiring actors. Love your channel! 🎭🤗👍🏻
My class just auditioned for our next show and i didnt make it in as a lead.. im super cool with tht but do you think it is okay to talk to the director about wht i could have done differently or to improve? Its for my musical theatre studies and i dont want to be a pain or unprofessional xx
+Caitie Gillett Depends on the context. If this is a teacher (like, a school teacher) and you're very close to them and they're okay with giving feedback, then maybe. Personally, I wouldn't because it makes directors super uncomfortable, it's unprofessional, and a big chunk of the time it was something that was out of your control. If you haven't seen this yet, I'd recommend checking it out: ruclips.net/video/wkc6YZPQXjE/видео.html lots of love!! Xx 💖🌟💕
I've been in this funk lately where my acting has felt and looked super unnatural. My acting has basically been really bad lately and I need to get over it. I have a show (a play) in 3 weeks and need to get out of this funk! Any tips you have would be amazing!
+Wesley Davis hey wesley!! Totally got you-- just be true to what your character would do. This requires some extra searching & analysis. Here's how I do it: ruclips.net/video/C8cPd9Hd6ww/видео.html
Wesley Davis you can look up Stanislavsky and try some of his techniques as he is a naturalistic practitioner (if you don’t already know who he is of course). One of these techniques is drawing in your own emotions and relating them to the character you are playing in any way you can. Although this could sometimes make a persons acting too themselves and not enough like the character, it can really help you to not be over the top/forced with your acting Sincerely, someone else who acts melodramatically a little too often 😂
I was in the same place a few weeks ago! My tip is this: If your playing when a character is sad, think or a sad memory. When a character is angry, think of an angry memory, and so on. this helped me,so best of luck!
I don't know if you are capable of doing so yourself, but I'd be really interested in knowing what strategies to use to try and cry or get really emotional on stage ( I mostly wanna know how to cry on cue lol)
Teagan Reynolds on my spare time I like acting and singing to myself and so sometimes if I get really into character and really feel like that certain person I notice tears come to my eyes but everyone is different. Maybe think about a very sad memory or think about a loved one dying ( might make you feel awful but it gets you in the moment). You'll find out how in your own way
+Teagan Reynolds hey teagan 🌟 there are a lot of "tricks" on crying (ie. thinking of something really personally sad, using a cry stick, etc.). When I need to cry, I just try to get really into the scene and let the tears come naturally. If they don't come, then they don't come. I personally think it looks really obvious when a performer is crying for the sake of crying--it comes out of nowhere and doesn't really serve their performance haha 💕
Teagan Reynolds for me I don't think about sad things like people say, it takes to long and distracts you and it may cause you to forget your lines. if you look straight ahead, maybe at a bright light it usually comes for me, I know everyone is different.
Finally it's theatre Thursday!! I was wondering, if you're a person with no experience but you audition for your first show, does that mean your resume will be blank since you have no experience from before? Hope that made sense! Thanks Kat! ❤
I love you videos and you channel so much💕 Thank you for being so dedicated. I've been meaning to ask what you think about the "Started too late" saying, i'm a junior in high school and i'm only now doing my first play, do you think it's late to consider going to an art college/choosing this profession as my job?
+Janice Waddles hey Janice! 💖🌟 thank YOU for being so sweet! You can totally do this professionally--you just need to play a little catch up in terms of the training/experience/knowledge departments, but it's totally doable! 😊
I've been binging your videos today and they are all super helpful!! I also love how if there is something that people may still need to learn how to do better, there's already been a video covered on that subject so it is easy for us to find that stuff out without having to search it up or wait a week for you to upload something on it. Hey! Yesterday was my audition for "of gods and cows" at my school. I have made myself very useful towards the directors this year, helping them in anyway possible. (Not to get a good role but because I love the company of my directors, they are 2 of my favorite people) while in my audition I was using good projection and really playing my character which I feel has lacked in former auditions and even though this definitely helps in casting, I am quite nervous for the cast list, I really feel if I get a good role I can really prove myself! I'll keep you updated with casting and how it goes! You are since an inspiration to me and I love your channel (in choir someone said my voice sounded like sierra bogges and I was freaking out)💗♥️
Please continue to share acting tips and tricks! How do you balance work and school?! Encouragement!! It is deeply appreciated. I aim to watch all your videos so I can learn as much as you do, and therefore be as successful :) You're incredible!
Hey, you have literally saved my life over the past few months so THANK YOU!!💕🙌🏻✨ Is there any chance you could do a video on staying healthy and upbeat during show week??? I generally tend to get kinda run down towards the end of the show and I want to make sure I'm my best for my upcoming show as it's going to be a good one!! Thank you so much in advance xxxxx
I just finished my school’s run of All My Sons and got a major confidence boost from it so I’m trying to audition as much as I could. A thing I used to do to keep my nerves down was not expect much out of an audition but now I want to show that I really want it.
Have you done a video about understudies, swings and how to deal with your understudies going on? I just found out I have strep throat and have to miss my performance of Parade tonight (I'm playing Mary). I genuinely like my understudy, but there are anxieties and emotions that go along with having your understudy go on that I'm not sure how to deal with.
greetings other angelical being 🖖🏽 ✨ I want to say that you really inspire me to be the best version of myself and I relate to you so much. i'm 19 and This year I was a freshman at a musical theater school but I felt like everyone there was hatful towards me because I was in a professional production of the drowsy chaperone. Also the Musical director who is known for saying the N word told me I couldn't start a breathing gym club to expand peoples lung capacities but he said to my face "Thats a hard No. .after calling me into his office saying it's against the rules to do a show while in school but he'd allowed it this one time."So I decided to drop out. Nobody from that school even came to see the show. which by the way was the most beautiful production of the drowsy chaperone Ive ever witnessed and David rosette 🏵is one of the best choreographer ever also between you and me I thought I like got blacklisted in atlanta because I got slapped hard backstage on the last show of a 11 shows right before I went on because I opened my mouth and stood up for myself about getting toughed Inappropriately at the bar the previous night . two months later here I an And two days ago I auditioned for avengers Live and its was so embarrassing I whore makeup and that was 1000000% the biggest mistake ever. They sent me home first and told me That they didn't want me to get hurt. I look at this message for an outsider perspective and Yes I am aware of how Adhd I am and am probably going to regret sending this message like how did it benefit anyone lol. thanks for letting me randomly rant.
Katherine Steele you are SO right about holding your sides! My teacher also says that holding your sides reminds the casting directors that your still doing a cold reading and not a final performance 😜
Hey Katherine do you have any tips on not being afraid of auditioning. My school does yearly musicals and I wanted to audition for the show of the year which the show actually went on for two days a month ago. It was "You're a good man Charlie Brown". Next year I want to audition but I'm nervous that I don't sing well nor act well. I actually already knew what audition song I would've done but I was just to afraid and noticed that the kids that auditioned for the show were amazing at acting and singing meanwhile I think I don't do well
I don't have stage fright I actually love being on stage but no matter how hard I try to be confident I always feel ashamed and that I'm not good enough. I think it may be due to having self conscious
Hey! Idk if you've done a video about it, but I would love a video about tips for high school actors/how to get auditions. That would be awesome! Thanks! ❤❤
Thank you so much!! This came out the day I had an audition, and I got a part!! which is pretty cool because I was one of the three youngest people that got a part.
i have an audition in approx. two weeks, and im kinda nervous because it will be my first audition, so i want to make sure i do my very best. so i have a few questions; how do you walk into the audition room? should u shake the casting directors' hands? should u introduce yourself? what am i supposed to do and say before i begin reading my lines? how can i prepare for the audition? and how should i warm up for the audition?
hi! i was wondering if you could do a video on improving your voice/singing ability or just being more confident with your voice? i do musical theatre but i dont think i have a very good singing voice? i've gotten a vocal coach i love and technically i am improving as far as pitch, expanding my range etc., but i just still dont like the way i sound? anyways i'd love your opinon/ tip and tricks on ways of improving or just being more confident? thank you ♡ (ps. your channel is super helpful and i watch every single one of your videos! keep it up!!) (pss. im sorry if none of this made sense)
+morgan rountree hey Morgan!! 💕 totally get you--talk to your teacher about working on your tone and vocal quality (but I'm sure it's lovely already 😊)
Thanks so much! (I'm only in 5th grade, so I've only done one musical and am doing my second now) When I've shown up to an audition I've had no idea what the heck I was doing! This will help so much! Now, and in my dream career (Broadway). Your videos are so helpful, especially at the rehearsals I'm doing now! (In Peter Pan. I play Captain Hook) Thanks again!
First, I'm so glad I found your channel. I have some auditions coming up (community theater) and I will be usuing a lot of your advice! Second, QUESTIONS!: I live in a small college town, how do I find professional auditions? Or what's the best method for a taped audition? I am not majoring in theater (i was taught it's a waste of thousands of dollars) so what did I miss? Can you hit on some of those major (lol punpunpun) points? Lastly, during auditions, do casting directors look at your talent or your skill set more? I want to get into professional acting and have no clue where to start. I am largely involved in my community theater and have done many iconic shows (the producers, chicago, Jekyll and hyde, Mary poppins this summer) will those help me? Thank you for starting this channel! You're amazing!!!!
in my school's drama club, we're rehearsing for a spoken play rather than a musical, and we had an audition for it, but what was different to most auditions was we didn't know what the play was while we were auditioning. as a second audition we found out the play and had to create a small physical theatre piece based around a rough outline of the story. i think us not knowing the play worked though - the casting director is one of the drama teachers at school at it helped him to see how we work as actors for future productions.
Can you please do an acting 101 kind of video? Or a dance audition 101 if one does not know how to dance? I love you and your videos so much thank you!!!
Hi hi! Loving your videos, every time I watch them I get a theatre high lol. Any helpful words of wisdom for a characters physical movements? I've found that they contribute so so so much to the character.
I love your videos! I found you a couple days ago, and I've been binge-watching haha. For the past couple days I've had auditions and callbacks for two shows. So far, I've been casted in one, though not the part I would've preferred. Your videos give me a little boost of confidence when I have low self-esteem(especially right now). Thank you
I auditioned for my first musical (Alice in Wonderland jr) and I wanted to be a tweedle . I wore Overalls on purpose then the music director noticed ( I got the part)
Hey I was thinking that it would be super helpful if you showed us one or more of your audition tapes, so we could kind of get a feel of how it might go, especially because it would be a familiar face. :))
Do you have a video on the college audition process? I think that would be really helpful to understand especially as a high school student trying to pursue theatre.
Can you do a video on Broadway Lingo like words that are commonly used behind the scenes and in scripts ex: beat or other things that might be on a script please btw I love your vids I’ve learned so much!!
Hey Kath! Recently I've been thinking more about getting into tv/film acting as well as theatre. Do you have a video on how to branch out into that and how it's different? Thanks so much! Love the vids!
I love your videos! I am hoping to audition for musical theatre colleges next year but I am a bit worried as I am confident in my singing and dancing but not so confident with my acting, any advice?
+Grace Quinn hey grace 🦄 i'd recommend working with an acting/monologue coach. Also, if you haven't checked it out yet, here's a playlist with all of the College Audition videos: ruclips.net/p/PLQT9aHBtN_y-XuDqpU1Y81EJQYleRHvmw Break a leg!! 💕
Hi Katherine! You mentioned in the video to always be off-book but then you said to hold your sides. What's the difference? I have an audition coming up next week and I have asked a couple of people whether to memorise (and not hold) your sides and one person said they would never ever hold the script during an audition and another said that they usually do. I don't know what I should do because I want to impress the casting team and not give a bad impression! What do you think? Thanks xx
I am curious about screen test and any tips you may know about them. They are seem as these big scary things and I wonder what casting directors are actually looking for. The same goes for any film advice you have. 🤗
Once I was auditioning for Boris and Goran (They are both idiots, German spies so I didn't really care) in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I had an excellent German accent, but so did a bunch of other people. The only thing that separated me from the others, was I used my shoe. Okay, so, in the introduction of the spies, the baron and baroness call them, so we had to get creative with how we made the phone. I used my shoe as the phone, and guess who got Goran, me, and can you also guess what they used in the show? MY SHOE PHONE!
I really needed this! I've been doing musical theatre since I was a little girl but only recently i decided to become very, very, very serious about it! That being said, do you have any tips about keeping stress out of auditions and show seasons? Thanks, love you!
+Laura Colcernian Hey Laura!! Welcome to the #TheatreThursdayFam 🎉💕🎭!! And totally, check these out: ruclips.net/video/yYkwSJsyo2s/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/yH3gJCLNJMo/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/_Lhob1CUGt0/видео.html 💕
+Grace Woulfe Hey love! 💕 I don't think people need convincing 😂 Start a career in musical theatre if you love it, can't live without it, and have enough consecutive work for it to be financially viable 😊
Hey Katherine! I have a question or more a problem. I would love to start acting (currently I am in High School). But I don't know how because I don't want to be an actress in my country. I started going to the drama club at my school but I get so sad when I realize that I can't live my dream. It's not that I want to be super famous or anything, I just like the language English and movies in English way more than I like my native language. So after school I want to live in America... But how? How should I get a greencard or anything to stay there? And if I can't live in America how about England? Is there also a big filmindustry? And one of the worst things: how can I improve my English that I sound like a native speaker and speak fluently?
+- Lany - hey lany ❤ I don't know anything about immigration, I'd recommend checking out government websites so you get reliable information. In terms of the film/television industry, America (especially Los Angeles, Chicago, new york, atlanta) is great. We also shoot a lot of stuff in Canada. In terms of learning English/ accent-- I'd recommend working with an English tutor and a dialect coach 😊
Katherine Steele Oh hey and thanks for answering. :) I will definitely check government websites out! I am currently searching for some free courses or videos on RUclips to improve my english, so thank you. :D
this is late but there is a pretty big film/tv industry in england! also theatre is also pretty popular here as well (we have our own version of broadway here lmao)
How do you get your backstage in the public eye after just making one Also how would you go about cover letters on applications, And do they message you back or do you just show up uninvited like it’s an open session?
Silly question if you are just trying to make it in the entertainment industry (Movies & TV shows) what's the best way to start because i never had any theater training or ever took acting lessons
Hey Katherine, I'm an actor living in Atlanta and I really want to get a demo reel out there for agents but I don't think the film's I've done really show what I can do or just show my best, do you have any suggestions on how-to go about shooting my own demo reel
Hi! I'd like to know more about how to deal or minimize personal body tension in order to perform. Acceptable versus not acceptable body tension to perform. Thanks!
my school has one of the best drama programs in the country. and i just got finished with guys and dolls playing Benny Southstreet. And now we are doing the king and i and i'm one of the main male dancers in the small house of uncle thomas. i play george. but i have a lot of free time on my hands because i don't have to be at a lot of rehearsals. should i look into local theaters and auditioning for musicals there or just stick to what i'm doing?
I know this is two years late but I am trying out for once upon a mattress I am an alto and I do not know how I should be. All the females are sopranos I can sing high but I am a better Alto I am so stressed can you help me?
Ok help! The thing I'm auditioning for doesn't have a character breakdown, and I can't find anything about it on the internet. It's a big theater, so I know that its not a scam or anything and also the description just says to sing a provided song and it doesn't list the song and I can't find the script online, so I just know I'm auditioning for a Halloween monster. Can anyone help?
My drama teacher once told me that in show business, to be early is on time, to be on time is late, and to be late is unacceptable. 😂
My drama teacher says the same thing about forensics tournaments but he said to be late is to be left since we all go in a van or bus together at like 6 am and it's great
person omg!! Same😂
At my theatre they put that at the top of every script😂
My teacher told us that once
person that is what my theater friend said, except she said that late was fired
my dance teacher says:
Early is on time
On time is late
And late is FIRED!!

My dance teacher at school always said “if you’re early you’re on time, if you’re on time you’re late, if you’re late you’re dead”
My teacher said “if you’re late you better be dead” 😂 she’d rather us be dead than late

+Kayla Fuller absolutely!!! 💕 a director I used to work with a lot said the exact same thing!!
+C H R I S S A R A V I A hey there!! 🌟 totally got you, here's how I deal with audition nerves: ruclips.net/video/yYkwSJsyo2s/видео.html break a leg!!
C H R I S S A R A V I A what God gifted skl lets u do musicals every year mine doesn't. whats your skl called
Hey! Idk if you've done a video about it, but I would love a video about tips for high school actors/how to get auditions. That would be awesome! Thanks! ❤❤
+SparkleyBroadway hey!! 🦄 totally gotcha-- here: ruclips.net/video/yH3gJCLNJMo/видео.html and here: ruclips.net/video/ieSyLdp84A4/видео.html 💕
I just sang along to musicals for a year (because I got into musicals) and it seemed to work I've improved a lot
+ARVIV that's wonderful!! Happy to hear it! #TheatreThursdayFam 🎉💕🎭
#TheaterThursdayFam!
Thank you this was super helpful!! 👑🙏😍
Hey! Just a quick question: How do you get over not getting the part you wanted or not even getting in the show at all? Thanks !
+Three Girls & A Pig hey there 🦄💫💖 totally gotcha, check this out: ruclips.net/video/wkc6YZPQXjE/видео.html
Katherine Steele oh thanks!!
in my school's drama club, we're rehearsing for a spoken play rather than a musical, and we had an audition for it, but what was different to most auditions was we didn't know what the play was while we were auditioning. as a second audition we found out the play and had to create a small physical theatre piece based around a rough outline of the story. i think us not knowing the play worked though - the casting director is one of the drama teachers at school at it helped him to see how we work as actors for future productions.
Thanks. I needed this. I going to try out for Flounder on Monday.
I would love more makeup vids! Maybe things like old age stage makeup?
You should do a video on the different genres or types of musicals!! I think that would be fun to watch😊
I really want to dye my hair pink but I'm worried the colour will affect my auditions. What should I do? :((
UWUx2 audition for k Howard
Can you please do an acting 101 kind of video? Or a dance audition 101 if one does not know how to dance? I love you and your videos so much thank you!!!
I would love to hear more about directing :) Thank You!
OMG this video is sooooo helpul thank YOU!!!!!!
Thank you
+Charlotte Archey Charlotte!! You are so sweet, thank you 🦄💖 and welcome to the #TheatreThursdayFam 🎉💕🎭
Hi Katherine, can you do a video on maybe how to learn different dialects/accents, whether that means getting a vocal coach or vocal exercise/tips?
+Cetty22 hey there! 💕 for accents, you work with a dialect coach
I auditioned for my first musical (Alice in Wonderland jr) and I wanted to be a tweedle . I wore Overalls on purpose then the music director noticed ( I got the part)
Omg I’m watching this cause I saw this about strangers things and there is auditions and I’m going, wish me luck
I have an audition on saturday, wish me luck! Also, loooove your videos
+Olivia Haloua break a leg, love!! 🦄💖🌟👏🏻
Katherine Steele update: I got it!!
Yep! I actually have about 40 videos covering the whole process. Here's the playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLQT9aHBtN_y-XuDqpU1Y81EJQYleRHvmw
+HeyTheatre hey!! 🦄💖 thank you!! And totally, I have some tips over here: ruclips.net/video/ieSyLdp84A4/видео.html 😊
Can you do a vid about getting an agent
I love your videos! I am hoping to audition for musical theatre colleges next year but I am a bit worried as I am confident in my singing and dancing but not so confident with my acting, any advice?
Grace Quinn acting is just like singing i bet u £11110000000000 you'll make it (sry if your from some where els im British)

+Grace Quinn hey grace 🦄 i'd recommend working with an acting/monologue coach. Also, if you haven't checked it out yet, here's a playlist with all of the College Audition videos: ruclips.net/p/PLQT9aHBtN_y-XuDqpU1Y81EJQYleRHvmw
Break a leg!! 💕
I have an audition for Youth Theatre Australia And later try TCA ( Talent Company Australia) So this really helped me 🤩
So helpful! Thanks Katherine :)
thanks for your help and support
Hi Katherine! You mentioned in the video to always be off-book but then you said to hold your sides. What's the difference? I have an audition coming up next week and I have asked a couple of people whether to memorise (and not hold) your sides and one person said they would never ever hold the script during an audition and another said that they usually do. I don't know what I should do because I want to impress the casting team and not give a bad impression! What do you think? Thanks xx
I have an audition for Matilda tomorrow, shooting for Miss honey :)
Wish me luck!! 💛
You've got me obsessed with Carrie the musical. I love your videos so much 💖💖💖
+Chelsi Hopkins YES!!! 🔪🔪🔪 'and thank you!! ❤
I really enjoyed watching this video, it was very insightful and informative..
I definitely want to learn more about Musical Theatre, because if I become an actress, I want to be in Musical Theatre.
.
Ha!!!! U pressed read more now u must have a beautiful day
This video was so helpful! Thank you so much!💕🎭 #theatrethursdayfam
I am curious about screen test and any tips you may know about them. They are seem as these big scary things and I wonder what casting directors are actually looking for. The same goes for any film advice you have. 🤗
+Maddy Altenburg ooh that's an EXCELLENT topic. I'll add it to the list!! 💕🌟☺️🙌🏻
Thanks, I have got an audition tomorrow, I am really nervous
could you do a video for children in theatre?
Once I was auditioning for Boris and Goran (They are both idiots, German spies so I didn't really care) in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I had an excellent German accent, but so did a bunch of other people. The only thing that separated me from the others, was I used my shoe. Okay, so, in the introduction of the spies, the baron and baroness call them, so we had to get creative with how we made the phone. I used my shoe as the phone, and guess who got Goran, me, and can you also guess what they used in the show? MY SHOE PHONE!
your videos always come out at the perfect time! thank you so much! also, sorry about the nightmare, haha!💖
Madison yay!! Happy to hear it!! (And thank you 💕😂)
I really needed this!
I’d like to know some tips for dance auditions. Just had one in a long time and i want to know how to pick up on choreography better
I have a video on that 😊
can you do a video on why to choose musical theatre as a career?
I have a video suggestion! How to deal with drama (gossip, conflict, etc) backstage.
How do you get your backstage in the public eye after just making one
Also how would you go about cover letters on applications,
And do they message you back or do you just show up uninvited like it’s an open session?
How can I improve my belt? Love your channel by the way, really helpful and you're hilarious lol
Great! Try out these tips and give out an amazing performance.
OMG I love your little choker!! So cute!
Hi! I'd like to know more about how to deal or minimize personal body tension in order to perform. Acceptable versus not acceptable body tension to perform. Thanks!
Could you do a video on projection or how to dress for an audition? Thank you! ❤️
my school has one of the best drama programs in the country. and i just got finished with guys and dolls playing Benny Southstreet. And now we are doing the king and i and i'm one of the main male dancers in the small house of uncle thomas. i play george. but i have a lot of free time on my hands because i don't have to be at a lot of rehearsals. should i look into local theaters and auditioning for musicals there or just stick to what i'm doing?
I was wandering if you could a vid on who are your favorite Broadway actresses/actors :)
^do
I know this is two years late but I am trying out for once upon a mattress I am an alto and I do not know how I should be. All the females are sopranos I can sing high but I am a better Alto I am so stressed can you help me?
What's the best way to go from only singing acapella to using a pianist or background music? I have an audition soon and have never sung with music...
Woah!🤗it helped me... tysm😄
