"The Killing of a Chinese Bookie" is my favorite film of all time. It's so incredibly macabre in a really fascinating way. I've never seen a movie that was so dense with subtext upon subtext and the actual story behind the making of it and the sort of meta text about Cassavetes himself is so fascinating. Love that movie to death and highly recommend "Husbands" and "Love Streams" if you enjoy the biopic. "Mishima: A Life In Four Chapters" is also one of my favorite movies ever (top 10) and Paul Schrader's (the incel king) magnum opus. I don't agree with everything the movie says, but I actually think it makes it better. Conner got some bangers this go around, so much kino.
I also picked up "Miracle in Milan" as a blind buy during this sale and loved it. I think you'll really like it, too. And by the way, you should check out Harold Lloyd's "The Freshman," too, which is also available on Criterion.
@@FilmsByColor the care put in Criterion releases just about can't be beat. Much appreciated, I'd love to join y'all for a video of some kind. (I'm well, hope the same of you & all)
The security wires are called Spider wraps and I also hate them being on physical media. If I find something I want and one of those are on it I'll pass on the item. I've been trying to get more Criterions, but besides the ones I know I will like it's hard to decide what would be interesting to get/watch. Glad y'all are describing the films to give us an idea about films we might otherwise pass over. A+ video and great hauls 👍
Great video as usual, really enjoy these! If you like Tyrone Power I would recommend Blood and Sand, I really like that one. It’s about a bullfighter played by TP. Keep up the great work! 👍
You mentioned a uniquely animated movie in a previous Criterion haul video. I wanted to recommend another one in case you have never heard of it. It's called the The Wolf House from 2018. It's on Shudder and Tubi. Highly recommended!
Conner, if you end up doing the Zatoichi marathon let me know because I am really down to do the same. It's been too long since I've done something absurd like that and I've been meaning to buy that set for some time anyway. Also, when/if you get For All Mankind, I highly recommend watching the uncropped 1.33:1 version instead of the wider 1.85:1 theatrical version. Despite it making the image smaller on your tv you're going to appreciate what the extra visual information on the top and bottom of the frame adds, and it makes the (mind-blowing) sequence where the rocket blasts off all the more impressive. Also, DJ, Kuroneko is wonderful and I'm sure you'd love it. Less so a "fantasy" film perse and more of a folktale or ghost story. There's plenty of stories about vengeful spirits and demons in Japanese film that really make use of the folktale aspect. If you like this, check out Kwaidan by Masaki Kobayashi and Dreams by Akira Kurosawa, both films featuring Yuki-onna, or the snow woman. Another folkloric spirit that shares some similarities with the ones in Kuroneko. Also, "Kuro Neko" is pronounced Koo-Rō Neh-Kō. It's actually too words, translating as Black Cat.
Fan of your channel started collecting criterion a year and a half ago get alot of recommendations from your videos however I live I. Toronto Canada so we dont get the big Barnes and noble sales we get much smaller sales
As Conner said, you may not be able to plan too much for a plan, so after Day 4: DJ's Domain are we going to see a 500 subscription celebration because it's turbo time for Showtime. If it wasn't clear already with you putting Conner's pick ups before yours, you're a modest guy and you know the saying about nice guys finishing last? Also, first is the best, second is the same, third is the one with the....there can't be two bests, but clearly that "first is the worst, second is the best... " rhyme doesn't apply this time cuz Conner is prime! And the point is that a lot of those sayings are whack so the whole nice guys finished last saying can also take a hike because as gracious as a guest as Conner is, we got to see the most Graceful guest in your 10 Top Disney Ranking video so nice guys have a lot of hope from your videos...You probably didn't expect to be such an inspiration when making this video series because, again, modest guy. Glad Day 3 was redeemed for Conner. Thanks again!

Look at Conner's moves! I think he just created what I would call the Happy Criterion Dance! :)
Hahaha I was elated!

What an exceptional round of pick-ups. Love this sale.
Jeffery! What’s up, man? I didn’t know you were into Criterion. You’re always welcome to join us for a video anytime.

For All Mankind looks great in 4K it covers all the Apollo moon missions superb soundtrack from Brian Eno as well.
Oh, interesting! I didn’t know it was all of the missions, and a Brian Eno score? Two more points to pique my interest

Cool! Thanks for the recommendation. I always down for some cool animated stuff
Have you seen Tod Browning’s Freaks? If you like circus movies you’ll love it.
Oh awesome. Thanks for the recommendation. Just added it to my watchlist 👍

Well Tyler, you may have just secured my purchase of the Zatoichi box set in November! 😂
@@ConnerNielsen6 Let me know if you do! If you do, I will.
Kuroneko is great, the same as Onibaba, I believe, from the same director.
Oh cool. I didn’t know Onibaba was the same director. I’m interested in that one too.

I had to go online for a few things too. Which titles did you end up getting?
