Annealing is a necessary process in working metal, the trick is to learn how to properly anneal the metal you're working with. I'm sure that Melissa would agree that it would have made this project much easier, but on the other hand it did show the power of the Pepe tool. Good video. Thanks.
Melissa, I knew how long it took you get it up upload and how much work you always put into your videos. I've personally seen you do a tool time Tuesday, and I appreciate how you go in detail about how to and why you would use this tool. I would think that for anyone who does metalsmithing or has any common sense of appreciation would appreciate your video. I have done a few bend bracelets, fork hooks ect, & I know personally how hard it is even with experience. Great tool. I'm saving my $.
Personally Dave, I have been teaching myself for last few years. I feel that Melissa's videos are of great use for me. If you already know the process then why did you feel the need to comment? It's more about the experience of learning to make it and using this tool, than the belittling people because you think you know more. I'm very sorry to hear that you have resentment issues. I sincerely, look forward to watching your weekly videos, that seem to know how to critique every fine detail.
Thank you so much for a great demo - and what a terrific piece of equipment! I especially appreciated all the extra little tips that had nothing specifically to do with the Pepe tool but just with best bench practices. Just as an aside, I have to disagree with Mr. Wilson below - I learned how to use a jeweler's saw from Thomas Mann, who eschews lubricants. The metal bits wind up caught in the lubricant, which prevents them from falling cleanly out of the kerf and causing the blade to bind.
Love your videos, I’m just learning and have wanted to take classes for a long time but have not had the opportunity. My great-grandfather was a jeweler and watchmaker and I have always been intrigued by his craft. Thank you so much for your great videos!

Melissa, thank you for all of your excellent videos. I really enjoyed this one. It was very informative. You explain everything so well. You make me feel at ease that I can do it too. Thanks for demoing the tool. Now I want to go out and find some SS spoons and forks. Keep up the great work.
Not all metals can/should be annealed. I have made many fork bracelets and spoon rings and use metal dated prior to 1913. While those years use a thicker plating, they also tend to use a thicker metal alloy under it. I ruined many a piece trying to anneal it before hand. The silver would burn off before the alloy would soften enough to make any kind of difference. I do all my pieces with brute force and coaxing around a mandrel. This tool would surely make my life easier!
Also, of the fork bracelets I've made, most of them are plated so you wouldn't want to suggest people randomly anneal toxic spoons. Which is why this tool comes in handy.
Also if you were listening Dave, she mentions what the tool is in first :23 seconds. She gets right to the point of how to make a ring. Do try to keep up.
I thought it was a good video. No, it didn't go into minute detail, Dave, but most people who are buying expensive ring bending tools already know the basics (like to lube the blade). I could tell that there was only a tiny amount of metal left, which is why the spoon gave and bound up the saw blade.
Also, now I really want a ring bender! It looks like it would be much easier on the body than just a ring mandrel and rawhide mallet.

What a slick little tip to use the Ring Bender as a vice and holding the ring, you can hit it with your rawhide hammer. Smart!
