Spark San Juanico Aesthetic Light and Sound Show Light Up Ceremony 10/19/2022

San Juanico Bridge, the longest bridge along the Pan-American Highway connecting Samar and Leyte with a distance of 2.16 kilometers, dazzled in an aesthetic light and sound display this evening as the much-awaited official switch-on of the San Juanico Bridge Aesthetic Light and Sound Show Project led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos unfolded in Sta. Rita, Samar Province on October 19, 2022.
“I could not pass up the chance to be here with you all today, as this bridge holds a special place in my heart, as it was one of the flagship projects completed during the administration of my late father. In fact, it was my father who spearheaded the inauguration of the bridge, so you can all imagine how genuinely delighted I am to be present to witness its lighting as your President. Beyond physically connecting the Provinces of Samar and Leyte, the San Juanico Bridge has become a well-known landmark and a symbol of unity for the people of the two islands which it serves,” the President said in his keynote speech.
The first of its kind in the Philippines, the light show and colors in San Juanico Bridge can be customized depending on the occasion.
“I thus stand here, eager to see this structure come to life once more, as we witness its lighting with pride and celebration, thanks to the tireless efforts of today’s organizers,” he added.
He lauded the local governments of Samar and Leyte, Department of Tourism (DOT), Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) and non-government entities for their joint efforts in completing the project, noting that this kind of partnership is fundamental in his Administration’s pursuit of programs and projects that would boost tourism and economic development in the two provinces.
“With the recent completion of the San Juanico Aesthetic Lighting Project, I look forward to seeing the bridge turn into a true sight to behold, not just during the day, but now even in the dark at night. I look forward to the economic opportunities that will be stimulated by this, as well as other Spark Samar initiatives, in the near future. I eagerly anticipate the assistance it will bring for the complete recovery of the tourism industry in the Eastern Visayas and nearby areas,” President Marcos emphasized.
The aesthetic lighting project was proposed to the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) in 2015 by Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan and the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 8 (Eastern Visayas). TIEZA allocated PhP80 million for the project that was completed by Amigo Entertainment Technologies, Inc. after more than three years of delay due to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. An additional PhP90 million for the boardwalk was also funded by TIEZA.
“Let the lights of this bridge also signal our resolve to make our islands even more connected, by filling its gaps with displays of ingenuity, creativity, and openness, so that progress may move freely among us,” President Marcos stated.
