My mum was really abusive growing up so my nan who was called Peggy raised me and she was amazing wonderful lady, I have 3 girls and had 3 guinea pigs, bonnie, George and fudge. The day I let my mother go I went to pet's at home and over in the corner was an injured guinea pig who they were trying to find her a home, they explained that another baby guinea pig attacked her and has 2 toes missing and a chip out her ear. They were a bit shifty which was weird. She was his in her jay and couldn't even reach her water bottle and above all things she was called Peggy I couldn't believe it, i wanted her before I was her and thought perfect I can put her in with bonnie as a companion and be grid buddies with my boys, I said I want to rescue her and then they pulled out this absolutely stunning black white and tan abbissinian rock star super gorgeous peggy. She could easily have a saskia but cut. She is so loving towards all her cavy friends my daughters and me. So so grateful to this very day for rescuing her, little darling. I would recommend adopting and rescuing a guinea pig instead any day, they have little individual souls and are loving and so much fun. Love from the uk guys

Oh, Scotty, you were my lifesaver (or my piggy’s lifesaver) when I found my sweet little Parker in the park. I had never even thought about owning a Guinea pig, but that universal experience was dropped in my lap and I’ve never looked back. I was clueless about how to care for them, but I was fortunate enough to stumble onto your website almost immediately. What a blessing. Thank you for helping these dear little souls.

It’s so sad that this is happening. I can’t believe how many people can just dump these sweet creatures. In case I ever find any, I’ve got a (roughly) 8 square foot playpen and a ton of extra C&C grids, cage liners, etc. I’m prepared but so far the universe hasn’t sent me any. I think it’s cause I’m in a small town. Thank you to all the people who found some and took these babies in ❤

8 years ago my husband trapped a guinea pig at a park that had been abandoned by the road. Brought her home, she was expecting and we kept her daughter to keep as a friend for her. She passed away and a couple weeks ago her 8 year old daughter passed. It was so devastating for me, I'm so glad I was able to have them in my life.
Last week I adopted a guinea pig at the shelter who also was found as a stray for my remaining piggie. She is so scared of people, I'm trying to get her tame but will not give up on her.

That's how I got my third Piggie. Someone found them on the opposite side of the island that I live on. Our animal control is not equipped for piggies, they were worried that if they had her for too long she would need to be put down. So I told them if they can get her to me that I would take her. She was in my care the next day.
As for being too hot, I use the frozen water bottles. I use a bunch of them and then a fan on top of that. It cools the area and then moves that cool air around too. My piggies love it.

I rescued two from some bushes 3 months ago. One of them unfortunately didn’t make it. It was my first time ever with Guinea Pigs. I took it to a veterinarian but they couldn’t save it. The other was quite slim which is a female I named her Brownie. She is now a good weight and eats like a horse. Have her on a very good balanced diet. Hay, pellets and veggies. I may adopt another female in the future and bond one with her.

Other than dogs and cats, I've only ever heard of someone finding a single fancy rat dumped in our area (we adopted him). This is a bigger problem in certain places in the world than others it would seem. Guinea pigs aren't that commonly owned near me as a whole. Kansas City btw.

Great video! I know there's not a universal solution but if pet stores that don't have any knowledge on how to take care guinea pigs shouldn't be be allowed to sell them. There should be actually training involved and selling of the right products only for them to even be allowed to consider it. These sweet animals take a good amount of care and so many people have no idea what they are getting into when they get one. That was us and until we found your videos! Our first guinea pig we took from someone who had moved and given him to someone else who's dog couldn't handle him being in their house. It was almost seemingly accidental that we ended up with him. We fell in love with our Hammy. After he died we knew we were meant to always have piggies. Now we have 5 and 2 grand pigs live with our daughter!

Up here its a rabbit dumping problem. People think pet bunnies can survive in the wild because we have wild rabbits around. At least once a month the local small pet rescue has to put out a PSA about this. Around the reservations and in rural communities its cats and dogs :(

Depending where the animals are found and in what condition the finder might be required legally to notify certain institutions: police, a vet, "lost and found". This is terrible and they also do this to rabbits. These animals are not “starter” pets. They are a commitment. For guineas it’s about 4-6 years and rabbits are 8-10 years on average. No animal should be dumped. Humans are terrible and put innocent animals in terrible situations and conditions. If you aren’t ready, willing, and able to care for any animal you should not have one. Not sure if a guinea or rabbit is the right pet for your family try fostering or work with a local rescue so you can get a feel for if you have the capacity. It’s better to learn by fostering than to (go buy- which adopt don’t shop) fully adopt a pet that you realize you cannot care for. I prefer animals to people as it is.
