If you decide to watch the anime, skip all the filler episodes. You’ll get 2 benefits. 1. Since the anime has the highest filler/canon ratio that is nearly 500 episodes are just fillers, you can cut down and watch only canon episodes. 2. You can focus more on main storyline and not be distracted by fillers, this is especially the case in black organisation arcs

Despite the fact it's pretty streched and the "plot" moves really slow (I'm pretty sure the case mysteries are the main plot and the org is the side plot so I don't mind), I love that this manga is still running. Some of my favorite characters where introduced pretty late and i'm glad I got to know them.

Detective Conan was one of those series that I tried reading back in high school and I watched a decent amount of episodes from the anime as well, but it was one of those series I dropped due to other manga/anime taking my interest or life just keeping me occupied. i think part of the fun about detective conan was it's early artstyle, where conan actually looked like an innocent and cute child in a murder mystery series; it's a shame that the artstyle has evolved so much that none of the child characters look like children anymore - i generally just feel like the artstyle regressed in general (body proportions, head shape, facial features/placement)... and this includes the anime adaptation
and as someone who reads/watches manga or anime largely based off artstyle, it's a little sad to see it grow into an unpleasing artstyle, for me personally 🥲 it's still one of my favs though.

    • @Dawnred956
      @Dawnred956  7 месяцев назад +3

I totally get where you're coming from. It's inevitable for an artist to evolve and adapt their art style, especially if they work on a series for 30 years. I still value Aoyama's old art style though. It's hard to imagine that era of the manga in Aoyama's modern style, which can be said for later points in the manga. I can't exactly picture a chapter like 500 working as well as it did if it was drawn in his old art style from the early 90's. Aoyama DOES miss every now and then in the art department, but I find his misses WAY more tolerable than the anime, minus some of art in the movies.

10:34 I don't know if that is correct considering that Wii game did not release for another 2 years in PAL format. Also, Funimation was still releasing Case Closed at the time, both in season format and then with the movies up to Movie 6, The Phantom of Baker Street, which Haibara is in. Though the Viz volume would have released before that movie released on US shores. Another minor correction, it premiered on [adult swim] on May 24th, not May 7th.
The vid is generally enjoyable, but I just flat out disagree with your insistence that Conan is an adult series (or at the very least, not for kids) just because of the violence. I think it is pretty much a kid's series (a bit older than say a 'kodomo manga' like Doraemon, but still for like preteens at least), it's just that western TV standards are unbelievably strict and ridiculous (looking back on those 90s Saturday morning cartoon edits and you couldn't even show a punch without some kind of edit). It broadcasts at 6pm in Japan in a timeslot for families to watch, and much like a lot of shonen manga, the violence is toned down in the anime. It could not succeed here simply because the content would be considered too graphic for children's entertainment, yet "too kiddy" for a lot of adults to enjoy, with or without the logo looking as it does. Heck, with regards to the [adult swim] ratings it received, the teen ratings would be good but the target demographic (adults) it didn't do well in, and the timeslot would have been too late for younger audiences to watch (it premiered at 12:30am on weekdays, then later it got moved to 1am). I mean stuff like One Piece, Naruto, Dragonball, also have some pretty intense violence, and kids love those series. Every time I walk home from work, I am seeing kids walking around with Kimetsu no Yaiba or Hunter x Hunter T-shirts, which contain stuff far more graphic than anything in Conan (heck for some reason Mugen Train received an R rating here, in spite of it receiving McDonald's Happy Meal Toys in Japan).
What it comes down to is whether or not there's stuff kids can connect with, and I think there's plenty (between the stuff with the Detective Boys, the action and suspense at points, the romantic elements), alongside aspects of the mysteries that are more complex for adults to enjoy.
That being said, I agree with Viz keeping the English names as being stupid. They did the same thing with One Piece and "Zolo" which they originally had as the correct "Zoro" but changed it when the 4Kids dub released. I think them wanting to keep consistent with the anime release has been a risk that did not pay off as their translations ended up far outliving the original market that birthed those changes.

Because of high popularity in Asian countries, the series is analyzed very well, and it is SO MUCH MORE than it seems! The series itself is a long lasting mystery to be solved, and the author has put a lot of thoughts into designing every character. It is in my opinion a masterpiece! Unfortunately they ruined the anime with the dub ! I like the voice actors but the writing wasn’t great for the dub. However I love the anime and wish we could purchase the subbed dvd in the us

Me giggling as you purposefully sidestep explaining the series' MOST IMPORTANT PLOT POINT for almost the entire video
also the English names do bother me after getting used to the Japanese names, but the English dub is actually so funny that I think it's worth it to watch it anyway. Or at least look up a dub jokes compilation video

Wait, who hasn’t read this? Nah.
I have been trying to keep up. With the anime at least. The anime went to shit. There is no more creative juice left.

I will try the manga. But I dunno, the art is great. But the story is getting repetitive.

Detective Conan was good for first 500 episodes, but later then on, people's motives are too obvious and stupid, bbut worth watching because of black organization and related characters that are involved with

The motives got obvious and stupid because the author ran out of them. Gosho said himself that Motives were the hardest thing for him, since you can only do the "he cheated on me" one so many times.

@@xNico1412 yeah. He said that he already has ending set up and it's gonna be happy ending, but doesn't know when it's gonna happen.
On top of that he is going on hiatus detective conan and suddenly decided to focus on the Kaito stuffs. It's a shame.

I mean to be fair. Most murders in real life happen because of money or love. There aren't really many other motives you can have. Maybe revenge. But that is usually also because of love or money.

@@marbleb33s i understand that, but the way of killing is way different . First few were very extreme and graphic which it should be in my opinion.

I love your approach to trying to introduce Detective Conan to an unfamiliar audience! I would think most manga or anime fans would have at least heard of the series by now, but may not have any idea what it's really about if they didn't give it a try. I've been in love with the series ever since I got into it not long after it debuted in America! Since the first versions of this series I was ever introduced to were the Funimation dub and the Viz manga's translation matching the name changes that Funimation used, it doesn't bother me as much as some newbies who get into it nowadays. Younger anime fans are purists who will never know what anime/manga fans who fell in love with the art form several decades ago had to go through to enjoy anime. Putting up with Americanized names was nothing when you literally had to wait years in between an anime series even being made available to American audiences.
