This is a great idea! Sustainable and has excellent results! However, for anyone who wants to try this and lives in a place with a lot of snow/sleet/rain, just make sure that the outer fabric ISN'T cotton. (Source: Me, a Canadian)
And it should be longer 🙈 unless you like to have your kidneys stone cold.
See withwendy’s vid on making a jacket from a sleeping bag !!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
@@Wredniara yeah I was definitely thinking that her lower back is going to be so cold with the cropped look 😅 it is cute tho so if you live somewhere with only moderate weather it's fine I guess
Agreed! Great thought! Great execution! ...sadly not really practical 😢
Especially around the coast where it RAINS! I live in metro Vancouver, so waterproof is a MUST!
Next time, trace the outline, see a running stitch on it, then cut and join the individual pieces
Amazing tip!
What do you mean? I’m a beginner sewer and don’t understand 😅
@@user00616 i think they mean instead of cutting around the pattern pieces, trace the pattern pieces onto the blanket and then sew along the pattern lines. This way you can sew the pattern pieces closed before cutting the blanket open and letting all of the feathers out !! :-)
While this some what makes sense its awfully hard to sew lines on a full sized blanket depending on your sewing machine. You would still need to draw the outlines, cut those outlines out so theyre seperate, smaller, and easier to feed into the machine, then sew the outlines on those smaller chunks of blanket. Most people dont have a sewing machine big enough to allow reaching the middle of an entire blanket to even sew the outlines, not to mention trying to sew while maneuvering all of that material and weight. Much easier to cut out and close the edges as shown, takes probably the same amount of time it would to sew the outline to the blanket first anyway. Sometimes just because you CAN reverse the order of things, doesn't mean you should.
It turned out really cool! Great job on the finishings!
I know I'm quite off topic but do anyone know a good website to watch newly released tv shows online ?
I forgot you live in Cali i was like that will NOT keep you warm haha. Love from midwestern 30 degree weather 🥶
My thoughts as a New Englander as well.. Its a nice 20°F here at the moment.
yeah, here in Ottawa (Canada) it was 0°F the other day. The usual for this time of year is 20°F.
I thought the same @Cora Nicole! This is a summer jacket to me! Weather only goes down to 20F but it's very humid and windy where I'm from so I would prefer the Canadian 0F
I literally want to do every single one of your projects because you make it look SO EASY but the projects looks like they are worth $$$$$
I love the color, a Carolina blue! It’s a Tar Heel jacket 😄💕
I swear you read my mind. There have been so many times I was going to start a new sewing project and you post your tutorial on the same piece of clothing a day later. Anyways this came out SO well!
Last year I made a huge coat out of a sleeping bag like with wendy and it is so much easier to handle when it's filled with Cotton Fleece/ batting than feathers. Also I only sewed the outside layer right sides together and did the entire inside/lining by hand with a mattress stitch so no seams were visible. It kinda still looks like Im wearing a sleeping bag though lol but sooo warm!
I must make myself one
It looks so cute!!! An amazing transformation with recycled fabrics.
This would look cool with a contrasting color bias tape like black and make it a feature. Have the taped seams on the outside. My new hack is use socks as knitted cuffs on jackets. There are so many cool socks being made now and if you just cut off the foot section, the tube section (folded over) can become jacket cuffs.
Wow, great idea!
That's a great idea! Why did that never occur to me?
@@raraavis7782 You can use socks with logos like Nike and then have the logo on your jacket cuffs.
For future feather related projects, could you sew along your pattern pieces, and then 1/4-1/2” away, and cut between the two lines?
I'm shocked at how stylish it looks!! The trim added a lot to it :)
I'm so proud of your growth April, it's been an honor to watch you after all these years!!! 👏🏽💜
The jacket turned out absolutely beautiful! I love this April! You inspired me into sewing and made my own channel crafty nifty, a sewing channel! I am only 12, and thank you so much for inspiring me April!
It’s so tidy and finished!
This is the cutest shape and color!
reminds me of WithWendy's sleeping bag into jacket video
Do you have the link for that one please?

its ok beautiful. its summer here in Australia but I am attempting this now for sure! and the colour is just wow. you could literally wear that colour with so many other outfits for sure. its a neutral tone and just so pastelly wonderful. thanks for sharing this tutorial. also I love how you added elastic instead of ribbed jersey to get the jacket to gather unlike most bomber jackets. very good idea indeed.

That is super cute. I bet the hardest part was cleaning up all those feathers.
The jacket is adorable--love the color and style! Great work!!!
I'm always amazed at your skill and vision. Wow! I'm inspired. Thank you.
Wow fantastic!
This looks so cozy. In terms of the feathers, I think I would have pinned the pattern pieces down, cut around them in big chunks, then maybe basted them shut to contain the feathers, then gone ahead and cut out the pattern pieces. A lot more work perhaps, but possibly less messy. 🪶
Great job bella! Grazie for the tutorial 👍🏼
You never seize to amaze 😍
That looks so comfy cozy ☕❄️🕯️☺️
