What a legend. I was so saddened to hear Erwin Beekveld passed away in 2022. I didn’t know his name until recently, but like many I’ve known this song for years. I wish all the love to Erwin Beekveld’s family and friends. Erwin has sailed into the west, and a part of him lives on here as one of the greatest remixes in history.
He was an amazing friend. At the end of the funeral they moved him out to the resting place while playing Into the West.
I was looking for the artist to say YOU ARE A GENIUS this is still my all-time favorite video on youtube

I had no idea Erwin had died, but what a legacy - this is one of those things I will always remember from the best days of the internet. I think I first saw it on Albino Black Sheep (anyone else remember that site?) and of course now here. Just a shame that the actual creator's video has so many fewer views than other people's uploads of it.

But *this* and the "Very Secret Diary of Aragorn, Son of Arathorn" somehow embody the spirit of fandom most to me: the joy of taking the original and make something new, the inside jokes, the spoofing of beloved characters and scenes, the instant recall just by an otherwise mundane phrase even a decade plus later.
