Legally the police officer is obligated by the law of the state to provide the CAD number if asked for it. If he refuses, he can be held liable for not providing a service to the people as his job dictates to protect AND serve. Not to mention he is legally obligated to call a supervisor when requested.

We live in a small rural far northern town. The cops are friendly and helpful. A neighbors chain link fence was blown down during high winds. The neighbors were gone. I went to push the fence up and toe off the sections. I was alone and was having a problem. Cop drove by and offered to help and did. He introduced himself by 1st name. IMHO it is small town cops who actually help. This cop was,is, a jerk

That number literally does nothing outside of differentiating one call for service from another and gives you no info until you make a foia/open records request with the police department, or, if you want to file a complaint and identify what call its regarding so the officers supervisors can see what officers responded to said call.

We live in a small rural far northern town. The cops are friendly and helpful. A neighbors chain link fence was blown down during high winds. The neighbors were gone. I went to push the fence up and toe off the sections. I was alone and was having a problem. Cop drove by and offered to help and did. He introduced himself by 1st name. Is he supposed to overpower the officer and strong arm him out of his squad to look at his computer to write it down? That number literally does nothing outside of differentiating one call for service from another and gives you no info until you make a foia/open records request with the police department, or, if you want to file a complaint and identify what call its regarding so the officers supervisors can see what officers responded to said call.
