Indeed, you live in a beautiful country. I like its landscapes with a lot of forests and lakes. Finland is very different of France of course. Keep safe !
12h ticket for the ferries costs 5 €. For 12h period you can run the ferry as many times as you want. All HSL tickets are also valid on the ferries, too. For more info: www.hsl.fi/en/tickets-and-fares/suomenlinna-ticket
Finland is one of my top five favorite countries and you have been showing me places that I never saw. The Way Away is the first travel vlog I subscribed to a long time ago and I have never regretted subscribing to The WayAway. Even though I traveled to most countries in what was then western Europe, you consistently show me things that I had missed seeing. Thank you yet again for the time and work you always put into giving high quality, educational and fun videos. Just had to laugh at Josh's expression when Ashley was going on about the puppy.
I was going back through some of your older videos and just found this one on Suomenlinna. Now I want to go to Finland! It looks beautiful! Josh's video skills are amazing. And, Ashley, your excitement is so cute!
I spent a whole day in July in sunny skies on the island. It truly is one paradise on earth. Cannot wait to return and spend more time soaking in Helsinki
I have to admit, that I love living on Suomenlinna. You people have no idea how magical this place is. You have just scratch the surface. Welcome again :-)
The sloping rock coastline you mentioned is due to receding ice at the end of the ice age, literally sculpting and smoothing the rock. Also, Suomenlinna, and most of Finland's lowlands and present-day islands, were long ago beneath water. Wherever you walked once used to be the sea floor. The ice sheet over Finland was so massive, in fact, that it had weighed down the earth's crust. When the ice melted, the crust began to rebound. This is very slow, however, usually at a median rate of a few centimeters per century. Even so, Pori, a city in west Finland, was established by the coast several hundred years ago. Today, it's on a small river delta several kilometers from the sea. Every year, Finland gains circa 7 square kilometers of new land. Oh, before I forget, near Pori is Yyteri, one of Finland's finest beaches.
A different kind of island hopping ;) Looks beautiful there! Finland has never been on the top of my list but I would definitely swing by for an Airbnb on an island like that!
Visited there during Christmas. It was entirely different experience with snow everywhere. They hosted a small treasure hunt durint the time and it was fun and helped us observe some minor details which otherwise would've gone missing. Loved it.
As a kid I used to live near Kaivopuisto and we played on those shores all the time and saw the Suomenlinna almost every day. Kiitos paljon for nice video.
I've watched every video on your channel. This one ranks #1 for enthusiasm and grand narrative. Keep up the great work. It is a joy to watch you two enjoying life.
Just stumbled on your channel and its awesome! We used to live in Helsinki and seeing this video from Suomenlinna made me miss this place so much! If you come back at winter time be sure to come north enough! Winter in Helsinki isn't a proper winter, you got to come to Lapland to experience the real winter!:)
I'm glad that you went to Stockmann. It's the best department store in the Nordics. It's also really expensive but the quality and service is amazing. I have been visiting Stockmann for the past 25 years. You should go to Stockmann when "the Crazy Days" are ongoing.
Josh is correct, an archipelago is a group of islands. Ashley's enthusiasm is adorable, I'm English but it's sometimes hard for me to understand when she's speaking fast :-)
I'm glad you enjoyed Helsinki! I actually proposed to my girlfriend (now wife) in Suomenlinna a year ago, right around the spot you were at 4:25 - 4:40 in this video. It really is a beautiful island.
Suomenlinna is really one of my favorite places. Me and my wife are having our wedding there next fall 😇 I love your videos! Especially when you give little facts to viewers! Its amazing!
Where did the two glamorous Nordic people come from...where are Josh and Ashley??? Ohhhh--they're embracing the luxury adventure lifestyle!! And yes--fall is here in northern VA--and you know--winter is coming!!
I’m a finn and just subscribed your channel. You have such nice style and I love your joy and happiness that comes through. And great footage and editing by the way! I also have some travel videos on my channel
You're so positive and awesome!! But you really look like locals as far as attitude goes, as a Finn I can say we have a lot of energetic and stylish people like you in our lovely Finland! Hope to see you visit Finland again someday
I went to Suomenlinna for the first time this summer! :D I also tried filming the experience (for my own memories, not so much for youtube). You filmed this very nicely! Those drone shots... SO beautiful! to be honest, I'm kind of jealous, since I didn't have a drone...
Sorry guys. Lived in Finland for one year pretty snow during the winter. But Helsinki is one of the most boring cities that I have ever been. Its good for two days tops. I literally stood on the main street looked down the block saw Stockmanns and almost fell asleep standing up
Suomenlinna is also an open prison, with about 90 prisoners. So some of those people you meet on the islands can be prisoners, who mostly work with restoring the fortress. PS. Love the drone trip at 6:15
Suomenlinna is very cool :). It makes me very envious that people actually live there ... tho' dealing with the tourist tide must be a bit irksome :D. It was oddly great to see you in places I have actually walked :thumbs up:. I had the advantage of being with my friend, Tuukka, so he could explain all the historical details and so forth ... but I was there in winter so it was a bit less lovely weather wise :chuckles:.
Fun things planned for tommorrow ? As if this one wasn't fantastic already. Once again you toned down the music at the right times. Visual utopia, and serenity at its best. Yeah, those parasailors, just hanging out. So cool.
+scott a haha, we do try to have something interesting most videos! I'm glad you enjoy when the music is gone too, don't want to overdo it. Plus it's nice to share the sounds of nature.
I loved the video! Just found your channel and instantly subscribed. I love how you make your videos both educational and fun to watch. Cant't wait for future content :). Oh and btw, I live on an island 🌝🌝 just keep that in mind if you visit Finland again and need a place to stay. c:
This is such a great travelling vlog channel, thank you so much for this great content. You have a new subscriber, trains + great destinations = amazing. 😉 Just wanted to ask too, what is the music you use at 2:43? Thank you. 🙂
Amsterdam is lovely in the fall! Definitely my favorite season :) When are you guys coming? I live in the Netherlands, so let me know if you'd like tips!
It was kind of funny you said Suomenlinna was built by the Swedes and later Finns got it... because Finns at that time were also Swedes. Finland was one of the 4 core parts (Götaland, Svealand, Norrland and Finland) of Sweden. If you go back to that era, saying someone was from Sweden or Swedish, that someone could as well have been a Finn too.
This was a very well composed video of Helsinki. Polite, friendly, and to the point. Video quality and editing is good too. Proper amateur travelling-channel =) Obviously this only covers a small portion of Finland and it´s life and culture etc. But yeah, nice job =)
nice for your two, always tour and traveling, later come to indonesian, very nice destinasion at here. we are country archipelago big in the world. thanks
9:33 You actually can’t stay at that island. It’s a military base even though it does look like only a forest. Edit: actually i made a mistake. That island was opened to the public a few months ago.
You were really lucky with the weather, its been exceptionally warm in Helsinki this September. As you said the island has a prison, an "open prison" actually, kind of Finnish thing. These inmates serve time but they are free to work or study during daytime. You probably met some of them with out noticing that :)
The open prison is the last step of a sentence, a gradual reintroduction into normal life, for the suitable inmates. Finland has one of the lowest rates of imprisonment in Europe, the thinking goes locking people up "for the rest of their lives" doesn't help to reduce crime.
You should have came to Kimitoön/Kemiönsaari! It's a municipal in the archipelago outside of Turku and have a lot of touristy things and off course really beautiful 😊
Fun fact. The prison in Suomenlinna in actually an open prison for 100 inmates. Many of the groundkeepers there are actually inmates serving their time.
Hey Americans! Come to Finland and enjoy the nature and at the same time play disc golf on really enjoyable disc golf courses all around the country! Check it out!
Love your videos and everything, but this week i tried airbnb for the first time but i did have a terrible experience, tho i checked the host reviews and had a good reviews. But once i got studio internet and cable were not working for one day and i didnt have hot water. As my first airbnb experience i must say it was a bad experience. Not to mention that my father was somewhat upset.
Aww that sucks! If we ever have questions, we just ask through the app and the host usually gets back to us quickly. I'm sorry you had a poor experience. Every host/place is different.
WΔY ΔWΔY yeah i did ask the host before booking if everything was working like internet and water etc.. But i guess is also luck. Internet very unpredictable sometimes.
Made a proposal to my wife here. Such a magic place. Hope we will be able to come to this place with our children.
I was in Suomenlinna in 1998 and loved it - I have been to Helsinki 12 times and always LOVED IT!!
Thank you for showing my beloved hometown respectfully and classy. I love my country and Helsinki ❤️
😊 Thanks for having such a beautiful hometown! We love it there and want to come back soon.
Indeed, you live in a beautiful country. I like its landscapes with a lot of forests and lakes. Finland is very different of France of course. Keep safe !
Finland is Best Land ! Greeting from Türkiye my Uralic-Altaic brothers...
O! Yar! What a country! What a great people! What a filming team. Bravo!!!
🤗 glad you enjoyed
Love the fact that you can get there by public transportation! Great Island (:
+Chief Niki yeah and there's only like 4 hours a day that the ferry doesn't run!
Exactly, it's one of those rare cheap tricks in Scandinavia :D
12h ticket for the ferries costs 5 €. For 12h period you can run the ferry as many times as you want. All HSL tickets are also valid on the ferries, too. For more info: www.hsl.fi/en/tickets-and-fares/suomenlinna-ticket

+Always Forever Curious thank you! What a prestigious honor! 🤗 I'm glad you still enjoy after all this time.
I was going back through some of your older videos and just found this one on Suomenlinna. Now I want to go to Finland! It looks beautiful! Josh's video skills are amazing. And, Ashley, your excitement is so cute!
Aww thank you! We hope to go back this year too!
I spent a whole day in July in sunny skies on the island. It truly is one paradise on earth. Cannot wait to return and spend more time soaking in Helsinki
+Bonnie From Washington state I can only imagine! It must have been beautiful! We've heard that winter time is also amazing.
going up the hill and looking down on the sea is what I remember most - I LOVE FINLAND!! Last time I was in Helsinki was in the fall of 2000
I have to admit, that I love living on Suomenlinna. You people have no idea how magical this place is. You have just scratch the surface. Welcome again :-)
We will be there in June! We can’t wait 😊
I've been in Kuala Lumpur for past 3 weeks for work and you are making me so homesick. I really yearn for that serenity around there.
I feel you. Finland has a peace about it. Even in the city it never felt hectic.

How cool!! Its such a special place. -Ash
I know of a good cartoon that I enjoyed when I was a little boy that came from Finland, the Moomins.

+troyperez76 you are welcome! Glad you enjoyed.

That fortress is gorgeous!!
Josh is correct, an archipelago is a group of islands. Ashley's enthusiasm is adorable, I'm English but it's sometimes hard for me to understand when she's speaking fast :-)
Haha, I know! She gets excitable and the decibels rise, and the tone rises and it becomes one big long squeal!
....lek..mar-k casw-el l ==stallix
It is funny how stoked you are about Suomenlinna. :)
Looks natural and clearn!
I'm glad you enjoyed Helsinki! I actually proposed to my girlfriend (now wife) in Suomenlinna a year ago, right around the spot you were at 4:25 - 4:40 in this video. It really is a beautiful island.
I was there many years ago in May. Beware, it was extremely warm in Helsinki, but I was frozen by the time I got to the fortress. Wear a coat, lol.
Suomenlinna is really one of my favorite places. Me and my wife are having our wedding there next fall 😇
I love your videos! Especially when you give little facts to viewers! Its amazing!

8:56 I saw that same balloon that red one it says CRAMO and I saw it like in August, 2019 not 2017. Or at least it looked similar
I want to come to Helsinki so badly
I loved the video! Just found your channel and instantly subscribed. I love how you make your videos both educational and fun to watch. Cant't wait for future content :). Oh and btw, I live on an island 🌝🌝 just keep that in mind if you visit Finland again and need a place to stay. c:

Aurinkohirvi and when suomenlinna was finished it was the second strongest fortress in the world, just after gibraltar
It was not Finland then.. it was Östland or eastland
Very nice video
This was a very well composed video of Helsinki. Polite, friendly, and to the point. Video quality and editing is good too. Proper amateur travelling-channel =)
Obviously this only covers a small portion of Finland and it´s life and culture etc. But yeah, nice job =)

*Nice Jacket Josh 👍😉 and Ash you look gorgeous 👑😍 in new glasses* 👓
Thank you! H&M comes in handy sometimes for new outfits! Haha.
In Finland, there are no "dead ends" in old castles or fortressess, so you saw something.
There is hostel in Suomenlinna and it’s actually really reasonably priced compared to hotels in Helsinki.
I think Ashley channeled Sheree in that video! I laughed so hard!!
+Susan Welter 😚 haha. Yeeep that's about right.
Ive been to suomenlinna its amazing but there is so many bees
9:33 You actually can’t stay at that island. It’s a military base even though it does look like only a forest. Edit: actually i made a mistake. That island was opened to the public a few months ago.
Top !!!
THanks Giovanna!

These inmates serve time but they are free to work or study during daytime. You probably met some of them with out noticing that :)
+mikrokupu yeah the weather was perfect!! And I had heard about this open prison concept, would love to learn more.
It's a municipal in the archipelago outside of Turku and have a lot of touristy things and off course really beautiful 😊
this place is so beautiful because its no airbnb around.
There are 4 just on Suomenlinna island
I love how positive you guys are. Truly magical looking place, like out of Game of Thrones or something
Trakai Castle not far from Vilnius, Hill of Crosses-mysterious place -must see places in Lithuania.
Fun fact. The prison in Suomenlinna in actually an open prison for 100 inmates. Many of the groundkeepers there are actually inmates serving their time.
Amazing, the most important Place, The Suomenlinna Church is not in this film, sad but maybe these people were in a hurry, yes i think so.
Nice fun couple
Suomi is very nice. Mina rakastan Suomi. I knew Helsinki, Turku and Karjaa.
Hugs from Brazil
Respect from Morocco ❤❤
