Came here for the Nikon video. Stayed for the very insightful perspective about the different ecosystems. You have a great calming presence and it's a nice change. It's almost like ASMR lol.

  • @annarakannan6620

That Leica autofocus sucks bad. But got to love the Leica hype. But you are spot on with the Nikon strategy. I never thought I would see myself holding a Nikon in my hand. Thanks to social media. Guess what, that’s right. I did it. Thanks to social media.😀😀

  • @noenken

The reason they released the ZF before the Z6III is the Z8. Nikon can't afford to outcompete one of their flagship products that soon after it's release. With the ZF being a completely different style of camera it is a lot less likely to cannibalize Z8 sales.

  • @Carthodon

You are going to be a successful RUclipsr. What I appreciate about your analysis is how honest and self aware it is. Few people would admit the degree to which hype on RUclips influences their decisions, most pretend it's rational, and as a result of that honesty you gave an original take on the zf. Incidentally I was looking to decide which system I was going to go into, and the Nikon zf is the reason I decided to go with Nikon. Keep doing a good job, only criticism id make is put more effort into the editing (specifically audio).

Thank you for this video! I agree with your analysis and share the same sentiment on how social media easily influences us especially when it comes to our gear purchases.

  • @JMSobrevilla

Good unboxing video! Curious about how you prepare your Leica Q3 for a talking head video. Would you consider showing that?

If this was just a z6 iii there would not be so many people picking this up. The ZF is a unique camera with the excitement behind its uniqueness. I shoot street I will be picking up the 26mm, 28mm, 40mm and several manual lenses with aperture control on the lens.

  • @ForrestMankins

Great video and intelligent thoughts. Thanks for making it.

  • @SlickNic

Great video - I share a similar sentiment regarding the design and the timing of the release. Nikon has such a rich history in their f line up of film camera's and tapping into the FM2 as a design language was a great idea. I often see Nikon F3, FA, FE, F2, FM etc cameras in the film community being held in high regard. Additionally, in this retro design full-frame market, its really only Leica who is doing it with fuji offering only the APSC or Medium Format. For me, Leica is a large jump in commitment, and would require me to sell gear to move into it, where as the Nikon ZF allows me to stay with my other fuji cameras, but also use some of my older film camera lenses and retain the same focal length.

  • @pancakelens75

If only Nikon would have partnered with Kodak and had the option of JPG film simulations, these would have sold out already

  • @gregcorker2193

Thoughtful and considered meditation on Nikon’s approach to the Zf. Though I would not have thought the Zf would be the best “next release”, Nikon’s marketing savvy appears to be “on target”. I wish Nikon (and yourself) well.

Your analysis is perspicacious and original. I noticed that most of the commenters here are also insightful and have posted comments worth reading. You seem to have attracted the discerning RUclips content watcher. Kudos. Just subbed.

Interesting and thought provoking. I’m still trying to decide whether to keep my Zf or go back to the XT5. Or wait till something ticks all the boxes. Screen like x-t5, user profiles, full frame. Tactile and retro. Happy with Nikon AF, better than Fuji.

  • @cditfurth

    Danke! Schönes Video.

Great video dude, really excited to get mine in after watching this! Will you be releasing a hands-on video once the camera is charged?

  • @mangopatch1872

Thanks for this nice video! Personally, Nikon's choice to release the Zf before the Z6 3 was great timing, as I was about to jump ship to Fujifilm, whose X70 I've been greatly enjoying. The Zf, which I am getting for the retro design as well as the surprisingly generous specs, will be my gateway to the Z system and what keeps me in the Nikon fold. Good move, Nikon!

  • @hdoan7167

Nice video, was looking at Nikon ZF/mirrorless, the plastic lens mount on a lot of the new Nikon lenses is a real disappointment, so I went and purchased a minty used D850 for a fraction of the price of the ZF instead, and the old f mount lenses can be excellent and good value. Mostly stills, so still happy with using a dslr :)

  • @ScottHuffman142

I caved and ordered one. I am a current Fuji user--currently have the X-T4 and XH2. I plan to replace my X-T4 with the Nikon Zf and sell the X-T4.

  • @strippedlist

Hear my voice: ZfR next year

  • @niclightfoot4329

Just to let you know, Nikon started their homage back to their FM and FE range of cameras (begun in 1977 & 1978 respectively) in 2013 when they released the Nikon Df. This was also a full frame camera, but it had only an optical viewfinder and no video support. It's a great camera an I still use mine today, but I now prefer both my Nikon Zfc and Zf, both of which are smaller and more functional. But it began 10 years ago with the Df.
